New South District and its Connection to Svratka
Bařinová, Anna ; Hybská, Bohumila (referee) ; Sedláček, Michal (advisor)
Despite a few decades of discussion and the existence of all the studies on the transfer of the Brno Main Station to the river and the subsequent construction of the new Trnitá district, it has not been decided on the exact architectural form of these major urban interventions. In my pre-diploma thesis, I worked out an urban study of a new southern district - Trnitá, which gave above all a functional and mass form of the territory. This location will be extremely interesting for both the city's visitors, who will be moving from the station to the center, and of course for the potential new residents of the district. The district offers a unique combination of city life and recreation in the immediate vicinity of the natural river and park features. For a more detailed elaboration, I chose a building within a walk-through block by a river consisting of two buildings. My goal was to create a new scenery for what's happening in the neighborhood, to design new scenarios for how we can look at blocks. Given the contact with the waterfront and the river, I decided to propose both private and public functions. An important role is played by the courtyard, which defines a private space (a raised platform intended only for the residents of the house) and a public space - a creative center courtyard using a raised part as a residence bench. The mass of the house is horizontally divided into two parts. The first and second floors belong to the creative center, which is transparent with distinctive stone columns. An important goal was to show the life and movement of the center and its openness to new people and ideas - access from the yard. From the third floor there are apartments that are terraced and offer views of the river and roof terraces of deluxe apartments.

The assignment of the diploma thesis follows the pre-diploma project of an urbanistic design - New South District and its Connection to Svratka. The subject of the thesis is a design of the apartment building on the riverside of Svratka. The thesis has a form of architectonic study. The architectural design is interconnected with surrounding built-up area and preserves the existing height level. It also respects the definened riverside. The construction has a shape of the letter "U" opening towards the river. The shift of the north "wing" of the building creats widened "inner block". It offers diverse views on the river and accentuates an "incorporation" of the river to inner block. The residential building has six floors and two underground parking floors. It is devided into 7 units with separate entrances. The proposed part of the building is located directly on the riverbank. It includes 16 housing units and one leasable space.

Brno has been considering moving the Main railway station for several decades. Countless urban plans have been done through several competitions, the new South District, which will be located north direction of today's Dolní nádraží station in the future. The architectural study, which was the subject of this diploma thesis, designs multifunctional object called Platform. The building could become part of the emerging South District. The base for the architectural study of the Platform was urban concept of South District designed by me as a pre-diploma thesis. The significance of the South District is comparable to the new Main Railway Station in Vienna surrounded by new district. Those opportunities were the foundation for designing compact urban structure with great variability of public spaces and buildings themselves. The new building is located on the Route of experiences, which is an alternative lane to the main boulevard from the Main Station to the centre of Brno. That starts at the railway station, leads through South District and its main square, the waterfront, through the islands of Svratka, to the park next to the river. Lane continues to the rediscovered railway viaduct and further to today's Main railway station. The viaduct was an inspiration for the architectural design, in the sense of material and shape. The mass of the building itself is divided horizontally into two parts. The lower, heavy masonry brick part of the market is visually separated from the upper objects that seem to levitate above the market. These three upper masses grow from the green roof of the market. Their function is already evident due to their facades. Upper part belongs to the two apartment buildings with a regular grid of south-west orientated windows and one coworking facility located in the northern corner of the Platform. The location of the building is significant. The views from the Platform are amazing - one side there is the Svratka River with island

Architectual study deals with the design of an apartment building in the new south district in Brno – area the south from the existing main station. Living close to the Svratka river and concurrently near historic centre are the greatest potentials of the territory. Another similar place does not exist anywhere in Brno. The project follows plans of building a new main station of the city. This includes extensive transport infrastructure. The new district is connected to the Brno boulevard and also to „highline“ park on the historic viaduct. The area was not built till today, although it is really attractive and unusual place in the city. The main reason is flood area located here. Nowadays a city administration is preparing a new zoning plan, which suggests many flood control measures. In my thesis I am interested in one block of buildings from the new district, which is situated close to the river. One of these apartment buildings is designed in more detail. This is the coner object located near the square. The house is composed of eight floors – two underground and six upper floors. Garages are located underground. Entrance area for residents, technical background and some home-office units are planed on the first storey. The part of the first floor is rentable – coner space for cafe or bar. Upper floors have only resident function. Varied flats are two-rooms to five-rooms. A part of proposal is also outdoor spaces. They are very significant for really beautiful views to the waterfront, the river and adjancent park. All housing units have loggia, balcony or terrace. Home-office units on the first floor are completed with private gadens in the courtyard. Roof apartments are favored for theirs private roof gardens. But a part of roof green terraces is available for all residents of the house.

The Master‘s thesis deals with the processing of the architectural study of the city block in the planned new South Quarter near the Svratka River. The project builds on a pre-diploma project whose aim was to create a territorial urban study for part of this neighbourhood. It was a section between the New Railway Station, Opuštěná Street and the existing Zvonařka Bus Station following the river embankment. The subject of the master‘s thesis is a block from this newly designed urban structure, situated in very close proximity to the river. he project focuses on the block as a whole. It conceptually solves the links between newly designed buildings, individual operations, and functions. It deals with the relationship between streets, river and buildings. Great attention is paid to the maximum use of greenery in the form of extensive and intensive roofs, internal blocks, private gardens in the inner block, as well as private front gardens. The concept seeks to provide a wide range of options and differences. This creates a closed city block that is open and responding to the river with its shape, that consists of free parts. The first / majority are the street lining. It is mostly 5-storey. Corner buildings are raised by one floor, allowing roof intensive gardens to be created. It includes a diverse range of residential units overlooking the river. Housing prevails here. On the ground floor there are a few commercial units and work-and-live. The work-and-live area also includes a private front yard on the street and private raised gardens in the interior. The second part consists of two objects extended over the pedestrian shopping promenade. One of the objects was subject of my detailed architectural study. There are the most luxurious apartments, ground floor showroom and concept store. The third part consists of a lowered 2-storey embankment building, which by its height provides the rest of the block with a beautiful, unimpeded view of the river. It covers the

Brno will continue to be the city and the centre of the fairs. The historical part around the pavilion A is opened to public and the fairs are concentrated around the pavilion Z, where a new city entrance is planned within a linear park, also a new pavilion and a superstructure with residence of BVV is planned. Newly, the terminal Lipová is designed with the cableway station, which is not only an attraction over the valley of Pisárky, but also represents a form of transport to the campus Bohunice and back to the trade fair center. The design of an exhibition pavilion is situated in a part of Brno-Pisárky, in western area of BVV. The Pavilion contains an exhibition hall and an entrance edifice on a new axis directed from an Anthropos over an superstructure on a significant pavilion Z. The entrance edifice in a central of pavilion is surrounded by exhibition area and its centre is plaza with natural woody plants and colonnade. Entries are leaded on galleries on this level. Galleries are opened into the exhibition hall. A restaurant has a specific view on the dominant-pavilion Z. A visitor goes through the plaza and descends on monumental stairs to the pavilion Z into area of BVV in a primary direction. The visitor descents from the plaza over each galleries to the exhibiton area in a secondary direction. The proposal offers to the visitors and exhibitors not only gathering outdoor relaxation area on the plaza, but moreover interesting experiences from galleries. The total built area of the pavilion is almost equal to the exhibition area, because the design creates the entry level on the third floor. The new building meets the requirements of modern exhibitions and will be used for social and educational events - balls, weddings, conferences, cultural events - concerts, theater, opera performances and sports events. The Pavilion will be visited by inhabitents of all ages not only from Brno, from near and distant surroundings, but also by visitors from abroad.

The theme of my diploma thesis is reconstruction of old exhibition hall “B” of BVV Trade Fairs Brno which is located at Křižkovského street near BVV gate no. 4. The exhibition hall is converted to multifunctional sports hall. This function is result of complex urban analysis, which was theme of winter semester thesis of the academic year 2017/2018. The exhibition hall gets a new curtain wall facade. Curtain wall sustains of steel construction and semi-transparent polycarbonate panels. The study converts rooms according to new usage of the hall. There are smaller halls for indoor sports, dividable central hall, tribunes, bars, locker rooms, roof wellness and outdoor multifunctional playgrounds at the roof of the hall. The study takes advantage of uncommon technical solutions of the hall. For example bridge crane which is newly used as carrying construction for LED multimedia cube.

The diploma thesis follows the urban planning analysis of the BVV area, which was elaborated in the subject TG02 –Specializovanýateliér. The Diploma Project processes an architectural study of the hotel with a congress center. The request for the proposal was the classification of the building into First Class (**** hotel) according to the Official Uniform Classification of Accommodation Facilities of the Czech Republic, as well as the number of rooms 250. The congressional part should serve more than 2,000 persons. The design responds to the historical urbanism of the BVV area, where it retains and optically complements the view axis to the Z-pavilion. The building also reacts to the height next to the standing mansion. In its close proximity is the lower part of the building with the congress center, the height part with rooms is located on the opposite side, at the sports hall. The object is optically divided into two parts - a lower base and a "growing" height part with room. The congress and the hotel part are optically separated by planing offsets and façade solutions. Lower, congress, part orbit horizontal aluminum lamellas, instead, the hotel creates vertical lamellas. These lamellas serve not only as optical separation but also as shading.
