Citizens on U.S. Anti-Missile Radar Base in Czech Republic - March 2009

According to March survey of CVVM SOÚ AV ČR 68 % of Czech citizens did not agree with planned deployment of U.S. anti-missile radar in Czech Republic, on the other hand 26 % of respondents would approve it. 70 % of respondents expressed their opinion that this question should be decided in a referendum, 23 % of Czechs disagreed with holding a plebiscite in this matter.

Taxation in View of Public Opinion

According to February 2009 survey 8 % of citizens regard taxation on high-income earners as high, 18 % say it is adequate and 62 % think it is low. Taxation on average-income earners is considered to be high by 38 % of respondents, adequate by 49 % and low by 3 % of citizens. Taxation on low-income earners was supposed to be high by 68 %, adequate by 19 % and low by 3 %. 72 % of respondents think that tax rate should be higher for high-income earners than for low-income earners.

Nato in View of Czech Public

According to January survey 65 % of Czechs see existence of Nato as necessary today, only 14 % think that Nato is useless. 60 % of Czechs evaluate recent expansion of Nato in region of Eastern and South-eastern Europe as good, 19 % see this step as bad. But contrary to this attitude, Czech public rather oppose incorporation of Ukraine (34 % yes, 39 % no) and Georgia (28 % yes, 43 % no) into Nato.

According to January survey of CVVM SOÚ AV ČR 65 % of Czech citizens did not agree with planned deployment of U.S. anti-missile radar in Czech Republic, on the other hand 29 % of respondents would approve it. 72 % respondents expressed their opinion that this question should be decided in a referendum, 23 % of Czechs disagreed with holding a plebiscite in this matter. Majority of Czechs (67 %) expects that Czech parliament will pass the agreements on radar. 77 % of Czechs fear that the U.S. radar base in Czech Republic can become a target of military attack, 67 % are afraid of terrorist attack against it.

World Financial Crisis In View Of Czech Public

According to December survey 58 % of Czechs are concerned with the situation regarding present world financial crisis, 41 % do not care about it. 78 % expect negative impact of crisis to economic development in the Czech Republic. 40 % see the reaction of Czech government to present situation as bad, 28 % expressed opposite meaning. 61 % would support state’s financial bailout to firms in danger of breakdown caused by crisis.

According to December survey of CVVM SOÚ AV ČR 65 % of Czech citizens did not agree with planned deployment of U.S. anti-missile radar in Czech Republic, on the other hand 28 % of respondents would approve it. 70 % respondents expressed their opinion that this question should be decided in a referendum, 22 % of Czechs disagreed with holding a plebiscite in this matter. People who are against the referendum are for the most part supporters of idea to locate the U.S. anti-missile radar in Czech Republic. Majority of Czechs (69 %) expects that Czech parliament will pass the agreements on radar. 39 % of Czech citizens think that Barack Obama will continue with the project of deployment of U.S. anti-missile radar in Czech Republic continuously, 29 % expect some postponement and re-evaluation of the plan from new U.S. administration and 5 % think that Barack Obama will not have an interest to continue with deployment of U.S. anti-missile defence system in Europe and will freeze the plan to build the radar base in Czech republic.

Czechs on U.S. Presidential Election

Almost three fifths of Czech citizens (58 %) were at least partly interested in American presidential election. 53 % of Czechs were satisfied with its outcome, 33 % expressed an indifferent position that they are "neither satisfied nor dissatisfied" and only 4 % said out their dissatisfaction with Barack Obama's victory.

People who are against the referendum are for the most part supporters of idea to locate the U.S. anti-missile radar in Czech Republic.
