The Doctrine of Antichrist and the Coming of Christ at the Beginning of the Unity of Brethren and its Roots in the Czech Reformation
Müllerová, Anna ; Veverková, Kamila (advisor) ; Lášek, Jan Blahoslav (referee)
This thesis provides a balanced overview of the active ideological currents in the late Middle Ages in the Czech lands concerning the doctrine of the Antichrist and the second coming of Christ. It not only deals with the religious situation during that period, but also emphasises the political, cultural and social circumstances. The text is divided into seven parts that discuss the apocalyptic sentiment and the eschatological visions prevalent in society in that period. Presented in it are the principal ideas of such prominent reformist scholars and thinkers as Jan Milíč of Kroměříž, Master Jan Hus, Jan Rokycan and Petr Chelčický. The text charts the teachings of these men, as they followed one another, concerning the issues of the concept of the Antichrist and the coming of Christ up to the period of the Hussite revolutionary movement and even later, during the early days of the Unity of Brethren. Special attention is also given to the spiritual circumstances involved in the founding of the Unity of Brethren; there the roots of its founding and its beginnings and its distinctive features are documented in the thesis. Emphasis is also placed on the importance of the reformist and the Hussite struggle for its creation. The familiar interpretations of the doctrine of the Antichrist and the coming of Christ...
Charitable and social activities of The Military and Hospitaller Order of Saint Lazarus of Jerusalem
Trnčák, Erik ; Veverková, Kamila (advisor) ; Lášek, Jan Blahoslav (referee)
SUMMARY: The Charitable And Social Activities Of The Military and Hospitaller Order of Saint Lazarus of Jerusalem. Erik Trnčák The current form of the Order's knights is logically different than their brothers's one in The Middle Ages. They do not use sheilds and swords anymore, or even dress in armor for fight, but their spirituality has not changed during nine hundred years of the Order's duration. One of the knight's virtues has always been guarding the weak and helpless. The main purpose of the knights of the saint Lazarus Order has always been helping and guarding those who are already on death's border, even if it meant being in great danger of contracting the infection. In the Middle Ages, the main enemy of saint Lazarus knights was the life-threatening disease of leprosy, which almost never occurs in Europe to this day. The Military and Hospitaller Order of Saint Lazarus of Jerusalem still supports leprosariums and hospitals in developing countries, by providing them with necessary material and financial help. The Order also sent specialists to help the places that were affected by catastrophes. Nowadays, the Lazarians's main enemy is cancer, which consumes millions of human lives every year all around the world. The Order's activities are primarily focused on the support of Hospitaller care and...

Langer, Marketa ; Veverková, Kamila (advisor) ; Kučera, Zdeněk (referee) ; Weis, Martin (referee)
ThDr. Marketa Langer Praha, 2018 THE THEOLOGICAL LEGACY OF CZECH MODERNISM IN THE LIFE AND WORK OF FRANTIŠEK BÍLEK ABSTRACT This thesis looks at the life and work of the artist Frantisek B lek in relation to the theological legacy of Czech Catholic modernism at the end of the nineteenth and early twentieth century over three chapters. Its objective is to answer three questions: Was the artist the mystic he was perceived to be at the time? Can he be termed a modernist? What were his reasons for joining the Czechoslovak Church when it was founded in 1920? The study uses the method of hypotheses which are stated in advance in the questions posed, and then subsequently tested. Another method used is an analysis and comparison of the approach and attitudes of Czech society to the artist during his life. The introductory chapter describes the study's key indicators with a brief description of the issues, and also the form and structure used. Part A looks at the environment during the emergence of modern Europe; in particular the conditions giving rise to the struggle for modernism, the circumstances of the First Vatican Council, the Czech Catholic reform movement and the European modernism movement in relation to the central subject of this thesis, artist Frantisek B lek. Each of the three chapters looks at one...
SOCIETY AND THE CHURCH IN THE FORMER WESTERN ROMAN EMPIRE IN THE 5TH TO THE 7TH CENTURY
Jaroš, Josef ; Veverková, Kamila (advisor)
The thesis titled "Society and Church within the Territory of the Former Western Roman Empire in the 5th to 7th century AD" focuses on relations between the society and the church, specifically within territories which, at the given period, formed the Western Roman Empire (5th century AD) and its successor states (6th to 7th century AD). The given period was chosen as it marked a turning point in the relations between the state, or the society, and the church; the further development in Europe, not limited to religion, stems from this period. The 5th century represents a sort of a prologue to the dramatic and turbulent 6th century, while the 7th century is an afterpiece during which the details of the further direction and development of the Catholic Church were refined. The aim of my thesis was to confirm or disconfirm the hypotheses that Christianity (the church) did not accelerate the fall of the Western Roman Empire or that it did not significantly contribute to it, that it was not a bearer of progress as it did not improve the general conditions, and that the church had the character of any religion serving power and was not unique in any way at the time. Attention is paid initially to political and economic situation, which is followed by the study of the relationships between the church and the...
Komensky in the Light of the Life, the Epoch, Chiliasm, and Prophetic Hopes
Gmuzdková, Silvie ; Veverková, Kamila (advisor) ; Lášek, Jan Blahoslav (referee)
Dissonance in the manifestations of Comenius geniality - the creation of the Pansophistic program, faith in the Scriptura sacra, the belief in the prophecy of contemporary visionaries - is only apparent. The light of God's presence at any moment and eschatological expectations brings him to the feeling of necessity to revise human knowledge and start the formation of "Emendative concept". The close connection between Comenius's life deal, rational systems and irrational promotion of contemporary prophecy could be clarified by chiliasm. Faith in the Scriptura sacra played a cardinal role in his gnoseological approach to the World. Interest in didactics, philosophy, mechanics, music and theology intertwined throughout all his life, as the life of the last bishop of the Unity of the Brethren. Comenius as an agitator for "All-Emendative concept", was interesting into interpretation and into improvement the World especially, as the these Komensky in the Light of the Life, the Epoch, Chiliasm, and Prophetic Hopes attempt to show.
Congregation of Sisters of Mercy of St. Boromeo and the Situation in 19th, 20 th and 21th Century
Bartošová - Bártová, Marcela ; Veverková, Kamila (advisor) ; Dolista, Josef (referee)
1 Kongregace Milosrdných sester sv. Karla Boromejského na pozadí událostí 19., 20. a 21. století Congregation of Sisters of Mercy of St. Boromeo and the Situation in 19th, 20 th and 21th Century Marcela Batrošová - Bártová This introductory chapter is expected to depict the basic information on which this thesis has been written and its main objective. The impetus of this work has been two reasons. Partly, I had done a similar topic during my bachelor's level where I had addressed the inception and development of the congregation of sisters of mercy of the St. Charles of Baromeo in Bohemia. It was from this work, that I got the motivation to extend the study by trying to further explore on the biographical background of four main leaders of this congregation. I look at their activities from different historical phases in Bohemia. This method of literature review from the archive of the congregation I considered as "untouched field". It was a great challenge that I wouldn't let go. This work in its context could not however, capture the whole scene in detail. Therefore the historical episodes to relevant leaders of this congregation are only a summarized view of important events of the period experienced by the relevant personality. The whole work is divided into four chapters. The first chapter looks into...
