Relationship between nonverbal and verbal communication in communication of teachers of Czech as a foreign language

76 Abstract The thesis deals with the relationship between verbal and nonverbal communication in the speeches of Czech as a foreign language teachers, with an emphasis on nonverbal means, especially gestures and facial expressions. The analysis focuses on the verbal and nonverbal means by which teachers fulfill selected communication/pedagogical intentions and implement activities such as interpreting the material, practicing, instructing students or providing feedback, and the relationship between different types of means in different communication situations. The basic material of the analysis are video recordings of the teachers' speech in the teaching of Czech as a foreign language for adults obtained during the internships of students in the field of Teaching Czech as a Foreign Language. The results of the analysis confirmed that the teachers use deictic, illustrative and also symbolic gestures in selected recordings. Verbal morphological categories in Czech language textbooks

The diploma thesis focuses on the rendition of verbal morphological categories in selected Czech language textbooks for primary and secondary schools. The aim of the thesis is (1) to analyse the area of morphological categories of verbs in respective textbooks, (2) to find out how this area is didactically transformed in relation to specialized and theoretical approach and (3) to assess whether the content is approached appropriately with respect to the subject correctness. The first part of the thesis summarizes the existing theoretical knowledge of pedagogical research of textbooks with the support of selected empirical studies. The second part introduces verbal morphological categories by presenting specialized concepts in several grammars and manuals of Czech linguistics. The third part contains the research itself: using the method of qualitative content analysis, it observes the transfer of educational content with regard to the specialized interpretations of the relevant area defined in the second part. The Degree of Time Expressions Accuracy in the Texts of Non-native speakers of Czech in the learner corpus Merlin

1 Abstract : The Master's thesis aims to describe the method and specifics of expressing the degrese of accuracy of time expressions in the written works of non-native speakers of Czech. The diploma thesis focuses on the general description of the expression of tempoval quantification by non-native speakers of Czech in written texts. Based on specialized resources, the graduate defines time indicators, in the next step she analyzes the most frequently used text book series entitled Czech for foreigners - Czech step by step by L. Holá, in which she monitors the presentation of time expressions, both grammatically and lexically, in terms of the range of indicators with regard to the level of language acquisition, but also in terms of the way of presentation of the indicators. In the following part, ananalysis of the occurrence of time indicators in the Merlin students' corpus is performed. The scope of use of time indicator is monitored with regard to the language skill level according to SERR, the degree of accuracy of the indication of time quantification, and the error typology of time means. Reception of selected vocabulary in pupils of first five grades of primary schools (Based on the material of Zprávičky)

The diploma thesis deals with comprehension of selected vocabulary in children of younger school age. In the introduction it presents basic characteristics of children in this developmental stage. It also analyses what place the cross-sectional topic of Media Education has in current educational programs of elementary schools and in the children's families. As the researched lexicon was selected from the children's news program od Czech Television Zprávičky, the thesis also focuses on the news genre and the characteristics of the program Zprávičky, especially on the language of the program and the way it is adapted to the audience of children. The research part is based on a qualitative analysis of individual interviews with children and focuses on finding out how pupils of first and fifth grade of elementary school understand the lexicon selected from two broadcasts of the program Zprávičky. The aim of the research is to verify whether children fully understand the selected vocabulary and to find out whether the tested words are part of the active or passive vocabulary of children. The examination in the Czech language for permanent residence in the Czech republic

This thesis deals with the examination in the Czech language for permanent residence in the Czech Republic. The aim is to identify its basic characteristics, the success rate of the participants and whether it corresponds to the required A1 level. In the theoretical part, basic theoretical concepts of migration and integration and conditions for granting permanent residence in different countries are presented. In the practical part, the analysis itself is elaborated. It consists mainly in the comparison of the exam with the publication Referenční popis češtiny pro účely zkoušky z českého jazyka pro trvalý pobyt v ČR - úrovně A1, A2 and evaluation of its integration potential. Included in the considerations are data on average results and success rates of candidates in the period January 24, 2018 - April 24, 2019. From a didactic point of view, the thesis also deals with the available preparatory materials: a handbook Připravte se s námi na zkoušku z českého jazyka pro trvalý pobyt v ČR. Obsolescent and obsolete words and historicisms in the teaching of CLL in lower grades of eight-year grammar school (case study)

In this work we deal with the position of obsolescent words, obsolete words and historicisms in the teaching of the Czech language and literature at the lower level of a one-year grammar school. We focus on layers of vocabulary, especially on the layer of time-tagged words, we explain the terms obsolescent word, obsolete word, archaism and historicisms in the theoretical part. We also focus on the reading comprehension process. We describe the ways in which readers deduce the meaning of unknown words. We analyse the system of curricular documents, textbooks and readers used at the lower grades of eight-year grammar school by the method of detailed reading in the practical part. Based on the results of the questionnaire survey, we also analyse the knowledge of pupils, their attitude to these words and the influence of the occurrence of these words on their reading and understanding.
Media education in the teaching of Czech language at secondary schools

This diploma thesis deals with the involvement of the cross-curricular theme of media education in the Czech language teaching. The first part defines the basic concepts of media literacy and media education and describes their development and concepts in education. It also deals with the form of media education in curricular documents, especially in the framework educational programme, and the characteristics of the thematic areas of the cross-curricular theme of media education involved in this document. Subsequently, it deals with the possibilities of media education realization and with the use of textbooks and other methodological and teaching materials and projects. In the second part of the thesis, the school education programmes of three selected grammar schools are analysed, on the basis of data obtained by own qualitative research, by answers of respondents from semi-structured interviews and by specific teaching situations. The aim of the research part is to provide information on the implementation of media education and on the state of the relevant cross-curricular topic integration into teaching at selected grammar schools. The focus of concern is also whether the topics defined in the Framework Educational Programme for Grammar Schools are fulfilled in media education.
Communicative Strategies in You Tube Broadcasting (with Respect to Adolescent Viewers)

This bachelor's thesis deals with communication strategies in original Czech videos on YouTube. The aim of this thesis is to analyse means of language and language procedures used in communication especially for influencing. The aim is also to identify fields which are targeted by the influence. The correlation of communication strategies in the given area and reflection of them by a group of adolescents from 11 to 18 years of age is part of this research. A transcript of the introduction and conclusions of seven selected videos was prepared for the analysis of communication strategies. Reflection of researched group is obtained by a semi- structured questionnaire. Its results are discussed with the results of video analysis. Our research has discovered that means of language and language procedures are selected to develop the YouTube community. This is usually positively reflected by studied group. The main contribution of this work is a basic insight into the issue of influencing adolescents by original YouTube videos. Based on the results, other topics suitable for more detailed research are suggested.
Didactic utilization of advertisement videos in Czech foreign language teaching

The subject of the diploma thesis Didactic utilization of advertisement videos in Czech foreign language teaching is to point out the low integration of commercial audiovisual material into the language teaching. Fundamental principles and processes of communicative approach are presented in the theoretical part. The thesis then follows up with the role of video in the choice of proper audiovisual material. Concrete activities for video inclusion in learning are proposed. Advertisement texts are defined next, space is also given to the advertisement itself and guidelines for creating learning materials. The practical part is dedicated to analyse content of current textbooks of Czech language for foreigners which shows the work with video, respectively advertisement videos. Consequently, four lessons for language levels A1, A2, B1, B2 according to CEFR were presented and distributed to Czech foreign language teachers. Materials were tested in various types of teaching groups by means of a questionnaire survey and short interviews and then the acquired data were evaluated. Respondents also expressed how often they perform video-based activities, confirming the hypothesis about minimal use of video in Czech language courses for non- native speakers.
Czech of Chinese Native Speakers in CzeSL-SGT Corpus

The present thesis deals with a part of the Czech National Corpus: to be specific, it deals with a collection of data from CzeSL-SGT, a student corpus, that have been obtained from students of the Czech language whose L1 is Chinese. This section is introduced in the first chapter of the thesis with regard to the context of the acquisition corpus CzeSL. The second - main - chapter examines the corpus through metadata that can be found in every student text.
