Construction après + Perfect Infinitive in French and its Respondents in Czech
Horníková, Alžběta ; Nádvorníková, Olga (advisor) ; Kučerová, Magdalena (referee)
Propositional condensations represent an effective manner of concise expression within a phrase. In the French language, a construction formed with infinitive and preposition can fulfil this function. This paper aims to analyse one of these constructions: the construction après + perfect infinitive; especially its functioning in French and its possible respondents in Czech. Given the possibility of propositional condensation, the construction is expected to appear more frequently in texts containing narrative sequences, particularly in fiction or journalism. According to the perfect form of the infinitive combined with the preposition après in the construction, the whole structure expresses a concept of anteriority; and thus, the possible Czech respondents of the construction should be provided by subordinate clauses of time. The research in the parallel corpus InterCorp shows that the construction après + perfect infinitive is very common in fiction and journalism, namely in news, whereas it has lesser representation in commentaries. Concerning the Czech respondents of the construction, subordinate clauses of time are the most common equivalents, however, there are more possibilities such as main clauses or structures composed with a preposition and a verbal substantive.

Quebecisms in contemporary French and their perception in France
Šurabová, Zuzana ; Mudrochová, Radka (advisor) ; Nádvorníková, Olga (referee)
This bachelor's thesis studies the vocabulary in the territory of today's Quebec based on the metalinguistic corpus created from the dictionary of Quebecian expressions Le dictionnaire des québécismes. The thesis is divided into two main units, the theoretical part and practical research. After Quebec and its historical development are presented and put into context, the thesis focuses on the linguistic situation in today's Quebec. First, Quebecisms are defined according to scientific literature dealing with linguistic phenomena in this territory. After that, a corpus of terms is created based on a selected dictionary. Terms that are not contributive for this thesis are subsequently eliminated. The final part of this thesis presents a research carried out in the form of a questionnaire, through which the native speakers' knowledge of selected Quebecisms is described.

The theoretic part of the thesis attempts to outline the synthesis of lexicological findings which enable us to define the particularities and the differences of both variants. The aim of the practical part is to conduct an analysis of the lyrics of songs of both rappers and to compare the use of particular lexical expressions. These expressions are subsequently examined in referential but also in unconventional, French and Quebec dictionaries. A corpus analysis of the semantic interpretation factors of the French gérondif
Nádvorníková, Olga ; Loucká, Hana (advisor)
in English A corpus analysis of the semantic interpretation factors of the French gérondif The aim of this work is to analyse factors influencing the interpretation of the implicit meaning of the French gérondif (Ger), and to explain, on the basis of this research, the semantic functioning of this non-finite verbal form (in connection with its equivalents in Czech). Our departing point is that the Ger form functions as an interpretation instruction, which defines the means of the integration of the action of the Ger into the action of the main proposition. This interpretation instruction defines the semantic invariant of the Ger, and thus its basic meaning; other meanings are derived on the basis of complex interactions of syntactic, lexical and pragmatic factors. The method used to examine these factors is based on a computer analysis of wide data acquired from monolingual and parallel corpora (FRANTEXT and InterCorp). Part I presents a summary of the results of the latest research of Ger and defines the specific factors: morphological which determine the essential interpretation instruction of the Ger (I.1.1) and basic relationships of aspect and time between the Ger and the main proposition (I.1.2); syntactic which define the Ger as a predication (I.2.1), its syntactic function in the context of...

Hlubučková, Andrea ; Nádvorníková, Olga (advisor) ; Mudrochová, Radka (referee)
Perfect Participle in Contemporary French and its Equivalents in Czech The aim of the diploma thesis is a concrete corpus analysis of perfect participle in French and its functioning in absolute and adjectival constructions. The theoretical part defines perfect participle from the point of view of morphology, syntax and semantics and its part is also mapping Czech equivalents. The empirical part is based on analysis of concrete presence of participle constructions in parallel corpus InterCorp v10 with French - Czech alignment and with limitation of fictional and specialized texts. The focus is put mainly on frequency and on different types of use of this participle construction and on semantic interpretation in terms of secondary statement. Another part of the analysis deals with Czech equivalents which replace the past (compound) participle. Key words: participle, corpus analysis, French, Czech, InterCorp
Concession in the Europarl Corpus: a Formal and Contrastive Analysis
Drobník, Ondřej ; Nádvorníková, Olga (advisor) ; Kučerová, Magdalena (referee)
(English) The presented diploma thesis deals with the French concession connectors bien que, quoique, encore que, malgré que and certes-mais. The aim of the thesis was to describe their behaviour in French and to compare them with Czech. As the main classification criteria, we choose the position of the concédé and the asserté, and the finiteness of the concédé. By reason of technical arrangement of the corpus, the type of concession is described only marginally. The connectors were described on random samples from the parallel corpus Europarl. This corpus contains transcripts of the European Parliament's debates and was chosen due to the high content of argumentative structures. In the defined samples, bien que and certes-mais are very close in their function (most often is the government of finite concédés in anteposition). Another class consists of encore que and malgré que (commonly govern finite concédés in postposition). Quoique is aside, because it prefers on our samples non-finite concédés in postposition. And thus, the conjunction connectors, which are often referred to as synonymous, exhibit different behavior in terms of the factors described. More generally, the anteposition of concédés emphasizes the validity of the concessive implication, while its postposition stresses the concessive...

Marková, Apolena ; Nádvorníková, Olga (advisor) ; Mudrochová, Radka (referee)
The thesis deals with the expression of terminativity in French and Czech. It is based on the French terminative periphrasis finir de + infinitive and finir par + infinitive for which possible Czech counterparts are represented. The theoretical part of the thesis deals with terminativity as a verbal category and its various expressions in French and Czech. It focuses on the peripherals finir de + infinitive and finir par + infinitive in particular. Based on data obtained from specialised literature and translation dictionaries, it creates an overview of the Czech counterparts of the mentioned French periphrasis. The empirical part verifies this overview on the material from the parallel corpus InterCorp. Based on the results of the research, it presents a modified and expanded overview of the Czech counterparts of the mentioned periphrasis. Keywords: verbal periphrasis, Czech, French, terminative aspect, Aktionsart
Use of the Pronoun « ça » in Spoken French
Pavlovičová, Denisa ; Nádvorníková, Olga (advisor) ; Mudrochová, Radka (referee)
This thesis deals with the use of a demonstrative pronoun "ça" in contemporary spoken French; especially in regard to its referential and syntactical function. The theoretical part of the thesis defines the pronoun and summarizes its use in specific syntactical structures. In addition, it defines the pronoun in contrast to pronouns with similar functions; particularly the pronoun "cela" which is considered to be a full standard form of the pronoun "ça". Moreover, the thesis pays attention to reference of a spoken, mostly French, language and its specifics. The empirical part draws from two corpora in order to analyse the occurrences of the pronoun "ça". The first one, Europarl, focuses on a pseudo-spoken argumentative type of speech and the second one, CLAPI, focuses on a spoken spontaneous speech. The analysis aims to identify various empirical and referential uses of the pronoun "ça" in the given corpora. The aim of this thesis is to show how the choice of the language register influences the use of "ça" in modern language. The final part of the thesis presents a questionnaire that was given to French speakers with the intent to find out whether there might be some instances in which the pronoun is considered as irreplaceable, even in standard French.
