Legionnaires as a mebmbers of a gendarmerie corps in the interwar Czechoslovakia
Šimek, Viktor ; Šedivý, Ivan (advisor) ; Čechurová, Jana (referee)
The thesis analyses the role of legionaries who served in the gendarmerie corps and in the context of the First Republic era. The timeframe of the thesis is defined from the establishment of the Republic in 1918, respectively from the beginning of the recruitment of the first legionaries to the Gendarmerie Corps, until the end of the First Republic, with the addition of an outline of the situation in the Protectorate. Research questions include whether state- guaranteed benefits were applied in practice. Whether the legionary background helped gendarmes to advance in their careers and, last but not least, whether their service differed from that of other gendarmes (e.g., in the form of exemptions). Attention will be paid to the evaluation of the performance of legionary gendarmes by their commanders and subsequent comparison with the performance of other gendarmes. Time-wise, the thesis is divided into three blocks, according to the relevance to the phenomenon. In order to answer these questions, primary sources were worked with, especially the fonds of the General Commander of the Gendarmerie in the National Archives. In addition, sources stored in the Military Central Archive and the archives of the Ministry of the Interior were used. Secondary literature on the subject is, with few exceptions,...

Bujárek, Vojtěch ; Šedivý, Ivan (advisor) ; Randák, Jan (referee)
The bachelor thesis is focused on the development of Indology in Czech or rather Czechoslovak milieu between 1945 and 1968. Its goal is to describe on the base of source material the institutional and personnel development of this scholarly discipline in the given period, to determine the object of the Indological research and its changes in time and to analyse the meaning of the term Indology itself in the contemporary discourse. Three main chapters focused on the Third Czechoslovak Republic period, on the 1950s and 1960s include an outline of the development from the "old" Indology which was focused on issues of ancient India, to the "new" Indology which attempted to encompass themes of contemporary India and evolved into a generally prospering discipline respected abroad before the invasion of Warsaw Pact armies to Czechoslovakia in August 1968 brought this promising development to an abrupt end.

Part of the resistance against the Nazi Germany were partisan troops operating in the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia. They arose in mountainous and forested areas - particullarly suitable terrain was at Moravia-Slovak border, the Moravia-Silesian Beskids and the region Wallachia. The first partisan units were formed there in the spring of 1942 but the major resitance started only after the partisan unit led by Ján Ušiak and Dajan Bajanovič Murzin crossed the border from Slovakia to Moravia and I. Czechoslovak Partisan Brigade of Jan Žižka was founded. This thesis deals wiht the activities of querilla units operating in Wallachia during World War II. It primarily focuses on the troops whitch were part of I. Czechoslovak Partisan Brigade of Jan Žižka therefore is set mainly in the final period of the war, that is 1944-1945. The aim is to analyze life in the partisan units and the problems that the partisans had to face. In selected cases, the close supporters of the guerillas will also be reflected. Jews in Polná in first half of the 20th century
Formáčková, Anna ; Čechurová, Jana (advisor) ; Šedivý, Ivan (referee)
Annotation: This bachelor thesis deals with the issue of the Jewish population in the town of Polná. It pays the most attention to the interwar period, but marginally focuses on the period during both world wars. The work deals with both the daily life of the Jewish community and more general contexts. The work is based on the testimony of witnesses who were not themselves members of the Jewish community, but were connected by personal ties with the Jews, so their destinies were very directly influenced and affected. Very marginally, the work also deals with the post-war period. The main goal of this bachelor's thesis is a comprehensive presentation of information about the Jewish community in Polná in a specified period of time. Another ambition of the work is to contribute to the local bibliography on the topic and to raise awareness of this issue. Due to the current situation where the coronavirus pandemic complicates access to information and resources, the work is mostly based on the literature and edited sources.
Torwads new man! Social experiment in Post-war Czechoslovakia demonstrated in the example of Emil Zátopek.
Švehla, Jan ; Šedivý, Ivan (advisor) ; Randák, Jan (referee)
In this diploma thesis I deal with the concept of a new socialist man in Czechoslovakia between 1948 and 1956 on the example of Emil Zátopek. The aim was to analyze the form of the new socialist man on the example of selected fiction, newspaper articles, visual, audio and archival material, taking into account the person of Emil Zátopek. The research was conducted using methods of discursive analysis. I approached the concept of the new socialist man as a social construct. Research has shown that the image of the new socialist man was dynamic and was misused by communist ideologues to create images of ideal citizens and emphasize the negative qualities of external and internal enemies. Exceptional personalities, such as Emil Zátopek, were shown by period propaganda as ideal citizens who were a harbinger of a new world. Zátopek's period image consists of two forms that intertwined with each other. Their combination enabled the communist propagandists to present Zátopek as a new socialist man, yet an ordinary citizen. The diploma thesis is divided into three chapters, which refer to each other. The chapters were conceived according to the image of Zátopek in contemporary propaganda.
