Application of cloud computing for map graphics processing automation, cost optimization using simulation methods
Fröhlich, Martin ; Bruckner, Tomáš (advisor) ; Dlouhý, Martin (referee)
The thesis deals with the use of cloud computing to solve computationally intensive task. Simulation methods are employed to analyze the operation of the proposed system before putting it into operation. Cloud computing makes the functionality of modern data centers accessible to small businesses, cloud allows scaling up and scaling down of resource usage on an as-needed basis; moreover, without high initial investments and long-term commitments. The paper examines in detail the ways to adapt the currently most popular cloud environment of Amazon's Elastic Compute Cloud to the specific requirements of custom applications and suggests ways to automate the process of creation and customization of instance images. The automation and management of running applications in cloud environment is demonstrated on the example of geographic data processing and map generation application. The simulation model for running applications in the cloud is built and exploited to verify the ability of the proposed solutions to succeed in a production deployment.
Comparison of Simulation Software and Areas of Its Application
Hora, Pavel ; Kuncová, Martina (advisor) ; Dlouhý, Martin (referee)
This diploma thesis deals with computer simulation. In the opening, there are descriptions of theoretical aspect of computer simulation, simulation model structure and individual phases of simulation process. After that follow areas of application, characteristic features of each area and classification of simulation models, that are used in those areas. In this thesis only 4 areas of application were chosen: automotive industry, logistics and transportation systems, healthcare and military simulation. Each application area contains descriptions of a few chosen simulation software products that are used in this area. At the close there is a price comparison of described simulation products, their usage in Czech Republic and their development evaluation.
Simulation of the course of the cultural event
Vávra, Michal ; Dlouhý, Martin (advisor) ; Kuncová, Martina (referee)
This diploma thesis deals with the question of simulation models. It is divided into the theoretical and practical part. The aim of the opening part, in which the fundamental theory is defined, is to familiarize the readers with the ideas and advantages which simulation models can offer. In its practical part the work already focuses on the particular simulation project which should point out the possibilities of utilization of these models in practice. The subject of this project is the simulation of the course of the cultural event in the O2 Arena stadium. The main goal of this project is creation of the authentic simulation model which would on the basis of the later analysis enable the elimination or optimalization of the predefined major problems that are connected with organizing big cultural events in this arena.
The use of simulation models for company processes improvement
Votruba, Pavel ; Dlouhý, Martin (advisor) ; Princ, Peter (referee)
Simulation models are used to analyse company processes. The purpose is to create a model in simulation software that will represent the behaviour of the company. Options to improve the current situation are investigated by observation of the studied system and subsequent experimenting with the model. This work deals with the situation in the company, which focuses on lease and service of working platforms. New headquarters is being built to provide better services and changes in offer of leased working platforms are being considered. Model of the company is created in software SIMUL8. Next step is to perform simulation experiment and summarize the results. Input values are adjusted according to these results, which leads to a more favorable solution. The aim of this work is to optimize the working capacity and improve the structure of offer of leased working platforms.
Trust in Economics
Priesemeister, Juliane ; Dlouhý, Martin (advisor) ; Fíglová, Zuzana (referee)
In the ongoing debates about the reasons and impacts of the financial crisis 2008, trust is supposed to play a relevant role. Unaware of this future happening the economic researchers Paul J. Zak and Stephen Knack published a paper in the late 90's, where they tried to find a correlation between economic growth and trust. Their applied model proved that there is a connection between the level of confidence and the economic wellbeing, represented by GDP growth. If this is still the case, after the dramatic damages of the worlds financial systems, and if the model is adoptable to prove again the correlation with today's data, is the content of this thesis. With the help of a regression calculation not all the findings of Zak and Knack could be confirmed. Some show an opposite development, some have still the same impact and others are not statistical significant. But nevertheless it demonstrates that trust, and its determinants, are correlated to the economic progress of a country. Moreover is proved that trust can be influenced - negatively, by high degree of inequality, and positively, with a low degree of bribery and economic discrimination.
The use game theory and real options valuation in investment decisions
Kuchina, Elena ; Dlouhý, Martin (advisor) ; Rada, Miroslav (referee)
This work demonstrates a new approach how to evaluate investment projects under uncertainty. This approach consists of the unification of real option valuation and game theory principles. The application of the theoretical foundation of this "option game" is shown on the illustrative example, that represents two-stage game. Analysis of this example compares the investment project's value in case when the R&D investment is not carried out with the case when this investment is made. In latter case there are two different possibilities whether the investment outcomes are proprietary or shared. The present work shows that in the evaluation of investment projects besides standard NPV there is flexibility value and the value of strategic effect; whereas these two components usually go against each other. Within the framework of the given illustrative example a breakdown of the investment project's value is demonstrated in different cases.
The Simulation Model of the Development of Pension Insurance
Zárubová, Radka ; Dlouhý, Martin (advisor) ; Kuncová, Martina (referee)
First, this thesis introduces the system of pension insurance with state contribution including its proposed amendment made in 2009. Its aim is to forecast and to analyse expected development in pension insurance with state contribution. The main part of the thesis is focused on the simulation model of this insurance product. Within this model, annual interest on contributions is randomly generated and the amount of money a client of a hypothetical pension fund would receive is calculated. To facilitate this simulation, I programmed and attached (as a part of the thesis) an application in VBA language which enables to run this simulation in the preset number of replications. The thesis gives four examples of simulation experiments -- a simulation of pension insurance, and a simulation of pension saving, both versions both with and without contributions made by client's employer. The comparison of the expected efficiency of the both systems from the point of view of the government and a client is drawn at the end of the thesis.
Staff scheduling in health services
Uhlíř, Filip ; Dlouhý, Martin (advisor) ; Fábry, Jan (referee)
Purpose of this thesis is to show different solutions for the staff scheduling in health services. There will be shown various issues that this special assignment problem brings. The text will describe solutions using mathematical modeling and one solution using heuristics. Solutions of the mathematical models are divided into two parts. The first part describes two models that address the assignment problem for night duties only. The second part describes two more models that address the assignment problem for the whole day. The models are compared with each other. Among other things, there are also described several possibilities how different models could be combined. Model example is calculated for the staff allocation on night duties. The example uses some of the conditions from the two models that solve this assignment problem.
DEA models and application on baseball teams
Novotný, Šimon ; Jablonský, Josef (advisor) ; Dlouhý, Martin (referee)
The aim of this diploma thesis is to analyze the efficiency of teams that have participated in the last season of Major League of Baseball. To measure this efficiency Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) models are used. Theoretic part is focused on explanation of basic definitions related to DEA. The emphasis in this part is concentrated on basic models which are applied in the second part of the thesis. Application study is focused on computation of attack and defence efficiency using BCC a CCR model. In the end the efficiency given by DEA models is compared to the position of teams in the final table.
Application of Game Theory to Oligopolistic Market
Nekola, Jan ; Dlouhý, Martin (advisor) ; Rada, Miroslav (referee)
This work demonstrates the use of models of game theory to oligopolistic market. It is based on the models of Bertrand, Cournot, Stackelberger, which solves, how optimally the companies decide to maximize their benefit. There is illustrative example here, which is an extension of these models. Decision-making takes place in the several stages, where strategy is suggested according to the certain rules of game theory. Second example deals with the signaling game. My goal is to introduce the theory to the illustrative example and show, how games are sensitive to the changing of information or how specific factors affect the game.
