Larval cestodes as model organisms used in biomedicine
Vajs, Vojtěch ; Horák, Petr (advisor) ; Kolářová, Iva (referee)
Both species of tapeworm, Taenia crassiceps and Mesocestoides corti, are used in biomedical research. Their exceptional attributes make them suitable model organisms for various forms of neurocysticercosis. Moreover, their ability to affect the metabolism and immunity of their hosts represents a potential cure for various autoimmune diseases, such as type 1 diabetes or multiple sclerosis, and various types of cancer, such as melanoma or breast cancer. The immunomodulatory capabilities of helminths and their mechanisms, which have been known for some time already, have recently commanded researchers' attention to their effect on the host organism's inflammatory reactions, including the enhancing impact of their products on the immune response. Current research is seeking to reveal the effects and underlying mechanisms of these helminth abilities and to discover further diseases, in which they could be applied. This review summarizes the reasons these cestodes are used as models, the effects of cestode infection on the host organism, and their use in neurocysticercosis study. Also, various examples where primarily T. crassiceps shows to be a potential candidate for the development of new treatments or the improvement of those already in use will be mentioned. Key words: Taenia crassiceps,...
Recent diagnostic challenges in schistosmiasis
Liberdová, Jana ; Chanová, Marta (advisor) ; Horák, Petr (referee)
Schistosomiasis is debilitating waterborne helminthiasis of global medical and veterinary importance. It is caused by digenetic trematodes of the genus Schistosoma. More than 250 million people are currently infected, and 700 million people are at daily risk of acquiring this neglected tropical disease. Schistosomiasis is prevalent mostly in sub-Saharan Africa, particularly in poor communities living in impoverished conditions with limited access to safe water. The global control of this disease relies on single drug-oriented preventive chemotherapy campaigns. Changing epidemiological situation together with the general nature of this parasitosis (long-term development in several phases, multiorgan pathogenesis with complex manifestations) makes its diagnosis difficult. Current diagnostic standards may be unreliable in many specific settings, and their universal use needs to be reconsidered. In schistosomiasis diagnostics, the choice of specific methodology should be made accordingly to the particular situation requirements. The present thesis reviews recent approaches and challenges in schistosomiasis diagnostics. Key words: schistosomiasis, diagnostics, neglected diseases, global control, elimination
Energy Performance Certificate Buildings with Nearly Zero Energy Consumption
Odstrčilíková, Aneta ; Vyhlídalová, Karolína (referee) ; Horák, Petr (advisor)
The bachelor's thesis deals with the evaluation of the energy performance of the residential building in Brno. The theoretical part is about solar collectors and their distribution. In the computational part, it compares the non-renewable primary energy and the total supplied primary energy for the designed variants. It analyzes the energy needs and flows of the building. In part C there are two energy performance certificate of building – for the initial state and the designed state.
Residential House Heating
Mašek, Miroslav ; Počinková, Marcela (referee) ; Horák, Petr (advisor)
This bachelor thesis is divided into three parts. The first part is theoretical and deals with the issue of regulation of heating systems. The second part, which is computational solves a comprehensive design of heating and hot water in an apartment building in Kyjov. The third part is a project and contains a technical report and project documentation.
Energy Performance Certificate of the Building
Lněnička, Petr ; Vyhlídalová, Karolína (referee) ; Horák, Petr (advisor)
This bachelor thesis deals with the evaluation of the energy performance of the Mars hotel in Špindlerův Mlýn. The theoretical part of this thesis is focused on the conversion of sunlight into electric power using solar-powered photovoltaics. The practical part is focused on the analysis of energy consumption and energy flux of the inspected building. The final part C concerns about the result of this thesis – the energy performance certificate of the analyzed building.
Heating of Guesthouse
Joch, Tomáš ; Horák, Petr (referee) ; Počinková, Marcela (advisor)
The object of this bachelor thesis is to design heating system and hot water heating for guest house. It is a three-storey main building connected by a corridor with five-storey tower. Both buildings are non-cellar and heated are all of the storeys. Heating is solved by radiators panel, tubular and floor convectors. Hot water heating is provided by indirect heating in storage tank. The source of heat are gas condensing boilers. The theoretical part deals with materials for heating distribution.
Design of heating system for multifunctional building
Illichman, Petr ; Horák, Petr (referee) ; Vyhlídalová, Karolína (advisor)
The Bachelor thesis is divided into the theoretical part, the computational part and the project. Theoretical part consists of the basic description and the division of the fittings in a heating. In the computational part, I deal with heating proposal and a hot water preparation in the building of a multifunctional house st. Anny, located in Brno. The building has a four floors and the basement, commercial space, garages and apartments. The building designed with the gas condensing boiler and the indirect heating tank for domestic hot water use, the heating of the building is supplied the by plate and tube radiators. The project contains technical report and drawing documentation.
Building evaluation in the form of building energy performance certificate
Hlubinka, Josef ; Počinková, Marcela (referee) ; Horák, Petr (advisor)
The bachelor thesis deals with the evaluation of the energy performance of the office building in Brno. The theoretical part deals about biomass and its use in heating buildings. In the computational part, it is evaluated the energy performance of building. The result is building energy performance certificate inserted into part C – the PENB project.
Design of a heating system of a new apartment building
Dubisová, Daniela ; Horák, Petr (referee) ; Vyhlídalová, Karolína (advisor)
The bachelor thesis deals with heating system of an apartment building in Brno. The building has five floors without underground. The theoretical part is dealing with a design radiators, their division and comparison with panel radiators. The practical part included complete calculation and design of individual elements of radiator system. Two condensing boilers are design like a heating source. A part of the practical part is also deign of the hot water preparation.
Energy-conscious building optimization
Ryšavá, Veronika ; Vyhlídalová, Karolína (referee) ; Horák, Petr (advisor)
The aim of the diploma thesis is to design austerity measures of an apartment building in the form of an energy card. The theoretical part deals with heat pumps. The computational part solves the evaluation of the current state of the building, the proposal of two variants, the assessment in terms of energy and economic and recommendations of the selected variant. There is also an experimental measurement specializing in thermovision imaging. The project contains energy certificates of individual states of the solved object.
