Effects and costs of economic-social model in the EU and USA
Štaudová, Kateřina ; Bič, Josef (advisor) ; Tunkrová, Věra (referee)
Social capitalism exists in several different types. Socio-economic models vary across Europe, where we can find five such models. Scandinavian model is typical for northern countries, in Great Britain and other Anglo-Saxon states the liberal model is used, conservative model is applicable to most countries of continental Europe and the Southern model is used by Mediterranean states such as Greece, Italy, Portuguese and Spain. The most significant difference between the socio-economic models is the way of how the state intervenes into the economy, whether it is the intervention to the tax level, to the system of transfer payments or the regulation of the labor market. These differences produce various results in the field of performance of every economy. The most successful seems to be the Scandinavian model, typical for Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland. The health care reform, which has now started in the United States, should move the liberal model of the USA closer to being a welfare state.

Competitiveness and Enviromental Protection in the EU
Havlíčková, Lenka ; Bič, Josef (advisor) ; Tunkrová, Věra (referee)
The bachelor thesis examines the impact of the EU environmental policy on the competitiveness in the region. Environmental measures are assesed in the context of macroeconomic competitiveness focusing on climate policy. The theoretical concept of competitiveness and EU climate policy is introduced and their interconnection evaluated. This is applied on the European emission trading system and partially on the situation in the Czech republic. As the direct relationship between environmental policy and competitiveness has not been proved, the empirical studies offer no consensus on potential nor real impacts of the European emission trading system on the EU competitiveness.
Prospects of Iceland's membership of the European Union in the context of economic crisis
Čepek, Michal ; Stuchlíková, Zuzana (advisor) ; Tunkrová, Věra (referee)
The thesis deals with the prospects of Iceland's potential membership of the European Union after a deep systemic financial crisis that hit the country in the second half of 2008. Next summer, Icelandic government applied for a first time in history for a membership of the EU. However, Iceland was for a long time known as a country denying any political integration with other European countries, defending its neutrality and restricting its foreign policy to business ties. The thesis has two main goals. The first one is to try to answer the question whether Iceland will actually join the Union or not. The final decision will be in hands of Icelandic citizens because they have to ratify the accession treaty in a national referendum. The second goal is to evaluate advantages and disadvantages of adopting the euro currency for Iceland as this was one of the main arguments of pro-European Icelanders.
