Teaching methods and class organisation in German language teaching with reference to pupil's age

The Diploma Thesis deals with teacbing methods and classroom organisation in Gennan language teaching with reference to pupil's age. The first, theoretical-oriented part of the Thesis describes psychological and physical development of pupils~ classification and description of selected teaching methods and types of classroom organisation. Last but not least it contains the typology ofexercises for teaching purposes. The second, practice-oriented part maps teaching methods and types of classroom organisation commonly used in German language teaching with reference to pupil's age which is regarded as one of the fuctors influencing the choice of teaching methods and classroom organisation. Two classroom observation templates, a questionnaire and some samples of filled observations sheets along with teaching materials used by teachers during the 1essons are attached in appendices.

During the 19th century German language teaching as a foreaing language was significantly changing related to the development of education and the promotion of Czech language as the main teaching language at Czech schools. German language became optional foreign language even though there was a large number of pupils interested in learning German. German was offical language until the estabilishment of an independent Czechoslovak Republic also in Czech lands. In the introduction I focus on the organizational structure of the Czech education system in the Austria-Hungary monarchy between 1869 and 1918. Secondary vocational education was mostly changing and developing at this time, real gymnasiums and various specialization vocational schools were formed. I pay attention to teachers and their education too, since without good teachers there is no chance to have high quality education. The main focus of my work is an overview of the development of teaching methods of modern foreign languages. Development of methods is described chronologically from 17th century and in more detail in 19th century, when the most methods were invented. TITLE: Picture of illness and death in contemporary German literature for children and youth (The analysis and didactic adaptation in the context of selected works of world literature) SUMMARY:Presented thesis deals with literary reflections on illness and death in contemporary German literature for children and youth. The theoretical part explains the basic concepts such as illness, death, child and developmental stages of childhood, literature and literature for children and youth. These themes are then further processed. In more detail is the work devoted to analyzing literary works with that theme. The works are examined in terms of literary aesthetic and thematic components, composition and language components. In the practical part, the work focuses on the students perception of researched topic and work with specific literary texts. The final section compares the aspects of reception on illness and death of students of Czech and Austrian schools at the age of 14 to 19 years based on questionnaires filled in by those students which were used as the main research material. Analysis of textbooks complexes from the spelling point of view

The title of my diploma work is The analysis of textbooks complexes from the spelling point of view. There are defining concepts in the theoretical part: what the textbook is and its functions, criterions of the choice of a textbook and criterions of the analysis of a textbook. The aim of this research in the practical part is to find out the spelling methods of teaching at schools, the various textbook approach how to learn spelling and how the Czech pupils cope with the new rules of the German spelling.

Title: Using elements of art education in teaching German as a foreign language (with a focus on drama pedagogy and work with picture book "Queen of Colour" by Jutta Bauer) Summary: My thesis is focused on integration of aesthetic elements into a German language lesson. Such elements help to improve students' language resources and language skills and they also help to develop their personality. The subject of my work is relation between the language and art - particular art education, namely dramatic, musical, and literary - partly - art education and their application in a foreign language lesson. This thesis is based on the theory of drama pedagogy and on analysis of an authentic foreign language literary text, namely on the picture book genre. The topics in the practical section are taken from artistic sources and were tested in particular sample lessons. This information was used for the analysis of didactic games in the textbooks for learning and teaching German as foreign language in the second grade of the basic schools in the Czech Republic. Options for the use of didactic games in lessons for adult German students

Author: Michaela Menclová Consultant: PhDr. Pavla Nečasová, Ph.D. Title: Options for the use of didactic games in lessons for adult German students Summary: Playing games, in the education of foreign languages with children, is the most common technique used. In this thesis we will deal with the use of this method for education of adults with regard to its specifics. After the idea specification of "the didactic game" we classify the games and promote their education profitability, The most extensive part of this thesis pays attention to specific games. I have analyzed: already created games, or on the basis of my own experience. I offer my own games based on various modifications of already created games. After evaluation of surveys as well as analysis of textbooks files, I have reached the conclusion that playing games is a convenient method even in tuition of adult students. Furthermore I found out the fact that the frequency of playing games is not limited by the students' age. Of course the type of game is in dependence on the level of the students. The state of pronunciation skills of selected consonants among the students at the commencement of bachelor degree.

This Bachelor thesis deals with the ability to correctly pronounce certain German consonants. The aim of this thesis is to ascertain the pronunciation abilities of new students of German studies on the Faculty of Education of Charles University. German and Czech consonant system is thoroughly described and compared in the theoretical part of this thesis. Difficult phenomena are listed, described and analyzed by the method of auditory analysis of students' recordings in the practical part. The studied phenomena were the phone Ich-Laut in the words welcher and Veilchen, Ach- Laut in suchen, dachte, nach and macht, Ang-Laut in ging, Jünglinge, Fasching and bringt, consonantal /r/ in the words grüßten, fragten, April, elongating /h/ in ihr, blüht and geht, asipiration in Wald, schönste, April and Oktober, and assimilation in words Veilchen, wird, gelb, webt and sind. Only the assimilation of voice (not articulation) was examined. The results were classified on the scale correct-good-wrong. The most difficult was the phone Ang-Laut, because the consonants appears in Czech only as an allophone of /n/ directly before the consonants /k/ and /g/. In German it's an autonomous phone. The elongating /h/ (Dehnungs-H) was pronounced correctly. Words with the change of voice in the end of the word were pronounced...
Error correction of pronunciation of Czech students in German lessons

TITLE: Error correction of pronunciation of Czech students in German lessons ABSTRACT: This master thesis deals with error correction of pronunciation of Czech students in German lessons. Theoretical part of this thesis explains the importance of phonetics in German lessons, first the term error is defined in general sense and then the thesis focuses on pronunciation errors of Czech speakers. The thesis also deals with methods of pronunciation correction, question what is considered as an error in the field of phonetics and also reflects the error tolerance of teachers while correcting the pronunciation errors. The practical part of the thesis introduces a phonetic experiment that was conducted at elementary and secondary schools in Prague. On the basis of the evaluation of phonetic questionnaires and analysis of the inspections in the classes, the thesis comes to the conclusion about the tolerance threshold of teachers while correcting pronunciation errors of Czech speakers.
