Hradecká, Aneta ; Vacek, Oldřich (advisor) ; Jiří, Jiří (referee)
Thesis deals with a proposal for sustainable development of urban green areas in Litoměřice. Aim is to provide suitable conditions to guarantee a long term aesthetis value of cultivated trees and the trees stability in the individual town zones so they are not potentionally dangerous to properties or personal health. Urban green areas are an inseparable part of modern towns and cities. They create favourable living conditions. These areas has positive impact on microclimate in towns; influence psychological and mental state of inhabitans. Therefore, we should take care of those areas and make an effort to keep them functional and in high-quality conditions. Unfortunately, green areas in towns are exposed to a number of negative factors that have an immense impact on their value as well as lifespan. Among the greatest problems belong salinization of soil along motorways, dogs urine, transport, building operations, warm microclimate, soil and air pollution. In order to perserve quality of cultivated trees, towns need to systematically manage and look after green areas. Thus, a concept for maintenance of green areas has been developed, in which the green areas in Litoměřice were divided into eight zones. This concept includes recommendation of suitable selection of trees and their length of life cycle. Concept also presents development of individual zones depending on their character and utilization. Public green areas are proposed to become a part of maitenance system. Project offers a possible way of better care for green areas and maitain their appropriate conditions. Proposal brings changes into concept of urban green areas maintenance, which needs also the inhabitans understanding and change of their attitude. Overall change can improve environment in towns and provide them with sustainable system of the quality urban green areas.

This thesis has a form of literary research. It is divided into several chapters which are dealing with a landscape and later with the woods, at first in general and then in detail. In the first chapter and its subchapters is described what the landscape is, which scientific disciplines it is a part of, how it can be studied, its mening for humans and how it should be protected. The following chapter focuses on the wood itself. It begins with general characterization, continues with the migration in Europe and in our area which is closely connected to the diversification of species. The subsequent sections aim at the usage of trees from the perspective of different disciplines. One of the subchapters also describes the topic about symbolism of trees from selected families Aceraceae and Tiliaceae. Thesis proceeds to chapters, which are comparing expansive and invasive woods, then further describes usage of woods in the composition. At the end of this broad chapter which is concerned with woods are described scientific disciplines that deal with woods, there are also simply characterized hardwoods as well as the most common habitats where are these woods planted. The third and final chapter contains two selected families, Aceraceae and Tiliaceae that are, at first, generally described and characterized, and subsequently there are chosen individual autochthonous species and to them are given the individual subsections dealing with their appearance, cultivars, their vegetation requirements and utilization.
