Experiences of PICC team members with their work in selected university hospitals
Lukešová, Aneta ; Zvoníčková, Marie (advisor) ; Záruba, Pavel (referee)
The diploma thesis focuses on the investigation of the circumstances that caused the creation of teams for the insertion of vascular access in large teaching hospitals. Nowadays, the number of chronically ill patients who require vascular access is increasing. Great demands are placed on nurses and efforts are made to increase their competences. Therefore, we decided to analyze the experiences of the founders, managers and executives of the PICC team, focusing on perceived benefits and risks. Considering the traditional hierarchical model of the healthcare team, we were interested in how the doctors see the reasons and barriers when handing over the competences to nurses and how they perceive the position of nurses in the PICC team and the opinions of the healthcare management. Qualitative research in the form of a semi-structured interview was used for data collection. Two doctors and four nurses who participate in the management of vascular access were chosen as respondents. Data analysis was performed using segmentation and coding. On the basis of the conducted research, it was found that each hospital has its own management of the PICC team, and the organization of work in individual hospitals differs. We have nurses with the potential and desire to learn, but the capacity for certified courses...
NAS classification system in ICU nursing practice
Tichá, Denisa ; Zvoníčková, Marie (advisor) ; Zoubková, Renáta (referee)
The objective of this thesis is to create a translation of the NAS nurse workload scoring system and an instructional manual for its implementation. The translation from English to Czech, back translation and subsequent verification of the translation through a pilot study were carried out. The validation was facilitated by 6 General Nurses specialised in intensive care, with many years of experience in the field. Thanks to their help and that of other experts, we were able to produce a translation of both documents. We also took into account the recommendations we received from the nurses in these documents. We were also able to establish the time commitment involved in evaluating NAS.
Basis for the development of a certified course on venous accesses by a nurse
Tlachač, Zdeněk ; Zvoníčková, Marie (advisor) ; Dvořáková, Sandra (referee)
Introduction: Optimal venous access to the patient is essential for most medical and diagnostic procedures. Peripheral venous catheters are currently allowed to be inserted by registered nurses in patients older than 3 years in the Czech Republic. Central venous catheters are inserted exclusively by a physician. Other current options (LPC, midline, PICC) are increasingly involving nurses. To their education and training must be given great attention. Therefore, we decided to analyse the current situation in two selected Prague University hospitals. Objective: To map the situation in the teams involved in the insertion of vascular accesses in two university hospitals, especially in the area of the status and education of nurses who insert venous accesses. Respondents and methods: We contacted members of the PICC team from large Prague university hospitals, including the founders of the only training center for PICC and midline catheter insertion under ultrasound guidance in the Czech Republic. Data collection was carried out by semi-structured interview method. Segmentation and coding methods were used for data processing. Results: The identified categories - patient care, education, organization and management, and expert - are the main pillars to obtain proficiency in the insertion of PICC and...
