Interior vertical garden project
Hrabětová, Jana ; Vacek, Oldřich (advisor) ; David, David (referee)
Vertical gardens are considered to be quite a recent topic in the world of landscape architecture. Companies are pushed to come up with new technologies regarding application of the vegetation on the vertical surfaces. Interior vertical gardens are more common in Czech Republic than the exterior vertical gardens because of the local climate. Interior vertical gardens are not just beautiful but they present a lot of other positive functions. Nowadays, a lot of people are suffering by the Sick Building Syndrome which is caused by bad microclimate of modern buildings. This problem can be solved by using indoor plants. Indoor plants improve air humidity and quality and have a positive psychological effect. The subject of this thesis is designing three interior vertical gardens in Observatory of the Zizkov tower in Prague. Simple and attractive design of the interior is underlined by the vertical gardens. Objective of the thesis is creating unifying theme of the vertical garden´s design but using different kind of technologies and plants. Analysis of factors important for creating interior vertical gardens, such as light conditions, temperature and air humidity and technical infrastructure, are part of the thesis. The project part of the thesis includes design of the interior vertical gardens, technical information about particular technologies which have been used, planting plans and visualizations owadays majority of people spend most of the time indoors. Interior vertical gardens connect people with nature. Because of that they are very important in the modern architecture. However, vertical gardens are still quite expensive which is considered to be their biggest downside.

Malá, Kateřina ; Vacek, Oldřich (advisor) ; Jiří, Jiří (referee)
City council of Klatovy town in the Czech Republic submitted a contract for a new town park project on the place called "Za sv. Jakubem" in 2005. Studio SILVEX represented by Ing. Pavel Borusík won this contract and created a feasibility study as the first step of the project documentation. Till now the study has not been realized because of problematic ownership issues within the concerned area. This diploma thesis strives to solve the question of the up-to-dateness of that project which has been suspended for ten years by now. The main subjects of this thesis have been the project content evaluation, verification of up-to-dateness and to design a new solution respecting current and future needs of the city inhabitants and park users. Literary overview of the current state of the problem deals with public space areas characteristics, city park characteristics, graveyard characteristics including types of graveyards, burials, graves, burial history in the Czech Republic and Jewish cemeteries. The thesis addresses with the impact of the death on survivors and greenery effects as a green place useful for meditation. The graveyard topic is elaborated because of the geographical distance of Klatovy's town's graveyard to the intended park area. Evaluation of detailed data provides the fundamental information about Klatovy and the park place, brief contents and main thoughts of feasibility study "Za sv. Jakubem", own verification of the available documentation including changes in the property relations. All together it had served as a basis for designing new park concept proposal, which responds adequately to demands of park users. The project by Studio SILVEX proposes park place with purely town meaning, containing children playground, in-line skating track and other sport activities. The diploma thesis's park concept transforms the project with focus on scenery locations and relax place for visitors of the nearby town graveyard.
The analysis of the evolution of color change landscape
Uhrovičová, Alena ; Vacek, Oldřich (advisor) ; Klára, Klára (referee)
The main focus of the thesis is the color influence of people and the color composition in the landscape. The other aim is the psychology meaning of the human perception of different colors. Further, the focus is on the phenology, which aims to annual changes of plant´s organs within the grow cycle and plant changes during one year. Through the phytocenology there is a space for mapping of occurrence and evaluation of vegetation cover. Also, there are described in more detail the color models. The methodology is focused on color change monitoring of the sample area, which is located in Šumava Mountains within one vegetation cycle. The color change is demonstrated by 12 photos, and after that is verified and evaluated by the time-lapse image analysis. The main aim of the analysis is to propose the objective analysis how to measure the color changes during a year. By the hypothesis, we verify, if it is possible to measure seasonal changes objectively or not.
The posibilities of a landscape restoration after send mining
Vernerová, Marie ; Vacek, Oldřich (advisor) ; Havlová, Martina (referee)
This thesis deals with the possibilities of a reclamation after sand and gravel surface minig. It is based on our knowledge of the mining activities effects on the landscape and landscape character. The impacts of mining can be seen in all levels of the landscape structure. Minig activities affects geomorphic components of the landscape as well as a land use and landscape character. The most significant changes occure as a result of an extraction of send and gravel from the wather. As a reasult of mining huge lakes appear in those areas. This brings a change of landscape character and a land use. The second used method of surface mining is a dry extraction. The review of the reclamation possibilities in the Czech Republic is aso based on law in area of mining understanding. Studied literature divides reclamation techniques into two groups. The first group is composed of a traditional reclamation, which are agricultural, forest and hydric reclamation. The second group consists of ecological restoration tools - natural and managed succession and management tools.
Evaluating of territorial system of ecological stability on the territory of the municipality with extended competence Jilemnice
Maryšková, Ivana ; Vacek, Oldřich (advisor) ; Klára, Klára (referee)
The subject of this thesis is an evaluation of the territorial system of ecological stability (hereinafter referred to as TSES) in the Jilemnice territory in the Liberec Region and, specifically, in the cadaster units Jilemnice and Hrabačov. The evaluation is based on an analysis of a general plan for TSES dated 1993 and, also, town-planning documents; for the analysis, ArcGis software was used. Subsequently, certain remedies including principles aimed at preservation of the landscape sustainability were suggested. In the review of relevant scientific literature, TSES is described from a wider perspective of nature and landscape conservation both in the Czech Republic and worldwide and, also, sustainable development. Based on critical evaluation of data resources, relevant landscape including the territory in question is characterized; an evaluation of the structural parts and their functions provides a picture of the current situation. Based on a subsequent current state assessment, the thesis suggests changes to the structural parts. The information gathered therein provide a basis for defining proper methods to improve the conditions of TSES and, also, all the elements and related sites in order to enhance their ecological stability and function.

The study of the Amazonian Pavilion
Trčková, Veronika ; Vacek, Oldřich (advisor) ; Pavel, Pavel (referee)
If we designed a building intended for people, we would be able to base it on many predetermined regulations and standards. The only remaining work would be a detailed literature study and creation itself. Constructing buildings for regular farm animal breeding would, in a simplified way, follow the same pattern. However, the ecosystem pavilion is a very particular space. It's a combination of animals, plants, people and various technical, operational, layout and stage design solutions. Designing a tropical pavilion is a very complicated creation, requiring a coordination of various fields which need to find a way to cooperate. Therefore, the architect needs to work closely with zoologists, botanists, breeders and others, try to gain an insight into the animal farming issues and acquire the knowledge of trends in breeding and exposition practice. The aim of the diploma thesis is to summarize the findings drawn from reference literature and to develop a comprehensive research which consists of historical development of menageries, continues to contemporary modern zoological garden and finally to ecosystem pavilion phenomenon. After this complex issue, we review the foundation data on the definition and characteristics of the territory supporting the pavilion study and we reflect on the principles of designing the ecosystem pavilion. The project itself is a study of pavilion interior which represents a sector of Amazon ecosystem. We can simply say that it comprises living botanical and zoological collections of this habitat, which are supplemented by imitations of natural elements. It results in an almost perfect impression of the environment. In accordance with these basic principles, a philosophy of zoo exhibition concept is developed. A man and farmed species are put on a same level. The probability of a visitor to see the animal in the exhibition is the same as the chances of the animal to hide from unwelcome guests. This fact increases the ressemblance of the pavilion ecosystem visit to a real expedition into the countryside.
