Treatment of central venous catheters and the occurence of complications in pediatric patients hospitalised at hematoooncology

The bachelor thesis "Management of central venous catheters and their complications in pediatric patients hospitalized in hematology-oncology departments" deals with the care of CVC and their complications in pediatric hematology-oncology in the Czech Republic. The aim of the thesis was primarily to map the knowledge about the management of CVC among pediatric and general nurses working in pediatric hematology-oncology departments and to compare different management methods. The theoretical part consists of four chapters focusing on the venous system, general information about CVC, management of CVC, and complications that may occur. The empirical part presents the data collection method, implementation of the study, overview of the results and recommendations for practice. The research method used was a questionnaire of own construction, focusing on the management of CVC. The questionnaire was distributed to nurses working in pediatric hematology-oncology departments. Results: For statistical evaluation, 4 hypotheses related to: Length of practice, education level, type of workplace, and completion of training on CVC management were chosen. Proper handling of infant nutrition in hospital facilities

This bachelor thesis deals with issues related to the manipulation of infant nutrition in healthcare facilities. The theoretical part of this work deals with breast milk, infant formula and its specifics, administration of infant diet, as well as manipulation of infant nutrition in pediatric wards and in the dairy kitchen. The aim of the empirical part of this work was to verify the knowledge of nurses through a research survey and to identify possible differences in the manipulation of infant nutrition in different workplaces. A quantitative research method was chosen to obtain data using a self- constructed questionnaire containing 26 questions. Out of the original 130 distributed questionnaires, a total of 74 were analysed, with 3 excluded due to incompleteness, resulting in a response rate of 59.2%. The results of the research survey showed that the knowledge and practices of nurses in manipulating infant nutrition are not uniform. The most significant statistically significant difference in respondents' answers was related to the workplace where they are employed. No statistically significant difference was found in respondents' answers in relation to their education. Mother's awareness of the prevention of sudden infant death syndrome

The bachelor thesis entitled "Mothers' awareness of prevention of sudden infant death syndrome", deals, as the title of the thesis implies, with mothers' awareness of risk and protective factors of sudden infant death syndrome. The aim of the thesis is to find out whether and to what extent mothers are informed of these factors. The thesis consists of a theoretical and an empirical part. The theoretical part is focused on the basic knowledge about SIDS, the emphasis is put on risk and protective factors of SIDS, which are key in this issue. It is also focused on the issue of losing a child to SIDS and the process of coping with this loss. In the empirical part of the thesis are evaluated the results of a questionnaire survey aimed at obtaining information about the knowledge of respondents on the topic of safe sleep of newborns and infants. The term SIDS was deliberately omitted from the questionnaire survey in order not to influence respondents' answers. The aim was for respondents to answer the questions as they would actually practice the phenomena being questioned and not as they thought the answers were correct. Stress and burnout syndrome of nurses in pediatric inpatient wards

Bachelor thesis called "Stress and burnout syndrom of nurses in pediatric inpatient wards" deals with the issue of stressful environment in healthcare, which contributes to the emergence of burnout syndrome. The main goal is to bring to concise overview about stress load and burnout syndrome of nurses working in pediatric inpatient wards and to analyze their access to this issue. Theoretical part of thesis give the reader brief definitions. They are describing informations about stress, self-compassion and for a last, burnout syndrome. All these phenomens are intepreted to nurses work and the way they are influnces their work in healthcare. In empiric part of thesis is brief description of thesis's methodic and results of own research. The method of research is four-parted standardized questionaire, which includes anamnestic questionare, Perceived Stress Scale (PSS), Self-Compassion Scale (SCS) and Copenhagen Burnout Inventory (CBI). This questionare was distribude in Facult hospital in Motol on pediatric inpatient wards. Research includes 107 correctly filled questionaries. From results emerges that 63, 55 % respondents from total file suffers from rate of stress called "Mild stress". The level of self-compassion that most respondents have towards themselves (62, 62 %) is labeled "Medium level"....
The effect of a child's hospitalisation on the whole family

The bachelor thesis deals with the hospitalization of a child and all the factors that affect other family members in connection with the child's admission to a medical facility. The theoretical part of the thesis focuses on the child, the perception of illness, the impact of hospitalization on the child, as well as on the family, siblings and cooperation with medical staff. The empirical part is based on a quantitative research investigation and analysis of the data collected. The aim of the empirical part was to find out whether the child's hospitalization affects the family, family life and siblings. A quantitative research method was used using a non-standardized questionnaire of own design, which was intended for parents of children hospitalized in pre- selected wards of Motol University Hospital. 123 completed questionnaires were included in the actual survey. The reserch results of the survey show that parents of hospitalized children do not have sufficient support from the medical staff. The greatest support is provided by the family, which also provides help in the home and with other children. Awareness and Education of Parents within Postoperative Care for a child with Inserted Ventriculoperitoneal Shunt

This bachelor's thesis focuses on the topic of parental awareness and education regarding postoperative care for a child with an established ventriculoperitoneal shunt. The implementation of this shunt is a common surgical intervention to treat hydrocephalus. Objective: The aim of the thesis was to provide a comprehensive overview of relevant knowledge concerning the care of a child with a ventriculoperitoneal shunt. Another objective was to determine how parents of children with the shunt subjectively evaluate their own level of information, and how they perceive the approach of the medical staff, including mutual cooperation. It also sought to identify possible improvements in educational materials related to the issue. The method chosen for processing this work was quantitative research through a non- standardized questionnaire containing 29 questions. The questionnaires were distributed among parents of children hospitalized in the pediatric section of the neurosurgical clinic for children and adults at the 2nd Faculty of Medicine, Charles University, and Motol University Hospital. Nursing process in prevention of immobilization syndrome

The bachelor's thesis deals with the issue of immobilization syndrome. It aims to point out the risks associated with long-term immobilization, recognize the early symptoms of immobilization syndrome and prevent complications. The theoretical part focuses on the characteristics of the immobilization syndrome in individual organ systems, where related changes and prevention are described in detail. The empirical part consists of a questionnaire survey, which focuses on the knowledge of nurses from the standard and ICU departments. The verified knowledge concerns the prevention and nature of the immobilization syndrome. A total of 99 respondents across the Faculty Hospital in Motola participated in the survey. The obtained data were processed and then the knowledge of nurses was compared based on education, type of workplace and length of practice. Gastric tube nursing care at the newborns

The bachelor's thesis deals with the challenges of nursing care for gastric tubes in newborns hospitalized in perinatal centers. The theoretical part of this work provides an extensive overview of gastric enteral tubes, as well as indications and techniques for tube insertion in neonates. The aim of the practical part is to map nursing care and the techniques used when introducing and checking the position of gastric tubes. The research method of choice was a quantitative questionnaire survey a custom questionnaire. The survey was carried out in six perinatal centers out of total of twelve centers in the Czech Republic. These workplaces are: Institute for the care of mother and child, department of gynecology and obstetrics of the 1st Faculty of Medicine, Charles University and General University Hospital in Prague, Hospital České Budějovice, a.s., Krajská zdravotní, a.s.- Hospital Most o.z., Motol University Hospital, Krajská zdravotní, a.s.- Masaryk Hospital in Ústí nad Labem. Nursing process in a patient with hydrocephalus

The present bachelor thesis is devoted to the nursing process and education in a patient with hydrocephalus. The aim of the thesis was to determine to what extent the disease affects the patient's quality of life, focusing on the period before and after the insertion of a ventriculo-peritoneal shunt. Furthermore, how the patient felt during the hospitalization, whether he was satisfied with the attitude of the staff, whether he was properly educated before and after surgery or before discharge to home care. The theoretical part of the thesis is devoted to a detailed description of the disease, its causes in neonatal, childhood and adulthood, symptoms of patients of all ages and treatment options. The empirical part of the thesis is based on quantitative research investigation, analysis of the obtained data and comparison of the results of the thesis with similar works. Nursing care for newborns with oxygen therapy

The present thesis focuses on the nursing care of newborns with oxygenotherapy and its specifics. Furthermore, the thesis includes a review analysis of the respondents' knowledge related to oxygenotherapy in newborns. This thesis consists of two main parts, theoretical and empirical. The theoretical part of the thesis describes the principles of oxygen administration, methods of administration, the most common conditions requiring oxygen therapy and its complications. The basic knowledge in neonatology is often crucial for obtaining this information, which is highlighted in this thesis. Also, basic nursing care of neonates with oxygen therapy is briefly characterized. The aim of the empirical part of the thesis is to compare the obtained knowledge analysis of the nurses of the selected specialist units, namely the neonatal unit and the delivery room. The research method of the empirical part of this thesis was a quantitative research survey, focused on the knowledge of paediatric nurses, midwives and nurses of other job classifications working in neonatal wards or delivery rooms.
