Keltští žoldnéři ve službách mediteránních států a jejich návraty do krajin střední Evropy

O působení keltských žoldnéřů v mediteránním prostředí se překvapivě často zmiňují antičtí zpravodajové. Objevovali se ve službách tamních států, na Předním Východě, ve Velkém Řecku a v dalších částech jižní Evropy, a také v Egyptě nebo Kartágu. Doplňovali vojska mocností bojujících mezi sebou anebo proti Římské republice v době, kdy se zapojila do zápasů o dominanci v této oblasti, a poslední jednotky byly ve službě ještě v desetiletích před změnou letopočtu. Nálezy získané při archeologických výzkumech, především mince ražené ve Středomoří, které se objevují ve střední Evropě (Roseldorf, Němčice nad Hanou, Nowa Cerekwia) vedly k nastolení hypotézy, že se někteří z žoldnéřů do těchto míst po skončení služby vraceli. V článku jsou uváděny argumenty, které umožňují podpořit takové domněnky.

For many diverse scientific questions, readers will find relevant studies in the present proceedings, which contains a total of 18 studies by authors from Austria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, and Slovenia.

Využití záznamu oddělených spekter a interpretačních možností multispektrálních dat v kontextu protohistorie středního Podyjí

Významné rozšíření analytických a interpretačních možností metod dálkového průzkumu země v archeologii za poslední tři desetiletí přináší zejména rostoucí dostupnost kvalitativně odpovídajících družicových multispektrálních dat spolu s rozvojem multispektrálních senzorů používaných na bezpilotních vzdušných prostředcích. Výsledky multispektrálního zobrazování zprostředkovávají důležitou analytickou dimenzi pro identifikaci a interpretaci znaků archeologických jevů na plochách se zemědělskými monokulturami. Jako součást prospekční činnosti střediska pro výzkum doby římské a stěhování národů Archeologického ústavu Akademie věd ČR, Brno, v. v. i., je mezi aktuální cíle řazeno též využití potenciálu tohoto specifického segmentu DPZ (ve spolupráci s Ústavem krajinného plánování Mendelovy univerzity v Brně). Celkovým záměrem je přispět s využitím širokého spektra prospekčních metod k rozšíření archeologické informační základny zejména o protohistorickém segmentu vývoje regionu středního a dolního toku Dyje.

Preconditions of the genesis of the Přemyslid realm

In the following study we analyse the validity of the nowgenerally-accepted view of the beginnings of the Přemyslid realm. Those who established this viewpoint emphasisethe income from selling slaves (and distance trade in general) as the main source the dynasties in Central Europeused to strengthen their economic power, which, in the next stage, enabled them to build powerful cavalry armiesas their “iron fist”. With these armies they were supposed to have built their “states”. In this article, not only is theautomatism of this mechanism brought into question (the prevalence of the cavalry), but also the idea that a statecan be built with an army. The author, on the one hand, points out the predatory character of such a system, and onthe other hand draws attention to the building of hillforts as a mechanism that not only enhanced the protection ofa given area, but also, due to the need for construction and repairs, brought large groups of people together, and thusformed a common identity for them.

On the traces of barbarians – archaeological, historical, numismatic (Archaeology of Barbarians 2015)

The publication is the latest in the series of proceedings based on materials from Central European protohistoric conferences Archaeology of Barbarians. For the most part, the studies published here are a revised text of the lectures given at the 2015 conference Archaeology of Barbarian at the MAMUZ Museum Mistelbach in Lower Austria. The main theme of the conference was the Celts and Germanic tribes in the Middle Danube Region in archaeological and numismatic sources (2nd century BC - 2nd century AD), but space was also given to other phenomena of protohistoric development. Intensive discussions included, among other things, absolute and relative chronology of transitional horizons, issues of monetization and testimony of numismatic groups, military, economic and diplomatic interactions along the north-south axis of the region and other sub-themes. For most of these questions, readers will find relevant studies in the present proceedings, which contains a total of 18 studies by authors from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Hungary and Germany.
