La Hojarasca: fictional world and its persons
Budáč, Radoslav ; Vydrová, Hedvika (advisor) ; Fousek, Michal (referee)
This work deals exclusively with the novel La hojarasca, the first novel by Gabriel García Márquez, one of the most prominent living wri ters. In principle, my work may be subdivided into two basic parts: the first part is dedicated to links between the fictional world of the novel and the real world that surrounded it (Chapter 2 - Gabriel García Márquez and His First Novel and Chapter 3 - Reality and the Fictional World); the second is then focused on the novel itself and on its varied interpretations (Chapter 4 - La hojarasca).
The question of identity in José Donoso's novels
Měřičková, Kateřina ; Vydrová, Hedvika (advisor) ; Housková, Anna (referee)
My work treats the problem of identity in four of Donoso' s novels: Coronación, Este domingo, El lugar sin límites and El obsceno pájaro de la noche. I have called them "the chilean cycle" for the reason that Chile is still their scene. Between 1967 - 81, Donoso lives in Spain, so naturely his work is inspired by a different background. The problem of identity is for a1l of them a common denominator. It appears on the first point of vue like the individual problem of the humant beeing, however it is condicioned by the social relations. Besides, it pursues a certain graduating tendency, it is more and more urgent, like we can observe it in the treatment of the protagonists. This evolution is also ref1ected in the form of the novels which issues from the realism and approches more and more of the experimental novel.
Fragmented world of Enrique Lihn
Synáčová, Jaroslava ; Vydrová, Hedvika (advisor) ; Fousek, Michal (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to introduce a Chilean contemporary poet Enrique Uhn, in particular, the postmodern aspects of his poetry. ln the first part, main characteristic features of the actual society are presented, using such terms as posmodernity, age of emptiness, narcist and fragmentary society. The author continues with the explanation of the aesthetics of postmodernism that is characterized as either emerging from, in reaction to, or superseding, modernism. Afterwards, a short introduction to the postmodern literature is given, followed by a brief survey of the contemporary Latinamerican literature with a special focus on the Chilean poetry. Within this framework, we analyze Lihn's writing, both, its formal andcontent part. As a conclusion it is decided whether it is possible to consider Enrique Lihn a postmodern writer.
The individual and the social in the novel La casa grande
Obručová, Lucie ; Vydrová, Hedvika (advisor) ; Fousek, Michal (referee)
The focal point of this dissertation is the novel The Big House (La Casa Grande) by Álvaro Cepeda Samudio (1926 - 1972) a Colombian journalist, novelist, short storywriter, and filmmaker. Owing to the author' s personal literary development the dissertation pays shortly attention to his journalistic activities and further to his short story collection We Were Al! Waiting (Todos estábamos a la espera). In his novel he def1ects the town' s theme which is dominant one in his short stories and his novel emerges from his birthplace and its history. The subject is the historical event of the Ciénaga Massacre of striking journeymen from banana plantations. This is the backdrop to perform an individual drama, the one of a Colombian family whose inner problems ref1ect the whole society and acquire universal dimension. Above all, the analysis of the novel concentrates on the performance stage, individual characters who can be understood as archetypes, and on the time draft which necessitates repeating faults and mistakes. The fragmentary compositon of the novel correlates with the plurality of narrative perspectives and with the polyphonic narrative technique. The novel is to be understood knowing the background to the Colombian political life in the first half of the last century definied as bi-party system in its...
Juan Carlos Onetti: short stories from 1933-1950
Onetti tuto techniku přejímá, a nikdy nesklouzává do tendence vysvětlovat...

Lašťovková, Lucie ; Housková, Anna (advisor) ; Vydrová, Hedvika (referee)
In the thesis "Spanish American Novel of Dictator: Roa Bastos and Vargas Llosa" we attempted to investigate two concrete representatives of the genre of the novel of dictator, Augusto Roa Basotos' "Yo el Supremo" and Mario Vargas Llosa's "La Fiesta del Chivo", and to present the thematic and narrative elements common to the literary works of the genre of the novel of dictator.
Transformations of "Bildungsroman": La tía Julia y el escribidor a La Habana para un infante difunto
Kučerová, Markéta ; Vydrová, Hedvika (advisor) ; Fousek, Michal (referee)
The objective of this thesis was to analyse and compare two novels that were published in the late seventies-La tía Julia y el escribidor (1977, Aunt Julia and the Scriptwriter) by Peruvian Mario Vargas Llosa and La Habana para un Infante difunto (1979, Infante's Inferno) by Cuban Guillermo Cabrera Infante-and to search for the influences of the novel of formation. We have seen autobiographical elements in both books, analysed different levels of formation of the protagonists and mentioned the (parodic) inclination to the novel of initiation in Infante's Inferno. In the second part of the thesis we focused on other elements developed in both novels, for example the interference of trashy and extraliterary genres and the topic of literature and the occupation of the writer. We have concluded that both novels, although different, share the same platform.

Latin American global narrative at the turn of the millenium
Zúňiga, Jorge ; Vydrová, Hedvika (advisor) ; Housková, Anna (referee)
This thesis intends to establish a criterion for the analysis of the work of several contemporary Latin American writers at the end of the last century. The central point of this work is the phenomenon of globalization and its immediate consequences on the creative process of Latin American literature. Globalization, a powerful phenomenon of homogenization and world wide integration, has direct consequences in the approach between cultural realities. This generates a dialogue between cultures and disciplines with the inevitable effects of transculturation and social hybridism, symbiosis and syncretism. Two conglomerates of writers, currently not so contemporary, were chosen as the most representative and significant examples for this analysis. They date from 1996 and represent a premeditated and declared rupture against the literature that was being written in Latin America. The first conglomerate: five Mexican writers gather together around the denominated Crack Manifesto. The second: 141 McOndo is an anthology whose title makes a parody of Macondo, the archetypical city of Gabriel Garcia Márquez. The appearance of these new points of reference in Latin American literature draws our attention and we find it convenient to put them into its historic context and place in the Latin American narrative of the...
Contemporary Mayan poetry
Matochová, Hana ; Housková, Anna (advisor) ; Vydrová, Hedvika (referee)
At the beginning of this study, we try to include the contemporary mayan poetry written on the Yucatán Peninsula into the mexican literature context. We adopt a postmodern view which applies special features as texts written in spanglish or the indigenous literary stream in order to produce an image of a border as a creative space. In the following chapter some statistics about actual situation of yucatec maya language are presented. Further we mention the differences between the yucatec literature written in spanish since the beginning of the 20th century and the mayan literature. In the case of the latter one we have enclosed a definition of the mayan literature written in spanish, because it is the major topic of this work. It is based on the fact that the bilingual authors use to write in the mayan language and later they make translations of their own texts. Consequently we bring a brief presentation of a historical review of mayan filology, putting emphasis on the eighties of the 20th century, when the most important steps towards this renascence were done. This part is completed by the opinion of a contemporary poet Cocom Pech, observing the changes and the media impact on this cultural phenomenon after the inssurection of zapatistas. Later on we analyse the problem of intercultural comprehension. In...
