Oratorio Santa Cecilia by Antonio Draghi

The bachelor thesis deals with the oratorio Santa Cecilia by Antonio Draghi (1634 - 1700). The paper also summarizes the present knowledge about Draghi and his work, deals with the origins of the oratorio in Italy and the adoption and development of its tradition in Vienna during the 17th century. The thesis also focuses on the legend of Saint Cecily as a theme in music and includes the edition of selected arias and one ensemble of this oratorio. Mass compositions by Antonio Caldara in Prague

Each of the three parts of the present thesis treats one aspect of researching Antonio Caldara's masses written in Prague. Chapter One maps the current state of research and relevant basic sources on the Czech territory. Chapter Two focuses on a detailed description and following collations of Caldara's seven masses, quite exceptionally obtained from the musical collection of the Knights of the Cross with the Red Star, with other concordant sources. Examples of watermarks and manuscripts can be found in the Attachment. The partial analysis of selected masses described in Chapter Three serves as a complement to the research of sources. Much attention is given to the macro-structural division of mass compositions in relation to the liturgy.
Otakar Hostinský's estate in the Bedřich Smetana museum in Prague

On the basis of comparing the sources from inheritance of Otakar Hostinký in Bedřich Smetana Museum in Prague with his published works and other relevant literature (especially with the monography of Miloš Jůzl) the importance of this newly acquired sources is being evaluated. One part of them is used for the study of the role of Otakar Hostinský in the polemics on Prague music scene during the seventies of 19th century. Inventory of personal documents and correspondence from Otakar Hostinsky collection in Bedřich Smetana Museum is included.
F. V. Habermann: Philomela pia, sive missae sex

This bachelor thesis deals with the mass cycle Philomela pia by František Václav Habermann (1706-1783), a composer being nowadays mentioned primarily in connection with G. F. Handel, who used some of Habermann's music fragments in his own works. The paper summarizes the present knowledge of Habermann's biography and works, listing all the source materials of this mass cycle as well, but the central focus is on two analytical chapters. The first of them attempts to cover the basic parameters of Habermann's masses and puts them to the Central European as well as Italian musical context, the second one contains a detailed study of the technique and the extent of Handel's reworkings of Habermann's music, together with a comparison of the compositional techniques of both composers. Music life and important music events at Prague Order of the Cross with Red Star in the 18th century in paper-source background

This dissertation thesis is focused on music performance within the bounds of Order of the Cross with Red Star in the 18th century. The history of the Knight's Order rises from the first half of the 13th century and concerns the only original Czech church order. In the 18th century Knights of the Cross belonged to the most significant patrons of Art in Czech lands. Church and monastery of St. František in Prague, the center of the Order, became the most influential culture center. The charity work of the Order of that time influenced the creation of the extraordinary institution - the Order's menza that had the significant importance for operating of organ lofts of St. František Church because it provided the sufficient amount of singers and musicians. The research is exclusively based on non-music materials deposited in the Cross paper fond (Nr.195) consigned in the 1st department of the National Archives in Prague. According the information of the inventory department, the fond contains altogether 2315 cartons of paper material and 3306 books. Until now, the researchers have been interested in these sources only marginally which was caused mostly by its disorderliness and most important discoveries have been realized mostly just by lucky coincidences.
