Gender aspects of presentation of science in media : Presentation of female and male scientists
Tenglerová, Hana ; Havelková, Hana (advisor) ; Maříková, Hana (referee)
Science plays an important role in society, has an authoritative position and gets considerable financial resources. The media's image is constantly shaping and influencing the perception of society at large and the scientist alone. The work focuses on how science is constructed in the media from a gender perspective, how it reflects and reproduces the gendered order of our society. Research focus here concentrates on the presentation of women and men - scientists in four major Czech newspapers. Theoretical basis of the work are constructivism and particularly feminist media theory. Metodology is based on quantitative content analysis and qualitative analysis, inspired by semiology. Analysis results show that the women scientists are in the presentation of science ignored and their contribution is reduced in many aspects. From a quantitative underrepresenation, to their higher concentration at the backsides of the papers, the less authoritative role given to them in articles or by using of motherhood as a means of distracting from their expertise: preferred representatives of medial science are male. Key words: gender, media, science.
2014 Monitoring report on the position of women in Czech science
Tenglerová, Hana
The trend of increasing the representation of men in the already very masculinized research continues and horizontal segregation increases as well in sectors of research performance and fields. In 2014, the representation of women among researchers was lowest since 2001. In the business and higher education sector the proportion of women among researchers is declining, as well as in engineering, natural sciences and humanities. There is a growing proportion of women among associate professors and professors, but primarily due to a significant decline in men with these degrees. The head of research institutions were in 2014 only 13% women.

Tenglerová, Hana
The 2013 Monitoring Report shows again that the current situation is far from satisfactory. A number of many important data is not collected at all, or irregularly. The data that is available document that the increase in the number of women among students and graduates is not mirrored in the proportion of women among researchers. This occurs despite the fact that the total population of researchers has been growing in recent years.

Positon of women in the czech science. Report 2011
Tenglerová, Hana
Monitoring report presents data describing the status of women in Czech research and development. Data covering years 2001 to 2011 show that the presumption that share of women among scientists will grow when there is a steady increase in the proportion of women among students of universities is wrong. The Czech Republic has 50% women among people qualified for the research profession, but there is only 25.1% women among researchers in 2011.

Tenglerová, Hana
There have been no changes in the percentage of women researchers in the Czech Republic since 2001, which remains at 25 %. Compared to EU countries, the CR lags behind. Despite some activities that support women researchers, neither research institutions nor governmental bodies dealing with science policy apply gender mainstreaming. The publication contains statistics, gives information about current activities aimed at supporting gender equality and reflects stakeholders’ attitudes.
