Two the oldest Manuals of the reeve's office of the town of Nachod are in the focus of this diploma work. These municipal official books were collected between the years 1603-1632 and 1626-1636. The content of the books as well as their form represent very important source to the history of the municipal administration in the first half of the 17th century. The description of the external features of the Manuals of the reeve's office, typolgy of the written records and identification of the municipal scribes as individuals and finding out their positions in the municipal office organization is the main target of paleographic and diplomatic analysis. The Town book of Pacov from the 1475-1683
Holub, Pavel ; Ebelová, Ivana (advisor) ; Sulitková, Ludmila (referee)
6 Annotation The aim of the thesis is to introduce an urban book of Pacov in term of a diplomatic analysis. This urban book was established from the second half of 15 century to the second half of 17th century. The actual analysis of the registers is introduced by two sub-chapters. The first one is focused on the socio-politico-administrative development of the areas of Pelhřimov and Pacov during the late medieval and early modern period. The environment of Pacov is directly reflected in the section devoted to municipal laws, which aim is to put the content of privileges issued for Pacov to a broader social context. The sub-sections describing the outward signs of the urban book, an analysis of the registers from a diplomatic-content analysis point of view and the urban book in the context of the written production of the municipal office are the central part of the analysis of the urban book of Pacov. The groups sorting of different types of registers is based on the structure of municipal book as Ludmila Sulitková has applied to the urban environment of Brno books in the context of the urban book development in the Middle Ages. This classification is based on the results of a longtime research, whose origin can be associated with Václav Vojtíšek. The main consideration in the discussion of each register...
The Testamentary Practice in Jihlava in the Years 1578 - 1624 (Wills as Sources for the History of Family Structures, Historical Demography and Sociotopography)
Jirková, Pavla ; Maur, Eduard (advisor) ; Horský, Jan (referee) ; Sulitková, Ludmila (referee)
THESIS ABSTRACT The subject of the research - the Early Modern burgher will - is viewed in the thesis from the standpoint of family structures, historical demography and sociotopography. The sample of 968 Jihlava wills from the period 1578-1624 were subjected to statistical analysis. Moreover, from a methodological perspective the nature of this research is similar to micro-historical and prosopographical approaches. The aforementioned theme was compared to conclusions of the literature concerning historical demography and family structures (especially English) as well as foreign sociological and anthropological studies. The results of this research were evaluated from the point of view of the annual number of wills as possible indicators of the chief trends in mortality, and possible connections were traced between the number of children named in the testaments and the inheritance system. Given the numerous marriage contracts concluded by testators, the study also looked into the "marriage market" and the duration of marriages. Other questions discussed in the thesis include, for example, family and household positions, disabled people, gender studies and intergenerational property transfer. Finally, in terms of the sociotopographical study, the houses of sorted testators were located within the framework...

Mareš, Jan ; Žemlička, Josef (advisor) ; Bobková, Lenka (referee) ; Sulitková, Ludmila (referee)
The beginnings and propagation of the Magdeburg Law in the Czech lands in the Middle Ages are in the centre of attention of historical sciences since the second half of the 19th century. The period of great interest in this theme ends in the middle of the last cen tury and there i s a change in the direction of conservation of older knowledge. A detailed look on notorious development trends in connection with use of different types of sources can open new possibilities for efforts concerning deeper cognition of one of the most important components of the so called medieval transformation. The Magdeburg Law is a phenomenon transgressing borders of contemporary as well as medieval states in Centra!- and Eastern Europe, which is the reason to study it in the context of wider regions. Presented study incorporates three themes. The first chapter is dedicated to the analysis of the initial situation that existed in the thirteenth century in one of the most important cities of northwest Bohemia Litoměřice, the later head of a great family of cities of German town law. The starting point for an attempt to explore the Litoměřice law in the 13th century is a not preserved compilation of various legal regulations sent directly from Magdeburg to Litoměřice in 1282. This is a rare case in Czech lands, which could be...
Rokycany town administration and it's representatives between 1573-1699
Hrachová, Hana ; Hojda, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Sulitková, Ludmila (referee) ; Ledvinka, Václav (referee)
In the early modern age the town of Rokycany belonged to the smaller towns with an economy characterized by crafts and agriculture. In the 16th century the city started to bloom remarkably. Because of its loyalty shown to Ferdinand I, the town wasn't affected by the sanctions of that ruler, but was instead granted many privileges. In 1547 Rokycany became a free royal town. The above treatise discusses and follows the evolution of the town administration, the purpose of the single offices and its personnel. The most important administrative institution of the town was the municipal council with legislative, jurisdictional and executive powers. The town's economies and the administration of the town's property belonged also to the duties of the council. The municipal council counted twelve counsellors; its most prestigious member was called primate. Every counsellor was in charge of the government of the town for the period of one month, during this period he used the title of burgomaster. In the examined period of time, 19 men became primates and the majority of them kept the tile lifelong. Three men worked as imperial town magistrates In the period preceding the Battle of the White Mountain two primates managed with their eminence to reach fame also outside the town. That is Jan Novoměstský Srnovec from...

Tošnerová, Marie ; Bláhová, Marie (advisor) ; Ebelová, Ivana (referee) ; Sulitková, Ludmila (referee)
Early Modern Narrative Sources from Czech Towns Marie Tošnerová The aim of the PhD thesis is to collect information about preserved narrative sources relating to Czech towns from the pre-White Mountain period and attempt to classify and put them into historical context by means of analysis and comparison. The creation of various historiographical documents bears witness to the considerable popularity of history during the 16th and 17th century. The thesis is mainly focused on chronicles, preserved mostly as manuscripts, dealing with the past of Czech towns. The research touches on personal memoir records of particular burghers tangentially. The reason is that most of them only refer to their families. Facts about other historiographical sources of literary character were studied only if they were related to the town, where the other source of pre-White Mountain period exists. The subject of the study was 24 towns` chronicles of the pre-White Mountain Period. The sources were analysed in detail and compared to other sources from the same period, like official or non-official sources from the Czech territory and abroad (mainly German area). Attention was focused on these old documents from a historical sciences standpoint with an emphasis on origination and reception of sources, on their authors and...
