Creation of the Graphic Library for VST Plug-Ins
Dufka, Filip ; Kříž, Petr (referee) ; Přikryl, Lubor (advisor)
Master‘s thesis covers use of graphical user interface in audio plug-ins. In first part structure and rendering techniques of audio plug-ins graphical libraries are described. Their efficiency and their way of memory utilization is questioned. Next part puts these techniques in comparison with the state of the art methods used in computer graphics and gaming industry. Their possible use in audio graphical interafaces is analyzed. In the following part, thesis finds solutions to uneffective methods in frequently used situations by presenting deferred shading into audio parameter editor with the goal of photorealistic rendering. Second introduced technique of „Knob Normal Maps“ reduces number of images needed for rendering of turning knob from hundereds to six with comparable results. Goal of diploma thesis was to create graphical library. Graphical library with name RealBox was created, and introduced techniques are the core features. Library reduces work needed to achieve graphical user interfaces for 2D and 3D cases of use. Full class and method documentation for RealBox library was assembled. Library was tested during creation of three VST plugins, with different approaches and emphasis on quick work and fine rendering. Graphical library offers new, faster way of creating audio plug-in interfaces.
Synthesis of the musical audio signal using direct generation of harmonics
Ježek, Štěpán ; Mekyska, Jiří (referee) ; Přikryl, Lubor (advisor)
This thesis is focused on musical sound synthesis, in particular, the method of additive synthesis. The main goal is to implement a software musical instrument in the VST3 plug-in format, using the C++ programming language and the JUCE application framework. The final program offers spectral components editing capabilities and is able to morph between user-defined spectrum states in time. The introduction summarizes some common synthesis methods and their advantages or disadvantages. Next section deals with the technology used during the VST3 plug-in implementation and describes core parts that make up the final application. This analysis is focused mainly on the signal processing part, but there is also a brief description of the graphical user interface.
Analysis and comparison of spectra in different piano models
Peloušek, Tomáš ; Přikryl, Lubor (referee) ; Jirásek, Ondřej (advisor)
This work focuses on the topic of analysis of the time varying spektrum of the piano. The introduction deals with the historical development of the piano, of its individual parts and the way they influence the tone colour. The subsequent theoretical part is focused mainly on the topic of spectral analysis in the musical concept of sound colours. In the following part a measuring of particular musical instruments is described, these experiments being conducted in an anechoic chamber provided by the instrument producer. It also lists the various methods and calculations used in the process and the conclusion presents analysis of acquired samples.
Design and construction of MIDI interface for sensor strings
Korytář, Matěj ; Přikryl, Lubor (referee) ; Jirásek, Ondřej (advisor)
This work focuses on problematics of MIDI converter design and construction for cimbalom. There is briefly described acoustic musical instrument in terms of tone creation and construction. Further is discussed possibilities of string sensing or other ways to capture performance. In the following chapter is described MIDI protocol in terms of history, interface and types of transmitted messages. There is also said requirements for converter's chip and way to connect it. Further is described a method of converting signal from sensors and following coding to MIDI protocol including used program with detailed specifications. In conclusion is discussed several future extension.
Design of Algorithms of Digital Audio Processing for Simulation of Guitar Combo Based on Circuit Analysis of Analogue Prototypes
Mačák, Jaromír ; Přikryl, Lubor (referee) ; Schimmel, Jiří (advisor)
This work deals with computer simulation of a guitar combo. The complete simulation is divided into separate blocks and then transfer characteristics and frequency responses of each block are obtained from a circuit analysis of analogue prototype. After their aproximation, the transfer characteristics are implemented as waveshapers and frequency responses are simulated using digital filters designed according to their analogue prototypes. Designed algorithms are implemented as plug-in mudule in language C++.
Analysing Tool for Generating of Drum Triggers from Downmix Record
Konzal, Jan ; Mucha, Ján (referee) ; Přikryl, Lubor (advisor)
This thesis deals with the design and implementation of a tool for generating drums triggers from a downmix record. The work describes the preprocessing of the input audio signal and methods for the classification of strokes. The drum classification is based on the similarity of the signals in the frequency domain. Principal component analysis (PCA) was used to reduce the number of dimensions and to find the characteristic properties of the input data. The method support vector machine (SVM) was used to classify the data into individual classes representing parts of the drum kit. The software was programmed in Matlab. The classification model was trained on a set of 728 drum samples for seven categories (kick, snare, hi-hat, crash, ride, kick + hi-hat, snare + hi-hat). The success of the system in the classification is 75 %.
The software sampler with sounds of of the dulcimer
Bičan, Jan ; Přikryl, Lubor (referee) ; Jirásek, Ondřej (advisor)
Major aim of this thesis is to create VST plugin module, which would be an output part of electronic cimbalom (dulcimer). Thesis explains basic terms at first, such as sampler, cimbalom, VST, MIDI, microphones and microphone techniques for recording. Then it describes particular segments of creating a software sampler with cimbalom samples. That includes recording each of individual cimbalom tones, sorting and editing these samples and implementing to VST technology. Thesis also describes instrument’s difficulties and differences from other related plugin modules and offers solution. There is a thesis’s assessment at the end of the document, where is mentioned its progress, testing with hardware components of electronic cimbalom and its imperfections with suggestions of future improvement.
Implementation of digital metronome with oversampling in VST technology
Křupka, Aleš ; Přikryl, Lubor (referee) ; Mačák, Jaromír (advisor)
This bachelor’s thesis presents solution to requirement of implementation of digital metronome in VST technology. In the beginning, there is analysis of basic characteristics of digital metronome, that helps to suggest algorithm realizing digital metronome. Algorithm is encapsulated into C++ class with appropriate interface, which is suitable for usage in different technologies of digital sound signal processing. This way encapsulated metronome is implemented in VST technology as plug-in. For this reason, thesis contains a brief introduction to VST software development kit, definitions of its basic methods and way how to do graphical user interface of VST plug-in. For realizing of function enabling choice of any sound loaded from wav file, there is a description of RIFF format, that specifies the format of saving multimedia data into drive. Using this knowledge, the function of loading from wav file is implemented. In order to adjust sampling frequency of loaded sound, thesis deals with problems of sample rate conversion and implements resampling function.
Analysis of Spectral Density and Directional Radiation of Baroque, Modern, and Plastic Trombone
Cibuľa, Marek ; Přikryl, Lubor (referee) ; Jirásek, Ondřej (advisor)
This thesis is focused on spectral and directivity analysis of three types of trombones - baroque, modern and plastic and their experimental measurement. It describes the way of a measurement realization with microphone field used for recording and technical realization of signal processing. It discusses relationships between material, mechanical dimensions and final timbre of sound.
Analysis and Implementation of Methods for Measuring Characteristics of Linear and Nonlinear Systems
Tichá, Jarmila ; Kaňka, Jan (referee) ; Přikryl, Lubor (advisor)
This work deals with methods of measuring characteristics of linear and nonlinear systems. The application created in Python language performs pulse and frequency response measurements on linear systems. For nonlinear systems, it determines the total value of harmonic distortion THD. The application allows to measure external audio devices connected via ASIO audio interface.
