Securitization and financial crisis 2007-2009
Buev, Philipp ; Šíma, Ondřej (advisor) ; Obešlo, František (referee)
The aim of this bachelor´s work is to acquaint the reader with the issues of securitization, its specificity, its products and its role in the financial crisis 2007-2009, the work also aims to show why the long-terms risks associated with CDOs and MBS have been underestimated. The objectives and reasons for securitization are also described in this work. Attention is focused primarily on the US financial system due to the uniqueness of the US economy and also because the securitization has begun in the USA. In addition, the work examines the causes of the financial crisis 2007-2009, the importance of the credit rating agencies in the securitization process. This bachelor´s thesis analyzes in detail CDOs and MBS, the process of their creation and their relation to the financial crisis 2007-2009.
Changes in the financial sector and their impact on economic development
Čigášová, Patrícia ; Šíma, Ondřej (advisor) ; Obešlo, František (referee)
The bachelor thesis consists of two chapters in which it describes the global financial crisis in connection with theory of division of economy into financial and real sector, and studies possible channels that could transmit problems between them. While analyzing the changes that have occurred in the last period and which contributed to larger spillover of the problems, a fact of developing extensive financial sector emerges. There are many cases of countries that have been extremely dependent on it, therefore little diversified, which could cause high volatility of consumption, GDP etc., since these indicators mirror movements of financial markets. These facts are related to the origin of offshore financial centers, which are also discussed in the thesis. Moreover, there is examined an issue of growth in banks´ assets and excessive providing of credit that leads to larger indebtedness of households. Rise of household debt has been still continuing even after the end of crisis, and is usually connected not only with financial deepening in emerging economies, but also with negative impact on future economic growth. Liabilities of financial institutions consist of high amount of wholesale funds, which resulted in growth of liquidity and systemic risk.
Importance and development of Chienese renminbi ceonvertibility
Mádle, Miroslav ; Brůna, Karel (advisor) ; Obešlo, František (referee)
The subject of this diploma thesis is the analysis of the importance and development of Chinese renminbi convertibility. The paper describes the development of the yuan exchange rate, whose value is still largely decided by the PBOC. It also seeks to identify the growing role of the renminbi on the international scene despite its financial account that is still not completely liberalized. Last but not least, the Chinese trilemma is described here, with the renminbi convertibility being an integral part of this issue. Once China decides to solve the trilemma, one of the possible outcomes is the full renminbi convertibility. The paper also tries to identify the possible impacts that would occur in the event of the full renminbi convertibility.
Analysis of the development of the exchange rate on the basis of uncovered interest rate parity
Macháček, Marek ; Mandel, Martin (advisor) ; Obešlo, František (referee)
The aim of this diploma thesis is based on the empirical analysis to identify the relationship between the exchange rate and the interest rates in selected countries and verify the validity of the uncovered interest rate parity. In the first part, the author deals with basic theoretical and exchange rate determinants from a fundamental analysis point of view, which attempts to explain the causality between these two variables. The actual analysis was performed at three levels on monthly time series from 2010 to 2016. Graphical analysis was selected as the first stage of the analysis, also including verification of the validity of the Fisher International Effect. Later, regression and vector autoregressive analysis followed. However, the conclusions of the individual empirical parts show that the exchange rate is determined by many factors, not only by the interest rate differential, as assumed the theory of uncovered interest rate parity. These results are also related to the low quality of the estimated models. Uncovered interest rate parity has been confirmed in very few cases, but none of the monitored currency pairs has been validated at all three levels of empirical analysis at the same time. The work offers valuable insight into the trend appreciation or depreciation of the exchange rates at the positive interest rate differential in the selected period.
Liquidity management of banks and other financial institutions
Hanzálek, Michal ; Brůna, Karel (advisor) ; Obešlo, František (referee)
Diploma thesis focuses on liquidity risk management of commercial banks in the Czech banking market in 2002-2015. This main goal is achieved through a comprehensive analysis within a framework that uses several different methods. A theoretical framework for bank liquidity management is drawn up for a theoretical evaluation, summary of the current literature and a summary of the regulatory framework including the newly introduced Basel III requirements and indicators is put together. The research part is focused on assessing the development and current state of liquidity of Czech banks by analyzing of liquidity ratios and regression analysis of panel data. The level of liquidity and the size of the liquid pillow is judged to be sufficient and stable from the results of the individual analyses. The net position of Czech banks on the interbank market on an international scale also reflects a good level of liquidity. The major determinants of Czech bank liquidity in the period under review were mainly capital adequacy, bank size, loan portfolio quality, growth rate of GDP and interest rates.
Mutual link between the monetary and exchange rate policy and economic development on the example of Romania and Bulgaria
Mleziva, Daniel ; Brůna, Karel (advisor) ; Obešlo, František (referee)
This bachelor's thesis focuses on the possible link between the monetary and exchange rate policy and economic development. The first part presents basic theoretical aspects of monetary and exchange rate policies which are then applied to the case of two selected countries, namely Romania and Bulgaria. The practical part analyses the evolution of monetary and exchange rate policies in both countries and also follows the development of both economies with the help of several indicators. The objective of the thesis is to describe a possible dependence of the economy's evolution on monetary policy regime using the evaluation and comparison of collected data.
Export and Import functions (Empirical analysis on the example of the Czech Republic)
Obešlo, František ; Mandel, Martin (advisor) ; Tran, Van Quang (referee)
This work focuses on import and export of goods of the Czech Republic. The Czech Republic is very open country in European Union. Ratio of import and export of goods and services to GDP is above European Union average. The goal is to find explaining variables, which has an influence on import and export of goods and to create robust and economically interpretable models. Models are created by cointegration analysis. The advantage of cointegration analysis and error correction models is avoiding spurious regression and differentiation of short-term and long-term relations. There will be used two attitudes for creation of models: with help of ADL models and Johansen method, which serve to comparison of results. There is a space for test of influence of exchange rate shocks on import and export of goods in the end.
