Suicide Attacks in the Middle East

This thesis examines the problem of suicide attacks in the Middle East. It points to a lack of unity in definition and the difficulty of conceptualizing terrorism, while at the same time presenting a potential typology with emphasis placed on so-called religious terrorism and the historical phases of subversive terrorism, including the development of suicide terrorism on the territory of the Middle East. Specific attention is paid to the suicide attacks carried out during the civil war in Lebanon and the Amal and Hizballáh movements. Furthermore, the thesis addresses the relationship between Islam and terrorism; emphasis is put on the diversity of the world of Islam in examples of trends and movements in contemporary Islam, whereas extra attention is paid to clarifying the terms "fundamentalism" and "Islamism". Light is shed on the problems surrounding authority in Islam, and an attempt is made to explain the role of the clergy. Martyrdom is taken into consideration - the various perceptions of suicide and martyr acts are laid out. The psychological dimensions of terrorism as they pertain to individual culprits of terrorist acts are also given due consideration. Peak religious experiences and question of psychopatology

The diploma work reflects the different attitudes to evaluation of extraordinary religions experiences. The objective is to compare different ways of comprehension and evaluation of extraordinary religious experiences and thereby provide suggestions for further consideration of these experiences with a view to pathology and normality. In the theoretical part firstly the general term of the religious experience is determined further the definition of the extraordinary religious experiences follows. Using the example of three types of different religious experiences the psychological, psychiatric and religious attitudes are compared. Further two general attitudes to the extraordinary religious experiences are compared form the point of view of pathology and normality. The conclusion of the theoretical part offers suggestions for consideration of extraordinary religious experiences. The practical part, based on the qualitative research, surveys the experiences of five persons that went through an extraordinary religious experience which is considered by them as religious or spiritual. Religious Interpretation of Psychotic Illness. How do Christian orientated patients understand their illness?

This thesis deals with religious interpretations of psychotic illness. In the theoretical part, the psychotic disorder is first briefly defined and several stimulating psychological interpretations are outlined. An overview of the history of the relationship of psychology and religion follows. The next chapter summarizes some religious interpretations of psychosis. The focus of the work is on the research part. It is a psychological qualitative research, which shows how three Christian-oriented mentally ill women with psychotic symptoms interpret their own illness. The case studies are then compared in a separate chapter, entailing a slight generalization of the results. At the end there is a reflection on the limitations of the research.

"How are you" The Philosophy of the Principles of life and its contribution to the lives of students

This thesis examines the impact of philosophical system Principles of Life® on lives of its students. Theoretical part begins with introducing this philosophical system by its self- presentation and after that it is confronted with sociological literature. Philosophical system Principles of Life is regarded as non-theistic form of spirituality focused on development of human potential so it is perceived together with Human Potential Movement. New spiritual movements generally use some elements of psychotherapy. Therefore system Principles of Life was examined by Rican whether it uses some of common elements of psychotherapy and spirituality. Thesis also works with Roof's concept of "seeking " and "dwelling" and spiritual feminism concept. By means of qualitative research and interviewing its students, thesis observes how does this philosophy influence their life.

North American Native Religions as an Ispiration for the Educational Process

This diploma thesis deals with the study of selected principles of the spirituality of North American Indians, which it see as inspiration for the education and personal development. The theoretical part examines the basic aspects of Native American spirituality and lifestyle as part of the phenomenon called Indianism. It also takes into account the issue of the origin and development of the popularity of Indianism in our territory and its practical forms in the Euro- Indian movements. Particular attention is paid to the woodcraft movement and its educational dimension. The practical part contains research on the spiritual and educational practice of Indianism in woodcraft. The research is based on the analysis of semi-structured interviews with selected woodcrafters who have undergone this education or apply it to the education of new generations. The results of the research confirmed the living practice of Native American spiritual and educational ideas in wodcraft. This reveals the practice of Indianism in our territory, which is devoted by individuals living in the otherwise normal cultural conditions of our world.
