Energetics in the EU: economic analysis of energy from nuclear and renewable sources after 2011
Vomáčka, Roman ; Loužek, Marek (advisor) ; Louda, Jiří (referee)
In the context of the fight against global warming, the European Union decided to lead by example and show the rest of the World that is possible to conduct sustainable environmental policy in practice. For this purpose mass support for renewable energy and effort to reduce the importance of nuclear energy were introduced. Germany went with this policy the furthest. Their geographical location and size of the market affects the whole Central European region and thus the Czech Republic. This paper primarily attempts analyze ways to support renewable energy sources and nuclear power in the EU with a closer focus on the Czech Republic and their impact on the energy market. This paper analyzes the impact of RES support and development in near future. The conclusion proposed by the paper is that the current policy of the EU in the energy sector rather causes destabilization of the entire energy network and the associated risks.
The current energy policy of the European Union and the Czech Republic. Are we on the path towards sustainable energy development?
Bína, Milan ; Hladík, Miroslav (advisor) ; Louda, Jiří (referee)
The aim of this work is a study of the current energy policy of the European Union. Current issues such as energy security and independence, increasing savings and reducing greenhouse gas emissions are particularly analyzed. EU has chosen a gradual transition to renewable energy sources as a possible solution for these problematic areas. This very process and its impact on the economy are also the subjects of this study. Energetics itself is a complex and difficult discipline, theoretical part, therefore, serves as the demarcation of the issue and specifically states the chosen direction of this work. It defines the important concepts, which are sustainable development and energy policy. In this part, I introduce the reader to my point of view and set individual targets whose solutions I expect in relation with the EU. The practical part is devoted to prove the validity of the main hypothesis. I have reached the conclusion that the EU really substitutes more and more fossil fuels with the alternative ones which is according to the set priorities of the energy safety and environmental protection the path towards sustainable energy development. I have chosen the analysis of macroeconomics indicators of unemployement and GDP to verify the statement that the developement of the renewable sources has a positive impact on the economy. However, according to the achievements, the sector of renewable energy sources has not a very strong influence to be able to affect significantly the monitored indicators in a long run. The conclusion of the practical part is devoted to the analysis of the energetic concept in the Czech Republic, identification of the main priorities and analysis of the position of the Czech Republic within the energy policy across the European Union.
Game theory in the current flood protection
Pokorná, Veronika ; Macháč, Jan (advisor) ; Louda, Jiří (referee)
In recent years a considerable attention has been devoted to flood protection measures because of great damages caused by floods. While planning measures the consideration is based on costs and benefits associated with their implementation, i.e. the application of cost-benefit analysis (CBA). In most cases the relation of upstream and downstream in river catchments is neglected, therefore in the practice a potential for a retention of upstream remains unused. This bachelor thesis deals with a projection of this upstream/downstream relation into the current flood protection. Mathematic method of the game theory is used for the analysis of the optimal allocation of flood protection measures between the upstream/downstream areas. The upstream/downstream relation is defined by the specific assumptions and conditions. On the basis of these specific assumptions and conditions a payoff 2x2 matrix is modelled. The thesis constructs individual scenarios of mutual positions of these two parts. Possible outcomes are analysed by using game theory, while taking into account liability for damages, negotiation options and transaction costs. Presented results of individual scenarios indicate that the game theory is a suitable tool for the assessment of an optimal allocation of flood protection measures and its application in practice is appropriate in conjunction with other tools.
Analysis bike-sharing usability in the capital city Prague
Steinbachová, Dominika ; Louda, Jiří (advisor) ; Sunega, Petr (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to analyse a bike-sharing in Prague, especially its usability and future potential. The thesis answers questions whether a bike-sharing can prosper in Prague and if so whether it can contribute to the solution of a problematic traffic situation. In a theoretical part of the thesis there are firstly described concepts of economics theories which are closely related with the concept of bike-sharing. The thesis also characterises fields of the collaborative economy, collaborative consumption and the model of sharing economy. There are introduced definitions of basic concepts and principles on which the sharing economy is based. In the beginning of the practical part it is performed a comparison of chosen cities from all around the world in which the bike-sharing is operated. Individual cities are compared based on collected statistical data and by DEA models. In an analysis of the potential of the bike -sharing in Prague it is performed a quantitative comparison of alternative transport options - bike, car and public transport. Using the collected data and several hypotheses, the means and variances (which can also play in significant role when selecting the optimal transport option) are compared. Outputs of these analyses are appropriately confronted with economic costs of alternatives and the result is a complex insight into the problem of choosing a travel option. The analysis shows that the bike-sharing may be more favourable than a public transportation under certain conditions. Analysis shows that we cannot expect such an expansion of bike-sharing, which can be seen lately in some cities abroad. It can be supposed that if Rekola or another subject minimalized current weaknesses, the bike-sharing in Prague may experience a significant popularity and growth. As regards a potential of the bike-sharing to contribute to solve the traffic load in Prague it can be expected almost zero effect. Even in cities where the bike-sharing is fully developed it forms maximally unit's percent of traffic mix. Its influence in Prague will probably never be noticeable.
Analysis of the impact of environmental tax introduction on the age of the vehicle fleet in the Czech Republic after 2009
Čamek, Michal ; Štípek, Vladimír (advisor) ; Louda, Jiří (referee)
The aim of this bachelor thesis is to analyse the impact of the introduction of fees charged for registration transfers of specific cars on their number listed in the central register of vehicles. This topic has been chosen with regard to the current tendencies in the transport industry. These trends have undoubtedly an impact on the economy as a whole. The thesis analyses the reasons leading to the introduction of this fee and also describes the relevant factors having the real impact in practice. This thesis provides a clear overview of the success rate of mentioned governmental strategy, which is evaluated among other things by the decrease in the number of vehicles in the central register.
Air pollution - invisible threat?
Šitinová, Kristina ; Zajíček, Miroslav (advisor) ; Louda, Jiří (referee)
This paper examines the influence of air pollution on humans. Suggesting the possible consequences of each action of air pollutants on human health but also the possible economic impacts of air pollution. It primarily exploers the effects of concentration of suspended particulate matter (PM10) on the incidence of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The response variable in the regression model serves to determine the effect of PM10 on the incidence of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease was a percentage share of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease among the clients of the General Health Insurance Company in individual regions of the Czech Republic. Explanatory variables were the mean annual concentration of PM10 and gross added value per capita. The model suggests that there is a statistically significant positive correlation between the incidence of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in the Czech Republic and PM10 concentrations.
Economical and institutional analysis of biodiversity conservation provided by private sector in the Czech Republic
Marek, Tomáš ; Louda, Jiří (advisor) ; Kalabisová, Jana (referee)
The diploma thesis identifies the motivation of the land trusts in the Czech Republic and analyses the institutional environment, in which they work. Furthermore, it defines the factors influencing the activity and efficiency of the private land conservation and explores its relationship with the biodiversity conservation provided by the public sector. The method used is an analytical narrative consisting of the combination of oral narration and socio-economic analytical methods. Interviews with selected land trusts managers were carried out and original case studies were created. As emerged from the analysis, land trusts are created in order to complete the state biodiversity conservation, upon which they are dependent mainly as far as money is concerned. The land trusts have most of the areas in a long-term tenancy. They do not have enough money to buy the areas. This is also proved by the shortage in business activities in comparison with foreign countries. The situation of private conservation abroad was examined as well and compared with the situation in this country. The main contribution of this diploma thesis is the fact that it creates the overview of private biodiversity conservation in the Czech Republic and abroad as one of the first thesis.

Mužíková, Hana ; Louda, Jiří (advisor) ; Malý, Vítězslav (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to indentify the determinants which influence households in selection of type of heating. The survey realized as a structured personal interview with the representatives of 70 households in Mělník -- Chloumek area, provides the information about the factors influencing respondents in selection of type of heating. Through multiple regression analysis was proved that the main factors are age, level of education, household income in total and size of dwelling. However these predictors are statistically quite insignificant. For more significant results it should be analyzed larger dataset.
Analysis of factors affecting the selection of species fuel in domestic heating in Libeř and its surroundings
Matějka, Tomáš ; Louda, Jiří (advisor) ; Malý, Vítězslav (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to analyze the factors that influence people's decisions when selecting the type of fuel in domestic heating in a particular area. Air pollution causes local furnace negative health and economic impacts. With 50 personal structured interviews conducted research in Libeř and its surroundings. These findings indicate the influence of financial savings as an important factor in the decision of the respondents, while environmental responsibility does not appear to be a significant factor influencing the decision of the respondents. The nature of the problem depends on several interacting factors. For a credible identification of factors would need larger population of people.
