The focus of this bachelor thesis is focused on the settlement of Karlovarsko during the later Middle Ages (13.-15. century). These data complement the outline of local archeological chronology. Archeological digsites from various social enviroments, which bore findings with a particular degree of information value, were presented in order to illustrate a more complete image of the issue at hand. Furthermore the fundamental objective of this work was to understand the transformation of settlement and the process of colonization. Keywords: West Bohemia; Karlovy Vary; settlement; medieval archaeology; settlement history; castles and fortified manors; pottery; Middle Ages; 1200-1500
Development of medieval settlement in the hinterland of stronghold in Praha-Vinoř
Kapic, Matyáš ; Štefan, Ivo (advisor) ; Hasil, Jan (referee)
(in English): The main aim of the presented thesis is to reconstruct the early medieval settlement in the vicinity of the Prague-Vinoř stronghold in as much details as possible and to describe its relation to this central locality. In addition, issues of the general character of this historical landscape are discussed, such as the spatial relationship between the settlement and funeral areas or the stabilization of the settlement network. The work was based on very diverse sources consisting of two phases of large-scale surface prospection and small-scale destructive researches. The obtained data differed greatly in their character, spatial distribution, and reliability, which led to the need to create a model that would allow their interconnection. According to it, specific settlements and burial grounds were defined, which became the basis for solving the issues described above.

PhDr. Zdeněk Beneš, CSc. Abstract: The dissertation thesis intends to affect changes within the studies of medieval settlement in context with Czech historiography. It focuses on the relationship between the character of historiographical discourse and applied methods of research. The subject of relational analysis is both linguistic branches of Bohemian historiography. Changes in the specific field discourse are observed against the background of changes in Bohemian historical culture. Thus, the ways of multiplication of historical knowledge and the connection to the socio-political, cultural and institutional context of the observed issues are also monitored. The work mainly takes into account the territory of the wider historical Cheb region, which is used as a model example of changes in historical questioning depending on changes in historical awareness and social context of the time. Antropogenic landforms identification and analysis of their relation to medieval castles
Sýkora, Martin ; Hasil, Jan (advisor) ; Klír, Tomáš (referee)
This Thesis focuses on the anthropogenic geomorphology in the vicinity of eight selected castles in the Bohemia region. The first part of study gathers information about already known archaeological features in the castle areas or hinterland. The first step of the survey uses LIDAR data combined with both historical and contemporary maps. Next, a surface survey helped to prove the existence of selected archaeological features, mark their location and get their written description and photographic documentation. Thanks to the information collected this way, we can possibly interpret former use of the features, as well as their origins in relation to the existence of the castle itself. The last part evaluates efficiency of the used method and reflects of the state of the examined castles areas and surroundings. Key-words: Medieval archaeology - Non-destructive methods - LIDAR - Castles - Anthropogenic landforms

Hasil, Jan ; Klír, Tomáš (advisor) ; Losert, Hans (referee) ; Kalhous, David (referee)
262 EARLY MEDIEVAL CULTURAL CONTACTS BETWEEN BAVARIA AND BOHEMIA The Ph.D. thesis focusing on the topic of Czech-Bavarian cultural contacts in the Early Middle Ages was assigned in 2010 to develop the author's MA thesis, which was conceived as a probe into sources and a program study699 as well in order to form the first comprehensive monograph of this date of these professionally and regionally fragmented issues. In those times, the assignment of the thesis assumed "to decide whether there is an objective historical significance of this concept, or whether (and how) the meaning of this term has shifted in time, and how should this legacy be treated in the prepared thesis." Furthermore, five material-oriented topics were defined in order to test the overall theoretical concept on parts of otherwise too broadly conceived sources: (i) a study focusing on interpretative possibilities of langsaxes in the context of Early Medieval row- grave cemeteries; (ii) an attempt to narrow the regionalization of the s-shaped temple rings occurrence in connection with the settlement context; (iii) revision of archaeological evidence from the Cheb (Eger) castle; (iv) a chapter focusing on the issue of Early Medieval elites in north-eastern Bavaria; and finally (v) a discussions on the current concepts of toponomastic...
