RNDr. Ilja Turek, DrSc., Department of Condensed Matter Physics Abstract: We review the density-functional theory (DFT) in detail using the Levy Lieb ap- proach. The Kohn Sham scheme is discussed, starting from the simplest spinless non- relativistic case, then including spin and considering potential spin magnetism, and finally deriv- ing the full Kohn Sham Dirac relativistic scheme. The Linear Muffin-Tin Orbital (LMTO) method for electronic-structure calculation is presented, together with mentioning the necessary changes to include the spin-orbit (SO) interaction effects to an otherwise scalar-relativistic (SR) theory. Derivation of an electronic-conductance formula for a layered system is given, based on the Landauer scattering picture and using simple non-equilibrium Green functions. The formal- ism is applied to layered metallic systems of light elements Co, Ni, Cu elements, and to layered systems with a tunnelling barrier, Fe/MgO/Ag and Fe/GaAs/Ag. The effects of the SO interac- tion on the Giant Magnetoresistance (GMR) ratio and/or the Tunnelling Anisotropy Magnetore- sistance (TAMR) for these systems are discussed....

The background of the Russo-Chechen conflict

V prosinci 1994 ruská vojska zaútočila na Čečensko. První pokus o pokoření odbojné země ještě úspěšný nebyl a vyčerpanému Rusku nezbylo než v srpnu 1996 podepsat potupné příměří v Chasavjurtu. Nová válka se rozhořela na podzim 1999 a Rusko v ní po úporné snaze triumfovalo, i když partyzánské boje probíhají vlastně dosud. Celkově během obou válek zemřelo více než 100 tisíc Čečenců, většinou civilistů, a velká část infrastruktury země lehla popelem. Z lidského hlediska to je nepochybně strašná tragédie. Z toho historického jde jen o poslední pokračování více než dvousetletého krvavého zápasu Čečenců s moskevským impériem. Úkolem předkládané práce je najít odpověd' na otázku, proč se Čečensko jako jediné ze všech bývalých autonomních republik RSFSR dostalo do přímého válečného střetu s Moskvou. Už z podstaty historické práce plyne, že taková odpověď může být subjektivní a nejednoznačná. Autor práce chce proto zvážit a zevrubně popsat všec1my důležité faktory, které mohly tento vývoj způsobit a nechat na případném čtenáři, aby si ze shromážděných faktů vyvodil vlastní závěr.

Influence of a weak electron correlation on electron properties of disordered condensed systems

Mean-field theory for disordered systems of correlated electrons is constructed, where correlations caused by Hubbard's interaction are included in the Hartree aproximation. This theory is then used to describe influence of electron correlations on density of states and also to describe impact of disorder on a phase diagram of ferromagnetic order. Further the theory is used to obtain a two-particle vertex. Influence of a strength of electron correlations on analycity and behaviour of the two-particle vertex is studied.
