The goal of this work to examine the influnce of solid particles on homogeneous regime stability and regime transition in a three phase bubble column. For that, two studies were done, one focused on the regime transition and the other on visualization of bubble-particle interaction.

The experimental data show that low viscosity can stabilize the homogeneous bubbling regime whereas moderate viscosities supress formation of homogeneous bubbling regime above a certain critical value of the viscosity. The dependence of critical gas holdup on viscosity of the solution exhibits a maximum at low values of viscosity.
