Lenz, Patrik ; Burcin, Boris (advisor) ; Velková, Alice (referee)
Regional comparative analysis of mortality from selected diseases in Czechia and Sweden during the period 2001-2015 Abstract The aim of this thesis is analysis of the regional population mortality development due to two the most frequent groups causes of death related to the both sexes in Czechia and Sweden during the period 2001-2015. Standardized mortality rate is used for the assessment of mortality development in the monitored period. Two the most frequent causes of death for both sexes during the period 2001-2015 in Czechia and Sweden were cardiovascular diseases and neoplasms, which represented over half majority of all death causes. There was a significant mortality rate decline in case of both sexes in Czechia compared to Sweden in the reviewed period, however the standardized mortality rates were lower in the whole monitored period in Sweden. The most significant mortality rates decrease for both sexes in Czechia and Sweden was reported in case of cardiovascular diseases. Larger interregional mortality differences due to malignant neoplasms and cardiovascular diseases were registered in Czechia. In both countries, regional mortality differentiation due to cardiovascular diseases was higher in case of males in contrast to mortality caused by malignant neoplasms which was higher for females. Analysis of mortality from selected respiratory diseases in the Czech Republic in the 1994-2014 period
Vančurová, Mariana ; Hulíková Tesárková, Klára (advisor) ; Burcin, Boris (referee)
The main objective of this thesis was to analyse the development of mortality from selected respiratory diseases in the Czech Republic in the 1994-2014 period. Selected respiratory diseases were defined due to common characteristics, risk factors and mutual effects on each other and they are lung cancer, pneumonia and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The first part of the thesis contains the definition of studied diseases, their risk factors, incidences and general trends of mortality from selected causes of death. The second part is devoted to the development of mortality from selected respiratory diseases regarding sex, age and seasonal effect. The methods for calculating in the analytical part were standardized mortality rate, two-dimensional decomposition and decomposition of the time series. The results showed different development of mortality from selected diseases between men and women and age distribution in consequence of the mortality from selected respiratory diseases. In terms of seasonal mortality, there was an effect found on pneumonia and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Vondrášek, Martin ; Burcin, Boris (advisor) ; Hulíková Tesárková, Klára (referee)
Development of regional variations in suicide mortality in the Czech Republic in the period 1994-2013 Abstract The purpose of this bachelor thesis was to identify the development of regional variations in suicide mortality in the Czech Republic in the period 1994-2013. In view of the fact that the level of suicide mortality is different between genders, was the analysis carried out individually for each sex. The level of suicide mortality was researched through age-standardized suicide mortality rates, index of masculinity of suicides and rate of selfmurderers who chose hanging, strangulation or asphyxiation. These indicators enabled a regional comparison, which total results indicate the decrease of the age-standardized suicide mortality in the Czech Republic against the level in the second half of the nineties. However, it increased in some particular regions. Keywords: Czech Republic, mortality, suicides, suicide methods, suicidial tendence, regional analysis

Bedřichová, Eva ; Burcin, Boris (advisor) ; Hulíková Tesárková, Klára (referee)
Development of regional differentiation of avoidable mortality in the Czech Republic Abstract The main goal of the thesis is the evaluation of development of avoidable mortality in the Czech Republic during 1994-2012. According to concept of avoidable mortality there are two main categories which differ among the authors in terms of selection of avoidable causes of deaths. Indicators based on category of preventable mortality show efficiency of prevention, indicators based on category of treatable mortality correspond with quality of health care and health policies. The intention is to compare a development of avoidable mortality from three different aspects using three different lists of causes of avoidable deaths focusing on regional differentiation. Results of the thesis indicate that the intensity of avoidable mortality was declining during 1994-2012 in all the regions. The level of this mortality differed depending on a list of avoidable causes of deaths and also among districts. Keywords: avoidable mortality, treatable mortality, preventable mortality, causes of death, regional differentiation, Czech Republic
Regional differentiation of cause-specific mortality in selected countries of Central Europe
Domonkos, Zsolt ; Burcin, Boris (advisor) ; Hulíková Tesárková, Klára (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to analyse the differentiation in mortality rates at the international and regional level (NUTS 2) in selected countries of Central Europe (Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Germany, Austria, Switzerland). At the country level, it examines the development of total mortality and cause- specific mortality since 1990. At the regional level, it evaluates the regional differences in total mortality and cause-specific mortality in the period 2008-2010. The thesis makes use of demographic indices (life expectancy, dispersion measure of mortality, lifespan disparity, standardised death rate) and tools of statistical analysis (Poisson regression, cluster analysis). The analysis reveals that mortality rates have decreased in Central European countries, although significant differences in the intensity of mortality can still be observed at the international as well as regional level. Horník, Vojtěch ; Hulíková Tesárková, Klára (advisor) ; Burcin, Boris (referee)
Comparison of mortality trends in Central Europe and Baltic countries from 1970 to the present Abstract The aim of this thesis is to assess the most important mortality trends development in countries of Central Europe and Baltic region between 1970 and 2009. The measures used involve life expectancy at birth and life expectancy at the age of 65; besides of this, the age-specific contributions to life expectancy changes are computed according to the method of R. Pressat. The convergence and divergence tendencies among the analyzed countries and between the two regions are evaluated in this thesis as well. Main findings are, on one hand, that mortality trends are relatively similar within each of the regions. When comparing regions between each other, however, significant differences, mostly in the period between mid-1980s and mid-1990s, arise, they are attributed mostly to the influence of mortality crisis in Baltic region after the Soviet Union dissolution. Even though after 1994 mortality development was favourable in Baltic countries, they did not reach mortality level of Central Europe until 2009.
