Factors influencing relations between the German language and high school students

The thesis deals with factors which could influence a relation between high school students and German language. It surveys factors influencing the choice to study German as foreign language and also factors affecting their relationship with the subject. One of the topics is a classification of German in the language system and describing forms of its occurrence. Between the particular factors impacting a decision which language should be studied is for example the possibility to utilize this language in a future career or living in the German speaking countries included. It also delves into the influence of the common history between Czechs and Germans. The student can be affected by a teacher, not only in the positive, but also in the negative way during their school years. The thesis also studies how the difficulty of the German language impacts its learning process and compares the effects to English. These two languages are also compared at the primary school and high school levels, while the focus is primarily on the length of the schooling and the achieved language level. The diploma thesis Forms of internal differentiation and their application in the textbook set Berliner Platz Neu 1 deals with internal differentiation in the chosen textbook set for German as a foreign language. The thesis is devided into a theoretical and a practical part. In the theoretical part, attention is given to the importance of internal differentiation as one of the possible solution to the heterogeneity in the classroom. The thesis focuses on four main forms of internal differentiation - the methodological, social, methodical and work- organizational differentiation. Each form is further divided into subcategories which are described in details. The practical part is devoted to the actual research. Firstly, it presents theoretically the textbook set Berliner Platz Neu 1, its authors and its parts. The textbook set consist of a textbook combined with an exercise book, an additional exercise book, a teśt book and a teacher's book. The textbook set is analysed according to given criteria for didactic and social differentiation. Viability of Using Erstlesebuch in Classes Teaching German as a Foreign Language

The diploma thesis deals with the book genre Erstlesebuch (book for beginner readers) as educational material in the context of foreign language education at the levels of Basic Users (A0/1-A2). In the context of first language teaching, this specific genre belongs to the field of literature, the didactic of literature, and the didactic of reading. The goal of this diploma thesis is to present different possibilities of didactic activities with Erstlesebuch in the context of second language teaching and to formulate criteria for choosing an appropriate text. The theoretical part describes the context of foreign language education and the role of literature in this context, with consideration for the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. The theoretical part also presents the specifics of the book genre Erstlesebuch itself. The empirical part of this thesis is based on several investigations: firstly on a complex analysis (readability and text structure) of six Erstlesebuch and secondly on empirical research in reading with schoolchildren at higher grades of an elementary school (children at the age of 13-15). Using games in teaching German with focus on development of writing skills

The thesis deals with possible progress in writing in German of students at secondary schools by the use of didactic games. The theoretical part sets writing in context of language didactics and describes its significant aspects such as development, functions, and contribution to teaching a foreign language. It also focuses on conception of writing in the school educational plan of secondary school, at which the research was done. Then, it introduces games as a possible activating teaching method aimed at development of writing and describes their evaluation, roles of teacher, purpose, and classification. The practical part is devoted to the actual research. Firstly, it depicts writing games that are divided into three parts - preparing, building, and structuring, and designed to gradually develop writing of students. From these writing games, six were chosen to be practically verified at the secondary school. For this verification, two methods were selected, an experiment and a questionnaire. The aim of the thesis was to find out whether the selected writing games contributed to the development of writing of students at the secondary school. The diploma thesis "Using social networks for teaching German as a foreign language" deals with the development of society in the theoretical part and how this development was influenced by technologies. There are also described the individual roles of the Internet and social networks in society and in education. The practical part deals with the use of modern technologies and social networks in education. There are individual examples and advices on how to integrate modern technologies and social networks into education throughout the year and also during one lesson. In conclusion, the work is supplemented with the results of a questionnaire survey, which was conducted in order to obtain information and on opinion of students about what they think of the involvement of social networks and modern technologies in teaching.
Wolfgang Herrndorf: Didactic adaptation of novel and film.

This master's dissertation deals with the elaboration of a didactic adaptation of the novel ​Tschick ​by Wolfgang Herrndorf and its film adaptation. The goal of this master's dissertation is to create a complete educational project that is used in a real school curriculum. In the theoretical part, the basic principles for creating such a project are expounded: The terms literature and film in teaching German are explained. Moreover, there are reasons listed why literature and films ought to be a firm part of second language teaching. The literary work ​Tschick ​by Wolfgang Herrndorf is dealt with in the perspective of literary studies. Furthermore, the theoretical and methodological principles are introduced in the purpose of creating such a project. This is implemented in the practical part of this master's dissertation using the novel ​Tschick ​by Wolfgang Herrndorf and its film adaptation as a foundation of this project. Thus, the lesson materials and plans are created that are used at a real school, ​Gymnázium, Praha 6, Arabská 14​, where a group of 17 students, who are at level A2, is chosen for this project. Analysis of German textbook materials for lower - secondary schools from 90s up to now focusing on the development of composing realia

This thesis is concerned with the analysis of sets of German language textbooks intended for the second grade of elementary school dating from the nineties until now from the point of view of the historical development of the mediation of language culture and background. The theoretical part clarifies the terms substantial for the issue in question, it describes the historical development of language culture and background teaching, individual approaches to the mediation of language culture and background and while doing so, it follows the fundamental publications concerning the didactics of language culture and background and also crucial works regarding the analysis of textbook sets. The practical part describes the design of the research, its division to stages, the sample of the textbooks analysed and the establishing of the criteria according to which the textbooks will be analysed. On the basis of thus established criteria, nine textbook sets have been analysed. The method utilised was content and comparative analysis. This bachelor thesis deals with theoretical analysis of selected words from Beste Freunde course book. The theoretical part draws from professional literature and analyzes Czech and German phonic system separately. Both systems are compared afterwards. The practical part deals with classification of pronunciation features which can be wrongly pronounced by Czech students. It also deals with analysis of selected wordstock from the course book and anticipates, where pronounciation errors could occur when being pronunced by Czech speakers. The aim of this thesis was to create an aid for teachers who teach using this course book and this thesis could help them with correct pronounciation teaching.

This diploma thesis focuses on important milestones of the German language teaching at the Czech schools. The aim of the theoretical part is to briefly report on the development of German language teaching and simultaneously serve as a historical base for the practical part. Practical part provides us with the variety of different programmes that lead to support a positive development of the German language teaching. The programs support both quality and quantity and the aim of the practical part is to find out, if they had a positive impact on the development and led to higher preference of German language learning.
