Impact of demographic changes on municipal technical infrastructure in the Czech Republic - case study of waste management
Rybová, Kristýna ; Burcin, Boris (advisor) ; Šídlo, Luděk (referee) ; Trögl, Josef (referee)
Impact of demographic changes on municipal technical infrastructure in the Czech Republic - case study of waste management Abstract The aim of this study is to quantify the impact of demographic development on the current household production of municipal waste in the Czech Republic and at the same time to compare their influence with the impact of other factors. Based on a literature review and statistical data available for the Czech Republic, a set of 22 explanatory variables concerning structure of population by age, gender, highest education and employment, as well as the size of households, unemployment, purchasing power, population density and basic characteristics of housing was identified in order to explain the production of municipal solid waste, mixed municipal waste and separately collected waste components (glass and plastics). It has turned out that demographic variables, especially the average household size, gender, age, level of education or sector of employment have a statistically significant but rather weak impact on the production of these waste streams. Given that the detailed analysis of the variables indicated that there is a significant spatial variability of these characteristics and that they exhibit spatial non- stationarity, the next step was to analyze the relationship of the...

Comparative analysis of working age population mortality in selected developed countries
Straka, Jakub ; Burcin, Boris (advisor) ; Rybová, Kristýna (referee)
Comparative analysis of working age population mortality in selected developed countries Abstract The main aim of this thesis was to analyze trends in mortality situation of working-age population (20-64 years old) in 31 developed countries in period 1995-2010 and to find similarities and differences between them. Temporary life expectancy was used as an indicator which summarizes the intensity of mortality in productive age. One-dimensional and two-dimensional decomposition revealed the contributions of individual age groups and selected nine major groups causes of death defined by ICD to the difference in temporary life expectancy values between 1995 and 2010 in five selected countries. An analysis of the development of this indicator has shown that there has been a prolongation of life span in working age in all surveyed countries and differences in mortality rates between countries decreased. Major cause of this trend was probably reduction of the mortality rate in the middle-aged population, mainly of external causes, in the 20-54 age group in countries with lower life expectancy rates. However, to verify this hypothesis, it would be necessary to analyze other developed countries with a higher level of mortality in working age population than Bulgaria and Lithuania. Countries with higher temporary life...

The Analysis of Clients of Selected Retirement Homes in Prague and in South-Bohemian Region in terms of Selected Demographic Characteristics
Kristen, Michal ; Burcin, Boris (advisor) ; Rybová, Kristýna (referee)
The Analysis of Clients of Selected Retirement Homes in Prague and in South-Bohemian Region in terms of Selected Demographic Characteristics Abstract The aim of the work is firstly to ascertain and compare the number of beds in retirement houses in the area of capital city Prague and in the South-Bohemian Region, secondly to characterize the clients in retirement houses according to their age, sex and marital status and thirdly to carry out the mortality analysis of clients in selected retirement houses. The Register of Social Service Providers, which is operated by the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, was used to find out the number of beds. To characterize the clients in retirement houses the descriptive demographic analysis was utilized and in the case of age it was the comparison with real population in corresponding region. The mortality analysis was worked out with the help of Kaplan-Meier method. Through the conducted research of mortality analysis it was find out that the quality of provided services does not decline with the higher capacity in retirement houses, even more the services are so quality that the clients in those retirement houses reach on the average higher age. Unambiguous differences in facilities between South-Bohemian Region and the capital city Prague result from the...
A comparison of selected models for smoothing and extrapolation of the death curve
Vykoukalová, Helena ; Burcin, Boris (advisor) ; Rybová, Kristýna (referee)
A comparison of selected models for smoothing and extrapolation of the death curve Abstract Due to demographic consequences of the 20th century, a life expectancy has rapidly increased and the propotion of the oldest-age group has grown. The aim of this thesis is to present six models used for smoothing and extrapolation of the data and verify their accuracy using empirical data. The theoretical part of the thesis contents a summary of bibliography and information about used data sets. The second part presents chosen models of smoothing and extrapolating of the data and it suggests the possibilities of comparison among models. The analytical part is aimed to compare the data from 36 developed coun- tries over 4 continents. Countries are divided by similar characteristics into a few smaller groups and the groups are analyzed by period and by life ex- pectancy at birth. Every country is analyzed separately as well as with the others and the model that is the best for the group is recomended. At the end of the analytical part, results are interpreted and the best models are chosen. The logistic models - especially Kannistö model - were the most suitable in the analysis by period and by life expectancy at birth. The least suitable models were Coale-Kisker and Gompertz-Makeham model. Keywords: mortality,...
Impact of demographic changes on healthcare expenditures in the Czech Republic
Rybová, Kristýna ; Burcin, Boris (advisor) ; Hulíková Tesárková, Klára (referee)
Impact of demographic changes on healthcare expenditures in the Czech Republic Abstract This work aims to analyse the influence of demographic changes on public healthcare expenditures in the Czech Republic. The first part displays particular factors having effect on healthcare expenditures with a special focus on demographic characteristics. In spite of the fact that the expenditure level seems to be mainly affected by the economic output of particular states and new technology development, while the influence of demographic fluctuation is of minor effect so far, this situation is likely to change. The next part presents the health care expenditures evolution in the Czech Republic from the beginning of the nineties. The data sources confirm that these expenditures keep growing just the same way as in other states in the world. The last part defines and quantifies the foreseen scenarios of the above mentioned health care expenditures depending upon demographic evolution. The results of those scenarios are being compared with other analysis results focusing on analyzing the influence of ageing process and health condition fluctuations on expenditure levels in the Czech Republic as well as in other EU countries. Keywords: population ageing, health care, costs of dying, health, new technologies, healthcare...
