Semantic fields of differing British and American Lexis
KADLECOVÁ, Veronika
This bachelor thesis deals with the differences between the vocabulary of British and American English. It is commonly known that British and American vocabulary differs, however, the description of dissimilarities is often restricted only on lists of words, from where it is not obvious in which semantic fields such differences may be expected. Based on the different vocabulary between both regional varieties, the purpose of the thesis is to find semantic fields, in which different terms for single concepts might be expected. The resulting semantic fields will be set in the context of the development of English vocabulary and the final tendencies will be described. The first part of the thesis focuses on the theoretical definition of semantics, semantic fields, general differences between British and American English and further on the lexical differences. Individual concepts will be examined by the onomasiological approach. Other parts of the thesis focus on the analysis of the sample and the thesis is finished by the interpretation of results in the context of the English language development, especially in the area of vocabulary.

Mycorrhisa in fossil record
Kadlecová, Veronika ; Kvaček, Jiří (advisor) ; Gryndler, Milan (referee)
Mycorrhizal symbiosis is present in the vast majority of extant land plants. Mycorrhizae represent a significant source of nutrients for both partners of the symbiosis and can also provide them with protection or help them survive in less hospitable enviroment. Mycorrhizae is believed to have been just as important in the past and played a major role in evolution of plants, for example in the transition of plants onto land. Mycorrhizal symbiosis is an object of many research works today for its agricultural importance. There is an amount of publications on research of fossil mycorrhizae, but there is still little interest in this issue. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)

Dílčí vyhodnocení zkušebního provozu úpravny vody Mostiště
Kadlecová, Veronika
This thesis pursues an evaluation of sectional trial operation of wastewater treatment plants in Mostiště, where the reconstruction has been started on 1st March 2012. A core of the works consisted of a complete reconstruction and intensification for providing a production of drinking water which suit tigtening law requirements on drinking water quality throughout the whole year and would be appreciated by users of drinking water. The necessity of the reconstruction and completion of a water treatment technological line came out of insufficiency -- worsening of raw water quality, bad technical condition of the whole line and some moral obsolescence of the line and especially of problematic quality of produced water according to specific indexes. An outcome of this thesis is an evaluation of efficiency and functionality of a modernized water treatment plant which is in trial operation for now, with help of chosen indexes controled after each separation step which are statisticaly processed into graphs and verbally rated.
Propaganda v mezinárodních vztazích: Případová studie rusko-ukrajinského konfliktu
Kadlecová, Veronika ; Kratochvíl, Petr (advisor) ; Cibulková, Petra (referee)
The thesis identifies and further examines the role of propaganda in the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, more specifically in the period around the annexation of the Crimean peninsula by the Russian Federation in March 2014. Critical discourse analysis is employed in order to analyse selected speeches of the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, and the President of the United States of America, Barack Obama, relevant to the topic and in the period under investigation. The first chapter introduces a theoretical framework on propaganda in international relations, its definition, history and research. The methodology is described in detail in the second chapter. The historical context of the conflict is provided at the beginning of the empirical part of the thesis closely followed by a detailed analysis of the selected speeches. The findings support the prediction that there is a presence of propaganda identified within the speeches of both political leaders, thus in the conflict itself, and offer valuable insights into the hidden meanings and possible motives behind its use. The study advances our understanding of the phenomenon and helps us to expose and confront propaganda further.
