The principle of individuality and the Absolute by Leibniz
Ghorbani Khaledi, Sare ; Forster, Michael Neil (advisor) ; Baum, Manfred (referee)
I try to show that the individuality of God, the unlimited whole, as well as the created monad, the limitations of God, can be explained in the metaphysics of Leibniz by the fact that God, because of his quantitative unlimitedness, possesses all possible qualities and thus all his qualities are determined. On the other hand, the monads, because of their limitations, have a determined set of quantities. Therefore, it can be said that the complete determinateness of the created monads and God with regard to their qualities allows their distinction from all others, and the principle of the identity of the indistinguishable constituted their uniqueness. Key words: Individuality, possibility, absoluteness, component-whole relationship, unlimitedness, limitation, quality.
