Campus + New building of Faculty of Architecture, Technical University of Nitra
Csanda, Denis ; Šabík, Viktor (referee) ; Nový, Vítězslav (advisor)
The diploma thesis deals with the design of a new university with the Faculty of Architecture and the Faculty of Arts in Nitra. The main topic is how to properly place and design a new university building in relation to surrounding buildings, which is mainly a national monument [Slovak University of Agriculture designed by architect Vladimír Dedeček.] This topic is based on the undergraduate work, which deals with campus of SPU and UKF. In the undergraduate work, an urban study was prepared for the entire campus area, which tries to point out its potential. It defined the place where the design of the diploma thesis building should be concentrated, which is a direct continuation of it and follows up on its topic. The form of the university is based on Dedeček's thoughts on the composition of the campus. It works with the axis scheme "cardo-decumanus", is based on the forms of SPU pavilions and imitates the way UKF operates. The form is cropped so as not to cover the monument to a greater extent than the growing greenery currently does. This creates terraces, which are accessible by hidden stairs from the square to the highest part of the roof. These terraces create a new level of public life, from which there are views of Zobor and the city skyline. Like terraces, facades are also accessible. By moving the floors, galleries are created that bypass the entire university. It is also important to process the theme of the studios. Both faculties have a similar studio teaching method. These studios function as separate parts of the university. They are linked to the faculty institutes by staircases running across the floors. Between these parts, four unique exterior spaces are created, which have a specific purpose and function.

U. S. universities often apply affirmative action approach in admissions procedure, that is to say, they give preferential treatment to racial or ethnic minority applicants. There are several reasons for this policy. Second, universities attempt to create a diverse student body which is supposed to produce educational benefits and raise the quality of education. The affirmative action programs cause a number of controversies. The opponents argue that the policy discriminates against the majority and therefore violates the Fourteenth Amendment of the Constitution. Many litigations took place in the United States over the course of years, some of the cases were even brought before the Supreme Court. The Bachelor's thesis "The Policy of Affirmative Action at American Universities: Perspective of the Supreme Court 1978-2003" investigates the changes of the Supreme Court's approach to this problem in the period between 1978 (first landmark decision) and 2003, when the Supreme Court dealt with the issue last so far. On the basis of an analysis of the decisions in three significant Supreme Court cases, this paper characterizes the most...
