Non-pharmacological methods for influencing memory consolidation during sleep
Němcová, Monika ; Kopřivová, Jana (advisor) ; Honc, Ondřej (referee)
Sleep plays vital role in many physiological processes of the human body, including the consolidation of memory. The beneficial effects of sleep on memory consolidation have long been known, but only in the last two decades the knowledge of the relationship between sleep and memory has been used to develop interventions to improve memory consolidation during sleep. Two of these approaches are the focus of this work: closed-loop auditory stimulation (CLAS) and targeted memory reactivation (TMR). They are of particular clinical interest, as they are non- pharmacological, which minimizes the risk of dependence and abuse. In addition, they do not impose exogenous force fields on the brain and are, therefore, considered safer than other similar interventions. The aim of this work is to describe CLAS and TMR in detail, to investigate which factors influence their efficacy, and to discuss their clinical potential in the treatment of memory- related disorders.
The influence of the Media on the Lifestyle of Teenagers
Richterová, Karolína ; Wolák, Radim (advisor) ; Lütke Notarp, Ulrike (referee)
This thesis examines the impact of media on adolescents' lifestyles, more specifically on two aspects of lifestyle, namely physical activity and sleep. Within the Covid-19 pandemic period, individuals were forced to stay in their homes, and all their social contact, as well as school and work obligations, shifted to the online environment. With this, screen time also increased, as did the associated sedentary behaviour. As they were all forced to be isolated, sports and leisure activities were also very limited or often also transferred to the online environment. The aim of this thesis is therefore to try to define the habits of adolescents in terms of physical activity, sleep and media consumption, and how these aspects are interconnected, and whether adolescents perceive this interconnection. The aim was also to provide some education to the individuals, where they were then confronted with recommendations for particular aspects of lifestyle (sleep and physical activity), but also recommendations regarding media consumption. As lifestyle was strongly influenced by the Covid-19 disease pandemic, the aim was also to see how individual students' habits changed within this period, but also afterwards. Within the framework of this work, qualitative research was conducted. Using in-depth interviews...
The rate of physical activity of people with spinal cord lesions
Maráčková, Petra ; Vařeková, Jitka (advisor) ; Malá, Michaela (referee)
Title: The rate of physical activity of people with spinal cord lesions. Objectives: The aim of the research was to verify the usability of a non-standardized questionnaire for collecting data on the level of physical activity and other selected lifestyle factors in people with spinal cord injury. Methods: Quantitative research was carried out in the field environment of Centrum Paraple. It was an observational study consisting of a pilot survey of a sample of the population of people with spinal cord injury about the level of physical activity. We used a non-standardized electronic questionnaire "LTPA-SCI" ("Leisure time physical activity for people with spinal cord injury "), created by spinal specialists of Centrum Paraple. A total of n = 66 respondents participated in the study (male n = 53; female n = 13). The sampling was random. The criteria for inclusion in the study were a minimum age limit of 18 years, a diagnosis of spinal cord lesions with complete and incomplete spinal cord damage and participation in a three-week movement program at Centrum Paraple. The data were processed using descriptive statistics in Excel program. Results: A sample of respondents to this survey shows that Centrum Paraple's clients perform more physical activity in their home environment, a total of 86%. The age...
Sleep apnea detection from ECG records
Trnková, Simona ; Smital, Lukáš (referee) ; Králík, Martin (advisor)
The aim of this work is to propose an algorithm for the detection of sleep apnea from the respiratory signal that was extracted from the ECG signal. The work includes the theory of sleep medicine, methods for extracting the respiratory curve from the ECG signal and methods for detecting apnoeic sections. In the practical part, the algorithm for estimating the breathing curve and models classifying apnoeic sections are described and evaluated.
Shift work and its impact on quality of live
MRÁZOVÁ, Veronika
The work process is a significant component of every person's lifestyle, as we spend a large amount of time at work. It is therefore logical that the characteristics of the job affect the quality of life. This thesis explores the impact of shift work on the quality of life. Around 20 % of all workers worldwide work in shifts, which is a significant part of the population. Shift work is essential in some fields, such as industry, healthcare, and emergency services, for example. The theoretical part of the thesis defines the basic terms and informs about research and conclusions related to irregular shift system, night work, and sleep deficiency. The practical part of the work is the evaluation of a questionnaire survey among the employees of Budějovice Budvar, n.p., who work in different shift regimes. The WHOQOL - BREF questionnaire was used for the investigation.
Regeneration in top volleyball players
Fikar, Martin ; Vorálek, Rostislav (advisor) ; Petružela, Jan (referee)
Title: Regeneration for elite volleyball players Objectives: The aim of my bachelor's thesis is to detect the knowledge and awareness of the types of regeneration in volleyball among the clubs of the Czech "UNIQA extraleague". Whether the players comply with these regeneration procedures and to what extent they fulfill these procedures in comparison to findings from the specialized literature. Methods: In my work, i used the questionnaire survey method. The questions for this questionnaire were consulted in advance with an expert in this topic. To make it easier for foreign players, the questionnaire was also written in English. We then compared the results from the questionnaire with professional literature. Results: I found out that regeneration is not given as much emphasis as it should be. At the same time, a high number of accidents surfaced. Another finding concerned coaches who provided inaccurate information regarding passive recovery. Regarding passive regeneration according to players, it is of great importance, but more than half do not do anything that could make this regeneration more effective and of better quality. Keywords: analysis, sleep, performance, muscle soreness, volleyball

Influence of binaural beats on ideomotoric coordination
Pavlovič, Ondřej ; Pánek, David (advisor) ; Pavlů, Dagmar (referee)
Name: The effects of binaural beats on sleep quality: a systematic review Aims of the study: The main objective of this study is to present the possibilities of influencing stress and sleep, to determine the effect of binaural beats (BB) stimulation on sleep quality and parameters, and to determine the specifics of effective BB therapy based on the available data. Materials and methods: This systematic review includes scientific articles and clinical studies published in relevant and/or peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings. Three electronic databases (Web of Science, Scopus, PubMed) were searched for all available sources published from 2000 to January 2023 in English language. The search was conducted using relevant keywords and their combinations. The screening and subsequent process of elimination was based on set of eligibility and inclusion criteria. Results: Total of fourteen studies met the eligibility criteria. BB stimulation increased subjectively perceived sleep quality and reduced mental tension. Objectively, it reduces time of falling asleep, accelerates the onset of deeper sleep stages (N2 and N3) and increases their duration, as well as the total sleep time. The parameters optimal for effective BB stimulation can be laid out as follows: BB in the frequency range of 2 to 4...
Sleep and the consequences of its lack on university students
Soukupová, Barbora ; Thorovská, Alena (advisor) ; Zvírotský, Michal (referee)
This bachelor's thesis is called Sleep and the consequences of its lack on university students. The work is divided into two parts. In the theoretical part are mentioned general characteristics of sleep, history, circadian rhythms, phases and meaning of sleep. Furthermore, attention is also paid to selected sleep disorders, possible causes, and finally the consequences that can occur during sleep deprivation. The practical part is carried out with the help of semi-structured interviews with respondents, followed by an analysis of the interviews, a comparison of individual data and a discussion in which the answers to the research questions are summarized and the results compared with the professional literature. The main goal was to find out the consequences of lack of sleep on university students, when it was found that the most common problems are with attention, memory and mood changes, as well as greater susceptibility to diseases. A partial goal investigated the possible causes that contribute to impaired sleep on university students. The research showed that the most common causes were stress and caffeine. Another partial goal was to find out how the quality of sleep subjectively changes in university students during the exam period. The results pointed to a reduction in sleep time, worsening...
