Tomas Garrigue Masaryk and his political experience from Russia in building Czechoslovakia
Elokhina, Daria ; Šmíd, Marek (advisor) ; Petráček, Tomáš (referee)
Tomas Garrigue Mas aryk has been interested in Russian culture since his youth. He knew Russian very well. Knowledge of Russia and its culture allowed Masaryk to establish friendly political relations in this distant country. Masaryk found support in Russian Democratic circles for his ideas and ideals. Russia at the beginning of the twentieth century had similar social and state problems as the Czech lands: it was a monarchy and thoughts of revolution and system change were growing in it. Masaryk believed that the experience of Russian political opposition forces in dealing with the monarchy and in making changes could help him in his efforts to withdraw the Czech lands and Slovakia from Austria-Hungary and build a newly emerged democratic Czechoslovakia. Keywords Tomas Garrigue Masaryk, Russia, Czech lands, Czech-Russian relations, 1905 - 1918
Changing international environment and the new threat. A chance for European strategic culture?
Bartík, Lukáš ; Martinková, Viera (advisor) ; Földes, Kristián (referee)
Changing international environment and new threats. Opportunity for a European strategic culture? The international environment is going through a period of major upheaval. Terrorism, the growing influence of emerging powers and authoritarian regimes, and the weakening of multilateralism contribute to the gradual deterioration of the world order and simultaneously represent a serious challenge to Europe. In the aftermath of the Russian annexation of Crimea in 2014, the vulnerability of the European security architecture became especially apparent. This thesis aims to unfold how these changes were perceived and responded to by two major countries of the European Union: France and Germany. The main focus is on the perception of these changes, the security challenges and the relationship with Russia and its confrontational policy towards Europe and the surrounding areas. Furthermore, it deals with their perception of the changing foreign-policy priorities of the United States and the deepening of European cooperation in the field of security and defense policy. The analysis of the German and French discourse depicts their attitude and then compares their approach to the changing international landscape, thus answering the question of the compatibility of their respective strategic thinking.

Pokorný, Jiří ; Handl, Vladimír (advisor) ; Lizcová, Zuzana (referee)
This master's thesis deals with the response of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Russian hybrid threat, which is examined using a case study of the so-called "Lisa case" from January 2016. The thesis aims to place the "Lisa case" in the context of German-Russian relations and hybrid threats in the security reality of the 21st century. Germany and Russia have long had a special relationship, which, however, fell into crisis after the Russian annexation of the Crimean Peninsula. The main goal of Russia's efforts to influence social and political development in Europe has become Germany, which must deal with new methods and strategies of hybrid warfare. The advent of hybrid threats is a challenge not only for Germany but also for its allies. Russia's view of hybrid threats proves that the term has different meanings for different actors. One of the manifestations of the Russian hybrid threat is the case of a thirteen-year-old girl of German-Russian origin Lisa F. who was missing in Berlin for several hours and allegedly raped by migrants. Although the German police promptly refuted the case, the Russian media misused the event to fuel an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty, especially among a significant minority of Russian Germans. The incident spread to the intergovernmental level when Russian...
