Family rituals in preschool children

This thesis deals with family rituals in preschoolers. The theoretical part of the thesis summarizes the existing findings concerning the relationship among family rituals and other variables of parenthood and the development of a pre-school child. The practical part consists of a multiple case study. Its aim was to get the view of mothers and preschool children on the ritual and to record how the ritual is shaped and how the children themselves are involved in the process. The data were collected in the form of semi-structured interviews with mothers and their pre- school children. The results were described in both case reports and in the inter-case comparison. It was shown that a significant factor in the formation of rituals is the workload of the mother, which at the same time is related both to the occurrence of the ritual and to its course and relation to it. It is also clear from the results that the presence of family members is very important for children. It often plays a more important role than regular repetition. There was also found a consensus on the ritual of mothers and children in individual families.
