Hydromorphological survey and identification of reference status of the Jizera River

Long-term and intensive human use of watercourses has led to their considerable degradation. Recently, there has been an effort to improve the ecological status of aquatic ecosystems, based on studies of hydromorphological characteristics of natural watercourses and identification of reference conditions. The aim of this thesis was the hydromorphological survey and an identification of reference conditions of the Jizera River. The selection of sites suitable for identification of reference status was based on pre-set criteria determined on remote sensing data, which eliminated significant anthropogenic impacts on the channel and floodplain. The survey using River Habitat Survey (Environmental Agency, 2003), Hydroecological Monitoring (Langhammer et al., 2014) and REFCON (Šmerousová a Matoušková, 2014a) methods was conducted in selected sites. Sites where hydromorphological conditions correspond with very good class, according to Hydroecological Monitoring, were used for identification of the type-specific reference conditions. Hydromorphological survey and type specific reference conditions of streams

The aim of Water framework Directive 2000/60/ES (WFD) is to reach a good ecological status of watercourses which consist of 3 constituents - the biological, physio-chemical and the hydromorphological state. To make these conditions equal among the various countries of the EU, the particular conditions of various watercourses are characterized as deviations from the default "reference status". The reference status corresponds to the natural (or near natural) state without any anthropogenic disturbance (or with only a minor disturbance). These disturbances mean different modification of the watercourses or ways of farming in the proximity of the inundation area. This Bachelor's Thesis studies publications as a basis for defining the hydromorphological - type specific - reference conditions in the WFD (2000/60/ES) context. Issues of classification and typology of watercourses are discussed, as well as the current legislation connected with these issues and the methods of hydromorphological survey in chosen countries. In the last section, possible hydromorphological parameters suitable for the determination of morphologically type-specific conditions are defined in Czech republic. Assessment of river restoration effects based on hydromorphology

In the field of river restorations, topics being currently discussed are assessing success and quantifying effects that river restoration measures should have. This bachelor thesis deals with an assessment of the river restoration effects based on the hydromorphology. Current knowledge in fields of hydromorphology and fluvial geomorphology are presented in the theoretical part of this thesis. Recent outcomes and methodical procedures that are used to evaluate the effects of river restoration measures are also included. A method was developed based on the theoretical part of this thesis and the method EcoRivHab in order to assess the restoration effects by selected parametres. The method was applied on the restored segment of Litovický stream in Hostivice town in the practical part. The results of the thesis showed what a significant impact the restoration had on Litovický stream (in average +33.74 %). The parameter maximum flow velocity showed the highest effect (+84.9 %). On contrary, the parameter structure of bank vegetation had the only negative effect (-1.8 %). Key words: streams, river restoration, restoration effect, hydromorphology, hydromorphological survey
