The everyday life of publicly active women in second half of 19th century

The goal of the master thesis is to introduce a woman living in the second half of nineteenth century in her private sphere of influence. It deals with the everyday life of the female half of population belonging to the bourgeoisie and with the rhythm controlling her life. In particular chapters there are concluded parts of female world limited by their household. The thesis describes ordinary actions which made part of female's life, the most important are housekeeping and raising children. The attention is also focused on female's health and body care and on the methods of mental hygiene, especially ways of relaxing and spending free time. An ordinary life of female member of bourgeoisie in the second half of nineteenth century is reconstructed thanks to the primary sources, particularly the diaries and the private correspondence. The thesis is based on the research of the estates of many publicly active Czech women lay-by in the Literary Archive of the Museum of Czech Literature or published as the edition. Ethnographic entities in Notes of Marie Červinková-Riegrová

The study deals with analysis of perception and description of ethnographic entities by Marie Červinková-Riegrová, as reflected in her Notes. The basic source is completed by other sources, mainly Memorial book of Maleč and family correspondence. The first part is paid to the study of biography of Marie Červinková-Riegrová, which is a necessary framework for exploring her relation to ethnographic issues. In another part are analyzed the Notes and their potential use for the Ethnography. The next chapter deals with the concept of patriotism as the author of Notes understood. Patriotism is introduced as one of the starting points of Marie's interest of ethnographic entities. The next chapter deals with specific manifestations of folk culture, folk customs, etc., and their reflections by Marie Červinková-Riegrová. The main emphasis is placed on the folk costume description. The following part is relating to religious pilgrimages and sacred places. The last chapter analyzes folk customs and traditions followed in the Rieger family and on the farm of Maleč.

The study deals with the impact of this process on the emancipation efforts of women in Bohemia and Moravia, particularly in the latter half of the 19th century and the early 20th century.
