Dispute of Sázava glassworks after Josef Kavalier's death

In the year 1835, František Kavalír founded glassworks in Sázava. It managed to prosper enough to take part in various international glass exhibition (for example in Paris and London) despite all obstacles, including natural ones. Sázava glassworks functioned without larger problems until the year 1903 when Josef, the son of František Kavalír, died. Since in his last will, there was written that his son Vladimír, who worked with his father on the operation of the factory for twenty years, was not to inherit the factory, instead he was to become a mere administrator, the ownership was to be given to Josef's grandson Vladimír Josef who needed to be of age at the time of his father's passing. Otherwise, the factory was to pass to Marie Srbová, daughter of Josef. But Vladimír Kavalier died in 1919 and his wasn't of age yet. Srb brothers had taken advantage of their mother's father's last will and started to demand Sázava glassworks. In the twenties of 20th century, both families led highly expansive judicial inquiry that culminated in indebtedness of both families up till the year 1941 when it came to the loss of all four existing glassworks. This bachelor thesis is concerned with historical technical buildings in boarding region. Opening chapters are focused on types of technical buildings and history of glass and glasworks. Further on, there are described two main generations of glassworks owners. The main part of the thesis is focused on glassworks and mills themselfs. There are chapters of the biggest or most signifiant glassworks and mills in the boarder region. These glassworks and the mills are pointed in maps according to different categories.

History of the German minority in the village Lenora until today

This Master thesis deals with the topic of the German minority in the village Lenora. As the life in Lenora was very closely connected to the local glassworks, the thesis provides a brief history of glass in the Bohemian Forest and the glassworks in Lenora as well as the historical context in the country dating from the establishment of Czechoslovakia and the analysis of the life in Lenora. The thesis also describes the situation after the expulsion of Germans from Czechoslovakia because many Germans stayed in Lenora even after the expulsion due to their employment in the glassworks. In addition to the history of Germans in Lenora, interviews with several contemporary witnesses were made. After the expulsion, the population in Lenora changed significantly, which was the reason for dedicating one chapter to the topic of remigration. The last chapter informs about the current state of affairs concentrating on the society Heimatkreis Prachatitz administered by Germans who lived in the district of Prachatice.

History of Michlova Huť in 17th and 18th Century. Contribution to History of Sumava Glass Industry.

Bachelor thesis History of "Michlova huť"in the 17th and 18thcentury aims to elucidate the history of glassworks in Šumava, which is famous for the discovery of the cretaceous glass. The thesis is divided into four chapters. The first chapter briefly presents the estate Vimperk and nobility, under which the selected glassworks belonged. The next part deals with the issue of Šumava´s glass industry in the 17th and 18th century. The third chapter provides information about the glass productionand glass-making tools and also presents products produced in mentioned glassworks. The main part of this thesis is the fourth chapter, which deals with this glassworks. It represents individual glass-making foremen and their rights and obligations and itdescribes the general position of "Michlova huť" in the selected period. The thesis also includes appendix with pictures.

The Buquoy glass

The theme of this work is the development of the glassmaking in the southern Bohemia´s domains of Buquoy´s genus. This work creates a complex view of an old French family, who came to the Czech land after 1620 and it illustrates its historical, social, economic and finally its art activities. Buquoys during two hundred years interlinked European and local experiences until they completely merged with the Czech culture. I deal with the genealogy of the Buquoys´s family in the introduction. A following chapter is devoted to the historical development of glassmaking in Novohradské hory´s area before Buquoys came to their domains in South Bohemia. I continue with a chronological description of every glassworks, acting on Novohradsko. The main part of my work I devote to the glass itself. Individual chapters deal with glass, which has been produced since the first half of 17th century until the half of 19th century. One of the subchapters is dedicated to hyalite glass, unique opaque glass, which contains the most significant one - the black hyalite. This dark enamel with a gloss surface has been created since 1817 in buquoy´s glassworks Jiříkovo Údolí and later in the glassworks Stříbrný Vrch. The production of red hyalite was introduced two years later. In conclusion of my work I remind even the semiprecious glass. A character of this glass is similar to noble nature materials, mostly marble or semi-gemstone. Typical sign of this glass is color, opacity and most of time, even the veined and marble structure of the surface. The main representatives are the lithyalins. In my work, there is also the subchapter about agathins, which used to remind the lithyans by shape and look, but during their creation were chosen different ways of working with glass because Earl Jiří František Buquoy didn´t want the imitation of the nature materials.
