Beamforming using microphone arrays

The aim of the master thesis is to sum up theoretical information about beamforming methods of microphone arrays and to verify their functionality. At the beginning of this work there are simulated different varietes of linear uniform and nonuniform microphone arrays and circular arrays. The results are verificated by a practical measurement in ideal conditions. Then I will focuse on implementation of the DAS(Delay And Sum), SAB(Sub Array Beamforming), CDB(Constant Directivity Beamforming), CDB-CA(CDB-Circular Arrays) beamformer including theoretical and practical verification of the functionality in ideal conditions. At the end of this thesis are all beamforming methods compared with each other at SNR(signal to Noise Ratio) and directivity parameters.
Role of DD- and DED-containing adaptor proteins in apoptotic signaling

Proteins containing a bundle of six anti-paralel α-helices in so-called "death domain" (DD) and similar structures (DED, CARD) represent important players in apoptotic signaling. To DD/DED/CARD domains-containing proteins belong pro- apoptotic membrane receptors from the TNFR superfamily, then adaptor proteins and enzymes as proteases or kinases. These pro-apoptotic "death receptors" interact with adaptor proteins and initiator caspases containing DDs or DEDs and activate apoptotic signaling cascade. DEDs and DDs are in addition found in many proteins participating in activation of caspases or other non-apoptotic signaling. Many experimental models document that defects in and deregulations of proteins containing DDs and DEDs can have severe if not lethal consequences for an organism. Abberations in these proteins in many cases could lead to cancerogenesis, immunodeficiencies or developmental defects.

Aim of this work was to study fatty acid synthesis pathway in the tick Ixodes ricinus. I have characterized tissues and stage expression profiles of three genes; acc (acetyl coenzyme A carboxylase), fas (fatty acid synthetase) and fabp (fatty acid binding protein) by qRT-PCR. Then expression of these genes was silenced by RNA interference and phenotypes observed during and after feeding in nymphs and adults. The pathway seems to be crutial for the ticks.
Autoimmune and lymphoproliferative diseases: associations and common mechanisms

Autoimmune and lymphoproliferative diseases share some etiologic mechanisms. The origin of the diseases is complicated process that involves an accumulation of hereditary and somatic mutations in a hematopoetic cell, which thanks to changed activity overcomes different growth and survival control checkpoints. Such mutations are for example those located in genes coding for transcription factors, apoptotic signaling molecules, costimulatory molecules and secreted exctracellular molecules. All these molecules influence the balance between survival and programmed cell death. Their dysregulated expression enables the cell to overcome defensive mechanisms of the immune system. Therefore, autoimmune and malignant cells are able to survive though, under usual circumstances, they would be selected. The main aim of this work is to shed the light on the influence of the dysregulated expression of the particular molecules on the origin of autoimmune and lymphoproliferative diseases.
