Preparedness of selected providers of social services for emergencies with a focus on the epidemiological situation of COVID-19.
PAVELKOVÁ, Petra
The diploma thesis deals with the readiness of selected social service providers on the territory of the South Bohemian Region for dealing with extraordinary events. For the diploma thesis, social facilities providing a residential form in the territory of the South Bohemian Region were randomly selected. In these facilities, staff is the most important thing for clients, so staff should be adequately informed and prepared for emergencies. The social facilities providing the residential form include: these are homes for the elderly, homes for people with disabilities, asylum housing, halfway houses, weekly hospitals, sheltered housing and others. The first chapter of the theoretical part deals with the issue of social services. To include individual concepts related to social services, the classification of social services, without which we would find it difficult to orient ourselves in the offer of services. In the next chapter I focus on COVID-19 disease, its symptoms, spread and treatment. In the practical part of the diploma thesis, 78 facilities were addressed by random selection. 41 of the addressed facilities actively participated in the questionnaire survey. The aim of the diploma thesis was "To assess the current state of readiness of selected providers of social services in the South Bohemian region to deal with emergencies." To achieve the goal of the diploma thesis and to answer the hypothesis: "Providers of social services in the South Bohemian region are 80% ready quantitative research "was chosen, the data of which were obtained using a questionnaire survey. 78 social facilities providing a residential form in the South Bohemian Region were randomly selected for the diploma thesis. Questionnaire (Appendix 1) was distributed to social service providers, according to the register of social service providers. The questionnaire contained 38 questions. The results of the questionnaire survey were evaluated in the form of graphs, including their interpretation. A threshold has been set for assessing the awareness of social service providerssuccess rate of 80% correct answers. The results of the questionnaire survey show that the readiness of selected providers of social services in the South Bohemian region reached only 58 %, which means that social service providers are not sufficiently prepared for emergencies. The threshold of success was met in questions 1, 5a, 5b, 8, 10, 11, 13, 22, 23 a 30. Most social service providers have developed a crisis preparedness plan (question 13) and the thesis shows that social service providers are interested on the creation of a system of education and training of volunteers (question no. 36) where, however, the threshold of success was not met. The diploma thesis can be used for other study purposes.
Radicalization of the Czech society in reaction to occurence of COVID-19 disease
MINAŘÍK, Dominik
The submitted diploma thesis deals with the issue of radicalization of the population in the Czech Republic, which is a constantly evolving phenomenon and the crisis caused by the COVID-19 epidemic could affect this process, when the submitted diploma thesis underlines important facts related to this phenomenon. The thesis contains a theoretical part, in which the author focuses onto the introduction and views of concepts related to the chosen topic, such as radicalism and extremism. The author briefly present the position of individual ideologies that create the process of radicalization of the population and have an affect to cause extremist manifestation of individuals or groups. The chosen problem points to the danger which point to the democratic society and the trend of so-called populists in the political spectrum, who come in times of crisis with an often simple but unfeasible solution to the situation. Within such a connection of the crisis in the form of COVID-19 and the impact of possible radicalization of the democratic civilian population, this theses monitors and evaluates such events when the current measures in the fight against the radical scene in the Czech Republic are summarized by the relevant state departments and the student suggest his own measures. As the last point of this theses the found data of security risks and measures are compared on an international scale.
The impact of Covid - 19 on paramedic's work
VYBÍRALOVÁ, Adriana
In this bachelor thesis I am dealing with a question of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on paramedic 's work in prehospital emergency care. In the theoretical part I am mentioning the COVID-19 disease itself. Furthermore, concepts of prehospital emergency care including emergency operations centre, paramedics, and specifics of their work during the pandemic of COVID-19 are defined. Concepts from the field of human needs are also included in the thesis. And because of the COVID-19 psychological impact on paramedics the issue of burnout syndrome is mentioned too. The research part consists of a qualitative research based on a semi-structured interview. The research sample are employees of the medical rescue service from the Vysočina Region with at least 2 years of working experience. The first goal of this thesis is to find out in which work activities the pandemic of COVID-19 has affected paramedics in providing prehospital emergency care. The second goal is to find out if paramedics perceive a difference between providing prehospital emergency care to patients before the pandemic and during the pandemic of COVID-19. The final goal of the thesis is to find out what fields of human needs paramedics are not satisfied in providing prehospital emergency care during the pandemic of COVID-19. Results of the bachelor thesis will be given to the Chief Executive of the Vysočina Region Medical Rescue Service to show support to their employees not only during the pandemic of COVID-19.
Preparedness of medical ambulances on Covid-19
KYMLA, Tomáš
The topic of the bachelor's thesis is the Preparedness of medical ambulances on Covid19. Three research objectives were set. First, to map both the initial and the current work experience of paramedics with calls throughout the Covid-19 pandemic. Second, to investigate the material preparedness of the emergency medical services for Covid-19 and third, to study the methods of health care offered by paramedics to the Covid-19 positive patients. In addition, three research questions were identified, which were answered during the research survey. The theoretical part of the bachelor's thesis examines the Emergency Medical Services, and then it focuses on infectious diseases and the process of disease spreading, followed by highly dangerous diseases that are similar to Covid-19. The work also introduces the history, diagnosis and treatment of this disease. The work does not forget the pandemic plan of the Czech Republic and the preparedness of medical ambulances for Covid-19. The practical part was carried out by using a qualitative method of semi-structured interview, which contained 27 questions. The research group was created by 10 paramedics from individual regional centers of the Emergency Medical Service of the South Bohemian Region. For the sake of clarity, the research results were divided into 8 categories and compiled into tables. The results of the research survey showed that paramedics often encountered calls to patients with Covid-19, especially at the time when the emergency service did not have a sufficient amount of personal protective equipment (which led to using uncommon protective equipment). The methods of emergency care for Covid-19 patients were also mapped and it was shown that the paramedics proceeded in the same way as to non Covid patients, with a few exceptions. With Covid-19 positive patients, paramedics emphasize increased personal protection and the usage of personal protective equipment, which is also based on saturation and temperature values. Furthermore, the work showed that the Emergency Medical Service of the South Bohemian Region is nowadays very well prepared for a possible next wave of Covid19. The objectives of the work were met and research questions were also answered.
Contribution and cooperation of the Army of the Czech Republic during the Covid-19 pandemic in the work of general nurses
PAVLOVIČOVÁ, Adéla
The aim of this diploma thesis was to map the scope of cooperation between members of the AČR and general nurses during the Covid-19 pandemic. Another goal was to find out if the general nurses were satisfied with the mentioned cooperation, and also to map the experiences of the general nurses with the deployment of soldiers in hospital inpatient wards. The theoretical part deals with a detailed description of key terms that are still related to the research part. Above all, attention is paid here to the disease Covid-19, its clinical picture and the possibilities of prevention, diagnosis and treatment. Key terms such as general nurse or pandemic are also explained. We also focus on the specifics of the work of general nurses in hospitals during the pandemic. Another of the main chapters focuses on the Army of the Czech Republic and the ways in which it fought against the mentioned infectious disease. It describes not only the help provided by its members in social and hospital facilities, but also help to the components of the integrated rescue system and other ways of its involvement. In the empirical part, a research investigation was carried out in a qualitative form using the in-depth interview method. The research group consisted of a total of fifteen general nurses who work in two different hospitals on inpatient wards. All of them collaborated with members of the ACR during the pandemic, which represents the basic building block of this entire research. Before the actual research was carried out, a pre-research was also carried out, which mainly served to verify the comprehensibility of the individual questions in the interview. After the consent of the informants, the interviews were recorded and subsequently transcribed in Microsoft Word by the author of the thesis. The obtained information was carefully read and, as needed, categorized and reduced into created categories and subcategories, which are schematically shown in the results chapter. The obtained results show that the members of the ACR cooperated both with general nurses and with other members of the nursing team. Most often, it was auxiliary work, such as helping with morning hygiene, anti-decubitus care, assistance with meals, etc. The general nurses explained what the soldiers were most beneficial to them, but also described the tasks that were problematic activities for the soldiers. General nurses also described in detail the experiences they gained from this collaboration, and stated both positive and negative opinions and comments about this collaboration. The work also includes recommended changes in case another wave of the Covid-19 pandemic follows. In the discussion chapter, the obtained results of the empirical part are then compared with professional literature and global database articles.
Providing nursing care of patients with mental disorders during the pandemic.
MARKOVÁ, Monika
Current status: In January 2020, the World Health Organization declared an outbreak of a new coronavirus disease, covid-19, a public health threat. Two months later, it was determined that it could be classified as a pandemic. Social isolation, anxiety, fear of contagion, insecurity, chronic stress and economic hardship can lead to the emergence of mental disorders in vulnerable populations or the worsening of pre-existing disorders (e.g. depression, anxiety). Psychiatric conditions related to stress, mood changes and substance use may also be associated with suicidal behaviour. The covid-19 disease may increase suicide rates during and after a pandemic. Therefore, providing nursing care to patients is a constant challenge not only because of the increasing need for it but also because of the increased mental health burden and limited social contact. Aims of the study: 1. To investigate the impact of the pandemic on the provision of nursing care to patients with a mental disorder. 2. To investigate nurses' experience of providing nursing care to patients with a mental disorder during a pandemic. Methodology: The empirical part of the study was done through qualitative research inquiry. A survey method was used, and a semi-structured interview was the data collection technique. The data collected was analyzed by open coding, pencil and paper method. Based on this analysis, four categories and seven sub-categories emerged. The research part: The research population consisted of 17 nurses from different regions in the Czech Republic. Specifically, eight nurses worked in inpatient care, five worked in outpatient care, and four worked in community care. The selection of nurses was deliberate. Results: The research showed that the pandemic had a widespread impact on providing nursing care to patients with mental disorders. Due to anti-epidemic measures, care was limited, some wards were closed entirely, and there was also a risk of deterioration in the quality of care. Nurses consider the benefits of the pandemic to be the newly gained experience and an even more close-knit team. Among the specifics of the care provided during the pandemic, nurses mentioned wearing protective equipment, limiting contact, testing staff and increased disinfection of areas. Complications and shortcomings in care delivery most frequently cited included inadequate amounts of protective equipment, poor communication with clients, little support from management, and lack of additional staff. Tele-nursing was also used in providing nursing care, especially by nurses in outpatient care. Application to practice: The findings will contribute to mapping the specificities in providing nursing care to patients with mental disorders during a pandemic. The thesis results can be used as study material for non-medical students and practising nurses.
Nurse in home care during the Covid-19 pandemic
HESSOVÁ, Johana
The aim of the thesis was to determine the situation of the home care nurses during Covid-19 pandemic and their ability to take care of their patients. The influence of the government restrictions on the home care nurses is covered as well. There is a practical part that consists of 12 interviews, out of which 10 are with the nurses and 2 with the directly affected patients. The interview was done either face to face or by phone depending on the working schedule or distant location of the interviewees. The research was done in depth using "the deep interview technique" questions that allow the best qualitative results. The questions were pre-prepared. The overall result showed that despite the difficult situations, the nurses were able to unite and provide to their patients the best care possible. The occupation of the home care nurse is truly challenging, not only physically but also mentally. This thesis allows us to understand the duties, needs and feelings of the nurses during the Covid-19 pandemic. The nurses were working very hard, carefully and with precision as they were dealing with the most vulnerable group of individuals that they wanted to protect and do not expose to any risks. We are reffering to the senior population. Many times the home care nurses are their only social link and connection with the outside world.
The impact of the pandemic on the work of nurses in home care agencies
PAĎOURKOVÁ, Aneta
Current situation: Nurses working in home care agencies take care of clients in their natural home environment and are an integral part of healthcare. Their system of work was affected by the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. Nurses had to adhere to many extraordinary precautions and rules to prevent the spread of this infectious disease, whilst ensuring the ongoing care of their clients. It is important to note that the work of home care nurses was classified as a frontline service during the fight against the pandemic. Objectives: 1. To find out how home care agency nurses provided nursing care to their clients during the pandemic. 2. To determine the impact of the pandemic on the work of home care agency nurses. 3. To find out what crisis situations the nurses from home care agencies encountered during the pandemic. Methodology: The research part of the bachelor thesis was effected through qualitative research - asking questions. The data collection technique was semi-structured interviews. The obtained data were analyzed by applying the pencil and paper method, open coding. Five categories and 14 subcategories have been created on the basis of the data analysis. Research group: The research group consisted of 10 nurses working in 4 selected home care agencies in the Region of South Bohemia. Results of the work: The results show the influence of the covid-19 pandemic on the work of nurses in home care agencies during the pandemic. Particularly affected were the organization of the work and home visits. The nurses provided nursing care to the clients in the same way as before the pandemic, with the only difference being they wore personal protective equipment. From their subjective point of view, the care provided was of as high a standard as before the pandemic. The nurses also faced several specific crisis situations. Use in practice: The results can be used by non-medical students as well as practitioners of the nursing profession.
Problematic of nursing care for the covid of a positive patient
MARKOVÁ, Monika
The Bachelor thesis deals with the problematic of nursing care for the covid positive pacient. Covid-19 is a highly infectious respiratory disease transferred from human-to-human by airborne droplets with SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus. The first symptoms may appear as a common cold in the form of coughs and runny nose. In case of dyspnea and difficulty with breathing, hospitalization is necessary. The aim of the bachelor thesis was to map the problems in the care of a covid-19 positive patient. The practical part was processed using qualitative research. The research group consisted of seven nurses who care for the covid-19 positive patients. Data were collected using a semi-structured interview. Questions were created for the nurses with focus on the chalanges that the nurses perceived in the area of biological, psychological and social needs of covid positive patients. Based on the conducted interviews and the collected data, the results were processed by open coding into seven categories. The results of the research survey found that the biggest obstacle in the care of a Covid positive patient is the lack of communication between staff and patients in the area of psychological needs. In the area of social needs, the need for social contact between positive patients and their loved ones and the complete lack of it is the biggest problem. Nursing care itself is very specific. Strict principles of barrier nursing care must be followed in covid-positive patient environment. According to the research results, in the area of biological needs, the respiratory care and the patient's airway care are the most crucial. According to the informants, it is possible to use positioning, where the patient changes his position at regular intervals and consequently relieves himself from shortness of breath. Based on these results is created seminar material for medical staff caring for patients with covid-19. The seminar is focused on caring for the needs of covid positive patinents.
Care of clients with Covid 19 in the home with a special regime
FILÍPKOVÁ, Kateřina
The bachelor thesis deals with an issue of providing care to Covid 19 clients in homes with special regime. The theoretical part of the thesis is focused on the Covid 19 disease. The main aim of the empiric part was to map the care of clients with Covid 19 in the home with a special regime in the period from the pandemic beginning up to the current situation. On the basis of this aim, a research question was set, what was the method of Covid 19 clients care in the home with a special regime in the period form the pandemic beginning up to the current situation. A qualitative research construct was selected for a data collection in a form of interviewing. The data collection was implemented by means of a half-structured interview that included 21 questions. The research group consisted of 7 female respondents from a group of nurses and 2 female respondents from a group of senior managers, who were selected by means of deliberate sampling. The criterion was a minimal length of 3 year of practical work in the institution. Based on the data analysis, 3 categories and 11 sub-categories were created through an open coding and pencil-and-paper method. It results from the research construct that the care was provided on the basis of official measures of the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, using barrier nursing techniques. The main distinction for the female respondents during the nursing were particularly fast changes of clients´ health and mental conditions. It was found out that there were various methods of clients´s isolation during the pandemic. The most frequently mentioned one was a Covid unit usage. The main principles of the care are isolation and PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) for the female respondents. An important part of the care was prevention by means of vaccination. The pandemic also influenced activation activities that are an integral part of the care in a home with specific regime. The obtained data reveal that it was a communication with the clients that was the most demanding part of the care. Also the sanitary care was qualified as equally demanding. The Covid-19 disease is relatively new and so it is no wonder that there appeared certain problematic areas during providing the care. Among these the female respondents placed the lack of information especially in the context with currency of the pandemic as well as the risks of contagion despite the PPE usage. The female respondents´ content with the care organisation results from the care evaluation itself. The important problem in the care was especially the lack of PPE and personnel for ensuring the care. The thesis may be used as a study material for non-doctoral medical studies.
