THE PREVENTION OF SPECIFIC DISORDERS OF LEARNING IN KINDERGARTEN
ZÁDILSKÁ, Jana
This work is focused to the specific learning disorders prevention, which should start as early as in a child's preschool age. Problems of a child with a specific learning disorder are not limited only to school lessons, however, they project to the whole social system, in which the child lives. To mitigate such problems, various stimulating programmes may assist that feature a preventive effect in the case of preschool children. The main objective of the thesis is to map a situation of a country kindergarten as related to the preparation of preschoolers to the performance of the compulsory school attendance. Thus the investigation sample consisted of preschool age children. For the investigation part I have selected the qualitative research method. The preparedness level of the preschool children for their successful school integration I investigated by means of the direct work method, in the form of a specific game applied to a sample of 27 children. As a research technique a questionnaire was selected, which was intended for the children's parents, as well as direct observation of work with the children, and a content analysis of adequate documents data. Having evaluated the obtained data, I was able to assess to what extent specialists from the kindergarten co-operate with parents, when preparing their children to a trouble-free integration to school, for how many children a possible disorder development may be expected, which would make their compulsory school attendance difficult, as well as to what extent the education level of parents is related to the preparation of a child for school. By my research I have thus investigated that the co-operation of parents and educators is on a quite well level in a country kindergarten. Nevertheless, the knowing of the parents on the means how to prepare a child well for its entry to school is insufficient in some cases. In the case of 10 children, development deficiencies may be expected, from which specific learning disorders may form after their entry to school. However, the specific learning disorders may be affected, to a varied extent and quality, by the background in which the child grows up. By my work I would like to contribute to project a solution that would enable to work, in a more systematic manner, with parents of the preschool children.
