Bachelor thesis describes the history and present census in selected countries. It consists of eight chapters, including introduction, conclusion and bibliographies. In the first, theoretical section describes the methods used and data collection in censuses. This is followed by insight into the historical development of censuses until now. Another chapter is crucial, since there is described the last census held in selected countries -- the U.S., France, Sweden, Israel, Russia, India, China, Japan, Australia, South Africa. In the penultimate chapter outlines the vision of possible developments in future censuses. The work is complemented by the trees of life of individual countries and a sample census forms. The attachment is accompanied by a selected chapter of the document ,,European Statisticians Recommendations for the Censuses of Population and Housing in 2010".
