Emplacement and fabric patterns of plutons in the eastern periphery of the Moldanubian Zone; implications for geodynamic evolution of the Bohemian Massif
Vondrovic, Lukáš
The Ph.D. thesis focuses on an analysis of the structural record and geochronology of selected calc-alkaline plutons emplaced in the rocks of the eastern periphery of the Moldanubian Zone (eastern margin of the Bohemian Massif). In addition, it includes an analysis of the tectonic and metamorphic record of the host rocks of the Polička and Zábřeh Units. The results revealed a number of important implications regarding the geodynamic evolution of the north- eastern part of the Bohemian Massif. The rocks of the Zábřeh Unit were metamorphosed under middle temperature and lower pressure conditions (T: 660 C, P: 0.6 Gpa). The structural record is defined by the superposition of regional steep E-W trending metamorphic fabric (S1) which was variably obliterated by means of intensive folding into S2 flat-lying foliation. This unit is in the northern part intruded by calc-alkaline rocks of the Zábřeh Intrusive Complex (354±4Ma, U/Pb on zircons) with calculated P-T crystallisation conditions of 706-795 řC and P: 0.3-0.4 Gpa. A contact metamorphic event took place within the host rocks in the proximity of the intrusion (T: 599-663 C, P: 0.4 Gpa). The internal fabric of the Zábřeh Intrusive Complex exhibits a magmatic to submagmatic gradient and the orientation of the intrusive contacts and magmatic...

Geological park of Charles University, Faculty of Science - web pages
Poláček, Boris ; Vondrovic, Lukáš (advisor) ; Trubač, Jakub (referee)
This bachelor's thesis is focused on the presentation of the Geological park of the Faculty of Science, Charles University in Prague. The ambition is to popularize significant architecture and evolution of the Bohemian massif. It consists of two different parts. The first is focused on general description of modern findings and opinions of regional zonality and petrological composition of the Bohemian massif. The second part is focused on the presentation of the Geological park and its brandnew website itself. This website has a clear goal to conduce to the popularization of the knowledge of geology of a significant part of our country as comprehensive as possible. Key words: geological park, Bohemian massif

Bukov PVP Underground Research Laboratory (Bukov URL) is designed to be a test site for the evaluation of properties and behavior of the rock mass which is of similar type as selected candidate sites in the Czech Republic. It is situated at a depth corresponding to the proposed storage depth of the final locality for the national deep repository of high-level radioactive waste. The Bukov URL, the construction of which has begun in 2013, is situated in the southern part of the Rožná uranium deposit, at the northeastern periphery of the Strážek Moldanubicum close to its contact with the Svratka Unit. The rock mass is composed of relatively monotonous rock sequences primarily of a volcanosedimentary origin. They are currently represented, due to the subsequent tectonometa-morphic development, by migmatized biotite paragneisses up to stromatitic and/or oftalmitic migmatites, amphibole-biotite to biotite-amphibole gneisses, and amphibolites. The workings of the Bukov URL are situated on the level 12 of the Bukov-1 shaft, at the depth of about 600 m below the earth’s surface. The Bukov URL is still under construction and the research works by the consortium of several organizations – ÚJV Řež, a.s., Czech Geological Survey, Institute of Geonics of the CAS, v.v.i., and Arcadis CZ, a.s. - are carried out simultaneously. The research activities focus on a complex geological and geotechnical characterization of the rock mass of interest, which is vital for the realization of further research in situ. This paper briefly describes the technical solution of the Bukov URL and the process of its construction.
