Muslims, Jews and Christians Asking God in Suffering

This master thesis deals with the question of suffering and evil posed by Muslim, Jewish and Christian believers. It gives a small glimpse into the richness of the Islamic, Jewish and Christian traditions concerning this topic. By concentrating on the work of six chosen authors it provides different examples of confronting the challenge of suffering in relation to God. In the introductory parts it gives an insight into the topic of theodicy and the views on suffering in the traditions of each religion. The works of the following writers or theologians are analysed more thoroughly: Al-Ghazali, Attar and Navid Kermani, Hans Jonas, Elie Wiesel, Jürgen Moltmann and Johann Baptist Metz.
