Samiecová, Alena
This thesis researched possible impacts on tourism industry after adopting Euro in Slovakia. Tourism indicators which the study was focused on are international tourism receipts and non-residential arrivals. Firstly, the general impacts of Euro adoption are discussed with focused on the whole industry. Secondly, general information about tourism in Slovakia is provided. The research was based on Synthetic Control Method, creating model of synthetic Slovakia that never adopted Euro in 2009. The differences between real Slovakia and synthetic Slovakia are described and discussed. On one hand the non-residential arrivals have fallen significantly in comparison to synthetic model. On the other tourism receipts remained almost the same. The changes in economic structure of tourists are probable explanation of the differences. Proposed suggestions for countries which are likely to adopt Euro in the future are made in the end.
