Development of Prague's Housing Estates: Ageing and Functional Use

There lives currently one third of population in the post-socialist housing estates in the Czech Republic. Because of many problems that accompany the estates, many scientific studies deal with the topic. In my study, I focus on analysis of the age structure changes in Prague housing estates and investigate whether it corresponds to the level of the functional use. The analytical part is divided into two sections. The first one is the analysis of the age structure based on the statistical data. The second section is an assessment of the level of the use in Prague housing estates through a questionnaire survey in a selected estate. In principle, it was confirmed that the Prague housing estates really have been aging and this trend affects to some extent functional use of the locality. It is important to solve the needs of estates individually so that the changes were effective. Based on the analysis the conclusion is that the Prague housing estates have good prospects for the future. Key words: Prague; housing estates; ageing; functional use

Logics transforming the urban waterfront in Bratislava unravelling the decision-making dynamics behind urban development

Extended Abstract This thesis addresses the globalizing urban waterfront in Bratislava. It aims to unravel the key logics driving the decision-making processes behind waterfront re- development in the Slovak capital. I investigate the infiltration of the capitalist logics into a transforming institutional environment unfolding from the post-socialist transition. This is being done through a distinction between the capitalist and the territorial logics of power (Jessop, 1999; Harvey, 2005). Across the globe, waterfront re-development has become the urban response to inner-city decline, and the increasing inter-urban competitiveness in today's neoliberal capitalism. The origins of waterfront transformations are here framed as an urban manifestation of geographically uneven logics of capital put into motion by the crisis of Atlantic Fordism (Smith, 1990; Jessop, 2000). The capital switching into the build-up environment (Harvey, 1978; 2005), is temporarily fixed on urban waterfronts through decisions made on multiple scales (Brenner, 2001). Recreational Houses in Czechia and Slovakia

Recreational apartment houses in Czechia and Slovakia One of the new trends in an area of the second homes is a construction of the recreational apartment houses in the attractive locations. This phenomenon experienced its boom in the beginning of the 21st century. The goal of this bachelor's thesis is to analyze the temporary (2013) localization of the recreational apartment houses, development of the market in this area, the influence by the world economic crisis (2008) and the consequences of this type of living at the villages and towns touched by this phenomenon in Czechia. This bachelor's thesis is also trying to verify the hypothesis that this trend has slowed down or even has stopped and also is trying to outline the future of the next development of this phenomenon. The part of this thesis is devoted to this phenomenom in Slovakia and the subsequent comparation with the situation in Czechia.
