Environmental Justice - links between air pollution and selected social characteristics of the czech population
Linhartová, Martina ; Braniš, Martin (advisor) ; Kryl, Martin (referee)
The present bachelor thesis deals with socioenvironmental problems. The first part involves review of literature, the second part is devoted to a pilot study covering the territory of the Czech Republic. Many studies pointed out uneven distribution of pollution among minorities, people with lower education and other socially disadvantaged individuals. The lower the social status, the worse the air quality and the higher risk of the threat from exposure to airborne pollutants. We analyzed association between various air quality factors and indicators of socio-economic status of the population from Czech cities. Our results correspond to those obtained from USA, Germany, New Zealand etc.: pollutants to which people are exposed to vary by level of social status. People with lower degree of education have to bear higher concentration of SO2 and PM10 - higher concentrations of combustion by- products. Contrary to that, people with higher degree of education and higher income are more likely exposed to pollutants from transport (namely NO2). Key words: environmental justice, air quality, Czech Republic
Environmental justice in the Czech Republic
Linhartová, Martina ; Braniš, Martin (advisor) ; Kryl, Martin (referee)
The present diploma thesis deals with an important and interesting socioenvironmental issue called environmental justice or environmental equity. This issue has been widely studied in the USA and other economically developed countries, but seldom in postcommunist countries in transition. Many studies pointed out uneven distribution of pollution among people with different social status. In this diploma thesis, the relationship between concentrations of three main air-pollutants (NO2, SO2, PM10) and thirteen social, safety and health variables in selected towns in the Czech Republic is described. Factor and cluster analyses were used as the main statistical tools. The results of correlation and factor analysis show, that high concentrations of pollutants from transport (represented by NO2 levels) are typical for citizens with high salary, higher degree of education and for individuals living in big towns. On the other hand, towns with higher concentrations of solid fuels combustion by-products (SO2, PM10) are inhabited by people with lower degree of education and low salary. These towns have usually high emigration rate and high unemployment. The cluster analysis points out, that high traffic-related pollutant concentrations are characteristic mainly for regional centres, in contrary, high levels of...

Attitudes of Students towards Lecturers of the South Bohemia University.
LINHARTOVÁ, Martina
This diploma thesis provides information how students of chosen faculties of the University of South Bohemia evaluate their teachers, what attitudes they have developed to them, what is particularly important for them and which requirements they impose on the teachers. The theoretical part deals with attitudes, teaching, personalities of a teacher and a student, a current tertiary education in the Czech Republic and mutual relations of students and educators. The empirical part presents a quantitative research that I realized through a semantic differential. Here I describe characteristics of the population and the research sample. Furthermore, I bring results of obtained data and information about students´ attitudes to their teachers. The data collection took place in March 2012 in a form of questionnaires. The research was conducted at the University of South Bohemia, Pedagogical, Health Social and Theological Faculties. Fields of study of similar focus were chosen within each of given faculties. In total 240 questionnaires were distributed. The return was 75%, thus altogether 180 questionnaires. Three hypotheses were defined for the research. The first hypothesis assumed that the preferred field of study positively influenced students´ attitudes to their teachers and the conducted research confirmed this hypothesis. The second hypothesis stated the students studying a prestigious field of study evaluated their teachers more positively than students studying a not prestigious field of study. This hypothesis was not confirmed. The third hypothesis was that women-students were less critical in the evaluation of teachers than men-students. The carried out research did not confirm nor this hypothesis. The thesis can be used to compare attitudes of women-students and men-students from individual faculties of the University of South Bohemia and for publishing activities.
A development and trends of crime committed by Czech Police staff.
LINHARTOVÁ, Martina
The crime committed by policemen is a topic which in recent years starts to be highlighted especially thanks to media scandals. Media show only one side of the thing, namely, what crime was committed. The second often much more serious side, concerns above all the fact, why policemen commit the crime, why people who should protect the law, break it. I consider this issue to be an up-to-date, serious and interesting topic, and that is why I chose it for my bachelor thesis. The theoretical part of the thesis was focused on Police tasks, on possible reasons for committing the crime and its causes, then who solves the problems and last, but not least, the thesis deals with a particular analysis of that crime. The goal of the thesis is to inform about the issues and to show, that there exists a very serious problem which should not remain on the sidelines, because mainly citizens´ safety is in question. The research method was based on interviews with the staff of Police Inspection, from those I subsequently created case studies, concerning various types of policemen crime cases. Because of the Privacy policy, it was necessary to respect guidelines for an implementation of case studies. Two research questions were set for the practical part. The first one solves, whether the crimes are being committed especially by younger policemen, who, for the lack of experience and a lower salary could commit the crimes. The second question was to find out, in which section of the Police service comes about the commitment of the most of crimes. The thesis can be used as a source of comprehensive information for students or people dealing with those issues. It can also be used as an inspiration for another research.
