Role of UNHCR in case of asylum seekers, refugees and stateless persons – the case study of Turkey

Inspired by the Kratochvíl, Cibulková and Beník´s model of actorness, the thesis explores the framing power of UNHCR. The critical discourse analysis introduced by Norman Fairclough is applied in order to analyze the textual, contextual and sociocultural dimension of the UNHCR framing power. The case of Turkey was chosen for this study due to the current situation and the fact that Turkey is one of the biggest hosting country in the refugees´ crisis. Through the critical discourse analysis, the thesis explores whether UNHCR is considered as a framing actor in the case of asylum seekers, refugees and stateless people in Turkey. The analysis shows that UNHCR is globally respected and takes important part in the issue. However, not all of the international organizations refer to UNHCR as the lawmaker and the initiator of debates in the issues mentioned above.
The United Nations and violence against women

The aim of the bachelor´s thesis is a characteristic of the issue of violence against women from the UN perspective. The first part of thesis deals with the general characteristics of the problem. It describes the causes, consequences, documents, organizations and the UN strategies on violence against women. In the second part of thesis, there can be found the analysis of a selected type of violence against women within the family. It is the honour crimes. The third chapter is devoted to another type of violence known as the crime committed within the society and that is the violence against women during the armed conflicts. The last chapter evaluates the UN policy on violence against women. It analyzes the methods and strategies of the UN and summarizes the most important strengths and weaknesses of the UN's work. In conclusion, the author of the thesis adds her recommendations and suggestions for improving the efficiency of work of the UN in combating violence against women.
The European Union as an international actor in global environmental politics

The bachelor thesis deals with the role of the European Union at the Conference of Parties in Paris (COP21) and in general with their attitude to form international politics in the field of climate change. The thesis is divided into three chapters, one of which provides a theoretical background from Petr Kratochvíl and col. and a brief historical progress in the climate change politics of the EU. The second chapter points at the Conference of Parties (COP) and the following with an analytical part of thesis where the analysis information and the particular political steps will be applied to four selected dimensions from the theoretical basis - framing, internal legitimacy, external recognition and attractiveness.
Europeanisation of Nuclear Policy

Bachelor thesis deals with Europeanization of EU Member States in the field of nuclear policy. The aim of this work is to analyse the impact of Europeanisation through detailed analysis of the legal norms and laws approved by the Council and the European Parliament and further analysis of legal norms and the laws of a selected member country in the field of nuclear policy. For the purpose of this work and in-depth analysis the case study was based on the example of the Slovak Republic. Bachelor thesis confirms the hypothesis that despite the inclusion of nuclear energy policy (as part of energy policy) among the European Union's policies of shared competence, the European Union broadly restricts the autonomy of Member States in their own nuclear policy-making.
Swiss migration policy and its impact on the inflow of German labor force

Unique combination of economic and social stability has been attracting foreigners from all over the world to live in Switzerland for years. It was mainly foreign labor force that helped the domestic economy grow and once a land of emigration, Switzerland now has one of the highest rates of alien citizens. The paper discusses how Switzerland regulated the inflow of foreign workers through its migration policy and what consequences it carried concerning the inflow of labor migration from neighbouring countries, especially from Germany. The author analyses the migration policy, the structure of german immigrants in Switzerland and mainly how it evolved after signing the Free movement of persons with European Union.
Germany's EU policy

The bachelor thesis deals with Germany's EU-policy focusing on the current Cabinet led by Angela Merkel. The determinants of the German EU-policy, in particular the historical role of the Federal Republic of Germany in the European integration process, the position and representation of Germany in the institutions of the EU and the institutional architecture of the EU-agenda in Germany, are briefly mentioned. Moreover, research is done on the general features of the current EU-policy, its legitimacy and three selected current topics -- the German policy in crisis, the German role in the current EU-multiannual financial framework negotiations and the German energy policy towards the EU.
European Neighbourhood Policy towards Tunisia

The bachelor thesis deals with the topic of the European neighbourhood policy towards Tunisia, with main focus on the impact of the European Neighbourhood Policy before 2011. The first part concentrates on the European Neighbourhood Policy in general. It analyses reasons of its emergence as well as mechanisms of its operations and funding. The second part researches the relationship of the EU and Tunisia, with particular attention to the European Neighbourhood Policy. It evaluates the impact of the cooperation on Tunisia and examines the changes of the policy that happened after the Tunisian Revolution and the Arab spring.
Economic potential of Antarctica and its exploitation according to the present international law

Antarctica up to this day the last fully economically unexploited continent. But, its potential exploitation must be supported by legislation. This thesis focuses on finding possibilities for future evolution of the legal platform of economic exploitation of Antarctica. The first part analyzes the potential of natural wealth and the situation of the main actors of the present system. In the second part, the findings from the analysis are applied on the present legal regime, to produce recommendations for the future.
Priorities of Czech Council of EU Presidency: Case study

In the 21st century the significance of the EU energy agenda has been growing constantly. The European Union tried to overcome energy crises actively by creating European Security Strategy. The energy agenda has two major parts -- energy security and climate protection. The 2009 Czech EU presidency chose as one of its priorities energy policy. In particular, it promoted support of nuclear energy, deepening of the European neighbourhood policy by creating its own project Eastern Partnership and developed a discussion about Southern Corridor and its main project gas pipeline Nabucco. The aim of this thesis is to show, whether the Czech presidency was pursuing its own national interests by promoting energy policy, or the interests of the whole Union. The structure of this thesis consists of three parts. In the first one, the Council of European Union is described, as well as its functions, possibilities of agenda setting and its evaluation. In the second part, the European energy policy is specified together with the influencing factors for choosing energy policy as one of the Czech priorities. In the last chapter, functions of the Czech presidency are examined and the presidency is evaluated according to criteria mentioned in the first chapter.
Norway and the European integration process

The aim of this Bachelor thesis is the characteristics of Norway in the European integration process and examination of the Norwegian reasons not to join the European Union and Norway public euroscepticism. The thesis answers to basic questions such as what the European integration process is, what role the Kingdom of Norway played in this process, what are the main, but also ancillary reasons for rejection in referendums. It analyses what would eventual EU membership brought Norway and brings the result that Norway will not join the EU in the foreseeable future because of its strong economic, security and political arguments.
