The midwife's role in the sex education of the basic school pupils
KADLECOVÁ, Zdeňka
The midwie?ves role in the sex education of the elementary school pupils Sex education should be, in the first place, a matter of parenting or family education, yet it should be a natural part of school education. At present, sex education is part of the elementary school curriculum and its classes are based on verbal/visual concept, which includes all drawbacks of our system of education. Despite being trained and schooled at universities, future teachers have no possibility to become familiar with the issues relating to sex education due to their study programmes. One of the crucial problems that prevents smooth implementation of sex education at elementary schools is teachers? incompetence in this specific area. The author sees a possible solution in collaboration between teachers and medical staff (midwives, doctors) when providing sex education of pupils. The objective of the thesis at hand was to observe sex education awareness among elementary school pupils, their interest in sex education as a part of elementary school curriculum, and to identify whether there is an interest of the school management in hiring a midwife to tutor the sex education classes. To meet the objective, a quantitative research combined with a qualitative one was selected. The research was carried out at elementary schools in České Budějovice and the research corpus, which was created for the purposes of the quantitative research, comprised of elementary school pupils. The qualitative research was based on a selection of teachers teaching at the schools. There were established two hypotheses and one research question. Hypothesis 1 implied that pupils lack awareness of modes of transmission of sexually transmitted diseases. This hypothesis has not been confirmed. Most of the pupils were aware of ways of sexual diseases transmission. Hypothesis 2 implied that pupils are interested in sex education as a part of elementary school curriculum. This hypothesis has been confirmed. The pupils responded that they would welcome more time spent on sex education; they want to retrieve the information mainly from their teachers and parents. While doing the research, the author learned that there was an interest in hiring a midwife to tutor the sex education classes. Two schools already had midwives to teach the classes; two other schools were discussing the possibility of inviting a midwife; and one school showed no interest in the matter. This answered the research question whether schools perceive midwives to be competent persons to tutor sex education classes. The author would welcome if the outcomes of the thesis helped improve the quality of sex education at elementary schools and introduce experts, doctors and midwives to tutor such classes.
Long-term Electric Power Failure in the Czech Republic
KADLECOVÁ, Zdeňka
The electric power is one of the key products without which functioning of our society would be hard to imagine. The electricity distribution network is an interconnected system comprising of a manufacturing part producing electricity from various sources, a transmission system of conductors and equipment, distribution systems of high and low voltage, and of technical control stations suitably distributed to control the whole network. Energy security means ensuring continuity of necessary supplies of energy and energy services to accommodate the protected interests of the state. A long-term electric power failure may have serious consequences for the state security, for providing for basic subsistence needs of the population, individual?s health or the state economy. For their maintenance under ordinary as well as emergency conditions it is particularly necessary to ensure functioning of critical infrastructure. The aim of this thesis is to examine the level of preparedness of the subjects within the critical infrastructure for a long-term interruption of electric power supplies and to create a draft of an emergency preparedness plan of a subject within the critical infrastructure focused on a long-term electric power failure. The research part of the thesis has two parts. The first part includes processing and analysis of the data acquired though a questionnaire survey. The second one presents a draft of the emergency preparedness plan of a subject within the critical infrastructure. The results of the questionnaire survey showed a good readiness of the critical infrastructure for a long-term, extensive electric power failure, which confirms the set hypothesis. The thesis introduces the public, particularly the subjects of the critical infrastructure, to the possibilities of occurrence of long-term, extensive electric power failures, with available prevention of such emergency situations and their preparation, planning and solving. The presented emergency plan draft should help with preparation of an emergency readiness plan of a subject within the critical infrastructure, including outlining the ways to solve emergency situations that may arise in relation with a power failure, and thus to improve protection of the critical infrastructure elements.
Relation between the level of Radon in the underlay and in structures in Central Bohemia
KADLECOVÁ, Zdeňka
Radon is a natural radioactive gas originating from a radioactive transformation of uranium. It penetrates the Earths surface from the geologic subsoil and cumulates in buildings where it can reach hich concentrations. Building material is also a radon source in resident premises. Water is another radon source. It isimportant to realize that the building materials of a natural origin as well as water supplied to the houses also gain a higher volume radon activity from the geologic subsoil. Hence my thesis particularly focuses on the building subsoil. My thesis that the beologic subsoil isa significant radon source affecting the radon volume activity in the objects, however, a high radon index of the eoloic subsoil does not necessarily mean that a high radon volume activity values will be measured in the building situated on the subsoil. It very much depends on the technical condition of the object and the way of its ue.
