Plovdiv in history and legends

This thesis is focused on Plovdiv, the second largest city in Bulgaria. The city has a wide range of monuments and a colorful history. It developed under various influences, so I will present a brief picture of it in history from the period of the Thracians to the Ottoman rule, and it's folk literature. We will look at some folklore terms and their definitions. Finally, I will present specific examples of folk literature from Plovdiv that I managed to collect, and in the end they will be evaluated to see if they have a connection with the historical context.
